As previously reported, Konami are releasing a Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection compilation for the PlayStation 3. This will contain the following Metal Gear games:

  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition
  • MGS3 includes MSX versions of Metal Gear 1 and 2
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid IV: Trophy Edition

In addition to the aforementioned games, the compilation will also include two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels and a 100-page art book containing marketing art for the series.

This morning, Konami announced an American release date for the compilation—July 9th for $50. Japan gets the game on July 11th. A European release date hasn’t been announced yet.

    Awesome

  • Haku_Luvs_You

50 bucks, that’s a great price. Will buy I love these games.

  • KuchikiSentou

The art book clinched it. Shinkawa-dono forever.

  • PersonaSpace

Only $50? I suck at Metal Gear but I’m sold on this set.

  • Solomon_Kano

I bought the HD collection, but I never got around to owning a copy of MGS1 or 4 and I always wanted to peep the graphics novels (dat Wood). Couple that with some Shinkawa art? Yea, I’ll plunk down $50 for this, Kojima.

    • neocatzon

Same here, thinking about getting this one especially for the graphic novels. They are really hard to find..

  • Andrew Atkinson

Wait, from the look of the labels on the disc’s, MGS1 and VR Missions are downloads. But VR Missions isn’t available on PSN. Is it getting a separate release? Also, is it digital graphics novels or is that what’s in the included book? Are the digital graphic novels for the PSP/Vita or PS3 or what?

    • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I’m guessing they’ll be putting VR Missions on the US PSN in time for this release. I believe it’s already on the JP store.

Yea, they’re digital graphic novels, the art book is something else entirely. The GNs are on the disc, so you’ll be viewing them on your PS3.

  • Anime10121

Wants for the art book, but I’ll have to see what my cash is looking like around then, I want it now exclusively for the art book (as I already own most of the games in this collection on multiple formats), and hate that I didnt get the Limited HD collection because the art book there was twice as big!

Hmm, money, or DAT GLORIOUS MG ART?!?

    • Dhruv Rajyagor

I’d go w/ the GLORIOUS MG ART :D

  • TiredOfMyOldUsername

Well i guess it’s time for me to finally try this series.

    • Haku_Luvs_You

      :O you’ve never played this series? They’re great, I’m sure you’ll love them :D

  • Tom

Will contain what!? Metal Gear Solid IV??? There was never a Metal Gear game that had roman numbers.

    • Solomon_Kano

      MGSV :V

      • Tom

Okay, you won this time. But MGSV is not out yet and definitely not part of this collection.

      • Utku Savaş

He meant that MGS4 was in arabic numerals, not roman. And you can clearly see on the second disc, the “4″ is still in the title not “IV”. I don’t understand why Siliconera editors insist to write it as MGSIV.

        • Solomon_Kano

I know what he meant, hence the :V

  • Ceci “Ruzuzu” Kiyomizu

Do you hear that wallet? It’s metal gear time.

    • Testsubject909

      Wallet: !

  • laurenhiya21

Nice! I only have the 2 remakes on Twin Snakes, so this will be a really good chance for me to try out the rest of them.

  • Neppygear

    $50 what huh how???? That’s awfully generous…

    • Testsubject909

      And a 100 page artbook.

  • Final Aura

Does anybody know if this will have dualaudio?

    • Solomon_Kano

None of the MGS games have ever had dual audio.

      • Firekitty

Doesn’t mean we can’t hope. And a big collection like this would be the place to implement it.

No offense to the awesome English voices, but the Japanese cast has some big names too, and it would be awesome to have both.

        • Solomon_Kano

If anything, I would say this being a collection of the old games would be exactly why they wouldn’t add dual audio. These are the games as they were released, just all put together. No more, no less. The HD collection didn’t add dual audio, so they weren’t going to add it for what essentially amounts to a bundle.

You can hope for MGSV having dual audio, certainly, but I see no reason why they’d do the work of adding it in for every game in a re-release of 6 games that didn’t have it (not counting the 2 games with no voices at all, of course).

  • Zonic505

Wow, this is seriously a great way for me to finally try out the series, especially with the $50 and artbook.

  • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

Wish I had sold the HD collection a few months ago. It ain’t worth nothing now.

  • Darthgundam

    Purchased as fuck.

  • Vesperion

50 BUCKS??? that’s it? I was at least expecting $70-$80. This is the ultimate deal for all Metal Gear fans

    • Testsubject909

      Yup…

      *brings out credit card*

      Hard to say no…

    • Hunter Von-Lashher

for anyone really even those who never touch a MG game or knows who snake is this number of games with art book and the novels for 50 bucks is unmissible

  • James Darkly

will american release have Japanese (in options) audio???

This is perfect for me. I mean, sure, I have the PS2 collection already, but I plan on getting a PS3 during the next Black Friday so, yeah. Now I’ll have everything but Rising. :P

    • Never

      Me too.
Why even get a PS4 when the PS3′s going to still be getting good titles and has plenty still to play.
By the time I’m through with all the games the PS3 has to offer that I want to play the PS4 will have dropped in price.
      Win win.

      • http://twitter.com/FrogNinjazord Yᴏsʜɪʏᴀ

I thought I was the only one that thought this way! :D Awesome! The only down side is that everyone has played everything by the time we hop on it and there likely won’t be too many people online, but whatever. I’d say PS3 still has a solid 2 – 3 years left anyways. This is the perfect time to jump on.

Was just thinking that I wouldn’t mind learning a bit more about the MGS universe after finishing Rising and here it is on a platter, nice.

There appears to be conflicting dates on the release date here.
It sucks that it’s US only and Canada isn’t getting it(sarcasm)
