While Sega are releasing their Virtual Console Game Gear titles in North America, they have yet to bring over any of their 3D Classics games that have been released in Japan, such as Space Harrier and Super Hang-On.

I know it’s actually a Master System game, but I hope the original Phantasy Star makes it onto the 3DS VC as well.

This is the greatest news ever :D

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Why don’t they emulate consoles on the 3ds? Doesn’t make sense to me.

      • AJ

I think the philosophy is that a console game is designed to be played with more attention, and that playing it on a portable device in bursts defies the intention of the creator.

        • Manny Being Manny

While thats nice and dandy, what if people want console games on their 3DS? Thats one of the main reasons I prefer Vita.. its like a console in my hands.

          • Guest

Ever heard of Street Fighter 4, Tales of Abyss, or Metal Gear Solid 3? Yeah, they’re console games. Hell, Resident Evil: Revelations which is originally on the 3DS is being ported to the consoles.

          • brian

            Derpqus ruin that comment?

          • PreyMantis

        • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Tell that to all the old console games we’re seeing ported to DS, 3DS and Vita. Soul Hackers, Persona 4, Chrono Trigger.

      • PreyMantis

Why release an emulator when you can just release the games as “virtual consoles?” It makes more sense and faster to release them as virtual consoles than releasing an emulator just to open the games. It also makes sense to release them like this to prevent distribution of the games.

        • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

That’s not what I meant–I meant why aren’t they releasing console games on the 3ds virtual console?

          • PreyMantis

What are you talkig about? The system has games that were originally on or will be coming to home consoles. Prove me wrong by explaining to me how Tales of Abbyss, Street Fighter 4, Monster Hunter 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil: Revelations that is being ported to the home consoles, and all the NES and SNES games on the virtual console. Give it up, the 3DS has home console games whether you like it or not.

          • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

What on earth are *you* talking about? you can’t play SNES games on the 3DS virtual console. all i was saying was it would be great if you could.

tales of the abyss etc are not ‘virtual console’ games, they’re ports. try reading my message before attacking me for no reason?

for the record, i love my 3ds, but it would be neat to get earthbound on it instead of exclusively to the wii-u

          • PreyMantis

I don’t have a 3DS right now, so I don’t know if it really does or doesn’t have SNES games, but upon researching, you might be right that the system does not have any SNES games. ToA not being a virtual console game is indeed true; however, you’re still wrong on the assumption that the 3DS has no games that are also on home consoles. Ok, look, that’s not what I meant at all. I have a 3DS. I love my 3DS. My favorite 3DS games? The ports of Soul Hackers and Tales of the Abyss. All I was contesting was the fact that the Virtual Console for Wii and 3DS are mutually exclusive–a fact I find absurd.

Wii = SNES, NES, TG-16, Genesis, Neo Geo
3DS = Game Gear, Game Boy, Game Boy Color.

All I said was that it would be nice if the 3DS virtual console, that is, the VIRTUAL CONSOLE, could play the same retro-console games that the Wii does.

PS, see my message below this one in response to AJ. Quite similar to the comment you made.

So calm down the fanboyism regarding a device you don’t even have, chief.

          • PreyMantis

Whoa! Calm your tits there, buddy. If you only said this earlier instead of making yourself look like a fanboy, we wouldn’t have this problem. Thank you for making that much clearer to my slow mind, though.

  • Manny Being Manny

Oh wow. Shining Force 2 is my favorite game and I never got to play this GG game. Thats an instant buy.

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

FYI It’s not related to Shining Force 2. It’s a sequel to Shining Force Gaiden. The two games were released together as Shining Force CD for Sega CD.

      • Fairlee

That’s explain how the graphic looks different from Shining Force II’s

        • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I believe it actually pre-dates Shining Force 2 by a few months.

  • Aristides

GG FTW! This brings back memories :P

  • Just Tim

So, how about the currently Japan-only chapters of Shining Force 3?

    • brian

      Yeah, this, a billion times.

    • Fairlee

      … I LOVE YOUR IDEA!
      I will definitely buy this.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Ohh. Being a huge Sega Game Gear fans, i love more of GG game here.^_^
    Especially with that Collumns.O_o

    • AJ

My mother must have spent 900$ on batteries from me playing the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers game. Man, that was awesome.

  • Romored

Now make a new Shining game for 3DS, Sega! Nintendo loves you, so give them the best you can do.

  • Zeik56

I love me some Shining Force, but I don’t see myself buying this when Shining Force CD is a much better version of it.
