Namco Bandai have shared two new gameplay videos for Tales of Xillia, featuring Leia and Rowen in battles. Leia is Jude’s childhood friend and is training to be a nurse at his family’s clinic. Meanwhile, Rowen is a butler of the Schall family.

Tales of Xillia will be released on August 6th in North America and August 9th in Europe.

This game actually looks awesome. Can’t wait till August 9th.
I just hope nobody starts complaining about voices (though I doubt that’s not possible). I’m getting sick of those complaints as it is.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Let’s not encourage language fights from either side. That you are excited and ready for August 9th tells the world everything.

      • Sentsuizan_93

        Don’t worry. I won’t. At least, I hope it won’t happen….

        • AnimusVox

          They’re coming! D:
I’m kidding, I’m just glad we’re getting this.
          Ugh hurry up August.

          • Crimson_Cloud

            Same here. No arguments there.

    • Firekitty

I’m pretty sure that all the complaints have been made by this point, and those who are buying it anyway and those who are passing on yet another Tales localization have gone their separate ways.

Bringing it up again just makes you look foolish, or as if you’re trying to start something.

  • Spirit Macardi

Holy crap, just realized Rowen is played by none other than Todd Haberkorn :D

This won’t be the first time he’s voiced a badass magic user.

    • Revorse

Is it really? I’ve never heard him play anyone old before. Hard for me to tell.

      • Spirit Macardi

You can tell far better when he shouts his attacks, since he goes into his Natsu/Ling Yao voice for them.

  • WOW! I was expecting Leia to be more of a mage than Rowen!!! XD Thanks for breaking the usual character archetypes! >.<

Its also pretty cool that jude isnt a swordsman, like the mains usually are.

    • Zal_Yagun

With the staff I also thought she was a mage or a support as well, but seeing the staff as the “Bo” variety can’t help but think of Judith (I know that hers spear, but rpgs don’t care)

      • Draparde

she has some healing if i’m not mistaken, so probably comparable to Sophie in that regard.

She can do aerial combos like Judith though~

of course i’ve only played for like…an hour or so, in Japanese at a random part in the game….years ago. I could be somewhat wrong :x

        • Wappuli

Pretty much everyone in both Xillias has some type of heal, but Leia and Elise are your primary healers.
Yea, she’s like Sophie or Farah and actually has a Farah dlc-costume.

          • Radiosity

Leia is massively fun to use, aerial combos are where it’s at for her. Linking her with Jude is great fun too, they can batter the crap out of anything with minimal fuss :)
It’s mildly annoying that her link skill is steal because that means if you want to use it you can’t control her, but other than that she was my main control character for the entire game on both playthroughs.

          • Wappuli

I mained her too and I was really annoyed that steal was link skill instead of an arte, but atleast changing character in battle is really fast in this game.

          • Radiosity

Yeah, fast character switching is really nice, as is being able to switch links on the fly, doing that during overlimits for additional chains is great (though I freely admit to not always being able to pull that off due to fumbling the buttons lol).

  • Asaoko

Leia’s pose is so cool. I’ve always wanted to do that…!!! Oh God, may a miracle happen so that the release date is actually earlier than August…!!! <333

  • Nightmesh

Wish they’d mute the sound effects and voices of the other characters when they do these. So hard to hear anyone in all the chaos.

  • Zal_Yagun

Whats your defensive options in this one? I liked how Graces’ side step added a fighting game depth to the combat. I really cant tell with this one

    • Demeanor

Mmm you can guard, backstep, jump, the standard stuff, and I seem to recall it’s possible to sidestep and circle the enemy too, but it’s not as flawless as in Graces. Jude has a unique skill that allows him to instantly warp behind enemies when he dodges an attack; last but not least, you might want to consider strategically switching links since they provide nifty passive bonuses, like a link with Rowen provides better defensive options when being attacked by spells.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

“Not bad for an old man” more like ” I’m one hell of a butler”

    • Steven Lamphere

Not gonna lie, I couldn’t stop laughing for around 10 minutes after reading this

    • AnimusVox

  • Randy Marsh

Staff Rain and Staff Rain: Alpha, GENIUS!

    • HerosLight

Nothing beats Mimi Baker’s Bread Rain and Bread Rain: Alpha!

  • Learii

Leia’s fighting style and her combos look nice

  • Demeanor

    “Elements Four!!!” XD

  • Muffum

    Hi, Michelle Ruff.

  • hawk222

Heh, at first I thought Leia had said “Ready, dude?”

  • Nice to see promos for it ^ω^Super excited for the game~

Side note… I am loving using my phone to make emojis ( +_+)

  • harmonyworld

Can I just have this game already pls!?

  • HerosLight

I actually did not know Leia was a pole/staff user.

And most of the times in RPGs, Pole/staff users are badass. I will definitely use Leia.

    • Radiosity

She is. Definitely. All the characters are fun to use in their own ways and Jude in particular is very satisfying due to his combat style, but the clear winner for fun is Leia, hands down.

  • Draparde

The moment i saw her art from years back, i knew Leia would be my main <3.

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Interesting, one of the related videos mentions a Skit Contest.

Says head to the Tales Face book page to enter.

  • Space_Ghost

    I’m digging that music!

    • AnimusVox

Oh man, I loved Space Ghost. <3

  • AnimusVox

Lol wow Leia is pretty badass.

  • JustThisOne

I’m going to be a jerk and play Rowen like a melee. :3

  • Niermyico

    Rowen sounds like Vegeta.

    • Spirit Macardi

      Actually it’s Android 19.

  • CirnoLakes

Leia is fascinating. She’s my second favourite character in Tales of Xillia.

She has this fun, energetic sort of personality that kind of reminds me just a tiny little bit of the role Pascal served in Tales of Graces. And that’s a good thing.

    • AnimusVox

I loved Pascal. To me she and Malik were the only characters I liked. Sophie wasn’t bad either.

    • Radiosity

Agreed, though I very much disliked the forced empathy/sympathy during certain scenes (obviously spoilers but if you’ve played you’ll likely get what I mean) involving certain non-party characters. I love her voice and with the bikini costume’s delicious ponytail (brunette ponytail is my favourite) she was an instant favourite even without taking into account her wonderful personality.

  • WhyWai

cant wait. this will be my 1st Tales of game. Hope the Vita ones will eventually get translated? prefer to play jrpg on handheld

    • Radiosity

You’re starting with a good one then, Xillia is my third favourite Tales game after Symphonia and Vesperia. I’m… not honestly thinking the remakes will be localised, Vita isn’t selling well enough for them to even bother. They could surprise though, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up :(

  • Nitraion

Leia battle style remind me of suikoden MC….
And what she a Nurse in training? O_o
Medical students and nurse in Xillia world can’t be taken lightly….
Badass butler Rowen yeah of course..
