Sonic Lost World To Feature Multiplayer Modes On Wii U And 3DS

By Ishaan . May 29, 2013 . 9:00am

Nintendo and Sega have released the first details of Sonic Lost World for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Here’s the game’s story summary:

Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of six menacing creatures known as the Deadly Six, but when the Deadly Six rise up against their master, Sonic has to unite with his arch nemesis in order to take on the new enemies head-to-head.  Using his dynamic new parkour moves and improved Colour Powers, Sonic must run, jump and race through a variety of ever changing terrains in order to defeat the Deadly Six.

Sonic Lost World will have both single-player as well as competitive multiplayer modes on both the Wii U and 3DS. Additionally, both platforms will have their own specific features in the game as well.

On the Wii U, Colour Powers can be controlled using the Wii U GamePad, by touching, tilting and aiming. The Wii U version of the game will also support off-TV play and a 2-player “support mode”.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will be the first Sonic game to feature “fully realized” 3D stages, including Special Stages and Colour Powers unique to them.

Sonic Lost World will be available later this year. Find screenshots below.

    color me excited

  • CobbleCake

    …is there a seventh?

“Sonic has to unite with his arch nemesis in order to take on the new enemies head-to-head.”

Call me skeptical, but I have the feeling Eggman may have ulterior motives x3

  • Anime10121

After seeing the screens, DEFINITELY going with the Wii U version, the 3DS one looks like a watered down version instead of a unique redo like Colors and Generations were.

Also, seems strange to me that the boss count is deadly six instead of seven. Things Sonic usually come in 7’s or 3’s, so I can guarantee one more “deadly critter” or boss outta the blue (more than likely Robotnik or Metal Sonic).

    • Wait what

If by unique redo you mean “Inferior versions of Sonic Rush (inferior to both Sonic Rush and the console versions)”, yeah. I, for one, am glad that this seems like it’s trying to actually be a portable version of the console game. The 3DS is more than capable of producing good 3D gameplay and there’s no reason why we can’t have a good 3D Sonic game on the handhelds too.

      • Anime10121

Even so, I liked the different take they expressed in the handheld versions. While I always anticipate the console versions more, the handheld games gave me more Sonic, with different gameplay methods. And I dunno about you, but I thought the 3DS Generations was pretty good, MUCH better controls than Sonic 4, and less scripted controls than the console Generations (though I still liked the console Generations more).

the deadly six? Well there’s 7 deadly sins (I’m a christian) and some of me says “where 7?” Hey in sonic 2006, sega gave a character a demon name Mephile=Mephistopheles. If they can do that, why is there only 6 than 7?

    • Kaihaku

      Eggman is #7?

      • Taylor Davis

You might be right. That’s a really good guess, kudos to you :)

  • The multiplayer has me really curious. Also I want to know how different are the two versions.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Dr. Eggman always dig his hands in to something he can’t control then ask sonic if he could help him lol

    • AuraGuyChris

Then backstabbing occurs during the last ten minutes.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

yupe….. Sonic should just let him fight his own battle then again I guess we can’t have two shadows

        • Sperium3000

Given the direction Sega has been going with the Sonic series as of recently, I don’t think we’ll ever have even one Shadow, let alone two.

          • I really like that one “take that” from Classic Eggman and Modern Eggman in Generations!

            C. Eggman: “Who are they?”
            M. Eggman: “They are insignificant.”

  • Kaihaku

I’m cautiously optimistic. I like the overall visual style and the gameplay…not as keen on how the “deadly six” look but that’s hardly game breaking. Now to wait and see if Sega delivers a quality product.

    • Kelohmello

Glad I’m not the only one who’s not a fan of the Deadly Six… which is a horrendously cliched name, by the way. Still, game looks interesting! Hopefully it’ll turn out well.

  • Ah yes, Super Sonic Galaxy 2.

No really though, I like how this is looking, and I’m happy that Wisp powers are returning. Looking forward to getting the Wii U version especially! My system needs a bit more love and care and this’ll help it. I just imagine there’s gonna be some vertigo problems for some people…

You can search for the cancelled 1996 Saturn game “Sonic Xtreme”.
I’ll bet you’ll be surprised how similar it is with this game concept, even more than SMG.
(My inner fanboy says though Nintendo lent a hand with the level design assets ^^… Then again that ridiculous Sonic and Ninendo rumour about color powers and Nintendo level designers taking part in it, that got denied by Sega back in 2011… is likely to turn out to be true after all??)

      • Yeah, I know about Sonic Xtreme. It does feel like Sega’s reaching down into those roots with this.

You never know. Given the exclusivity of this? It might not be a stretch anymore…

  • Unfortunately, I don’t have a Wii U at the moment, so I’ll buy the 3DS version when it arrives in Europe. Then again, I will likely buy it after a few months of its release (too many games, yet so little money).

  • Solomon_Kano

Guess I’m grabbing this on both platforms.

  • Highasthesky

So the 3DS is a watered down Wii U version. Nice. When i first saw the trailer, i was skeptical whether the 3DS version would even look the same.

    • I hope Dimps went no where near this game either. The previous rumors stated that the 3DS version would play like Sonic Rush but I guess SEGA realized the 3DS was more powerful than that and decided to downscale the game instead.

I hope that happens with Smash Bros.

      • Highasthesky

I agree generations was well, less then impressive. Giving classic a homing attack, making modern Sonic gameplay a rush clone. I’m glad they’re giving the system it’s credit.

  • puchinri

Oho~? That sounds like fun. It’ll be fun seeing where the story goes, and I can’t wait to see more of the gameplay.

  • anarchy_panty

    Meet the Sinister DEADLY Six!

  • Guilherme Matheus Silva

    “Ever changing terrains”

    I liked it =]

  • XypherCode

    I’m digging the 3DS version. :)) But i’ll still get both. :D

  • steinhauershawn

The 3DS 268MHZ ARM11 CPU lacks “Blast Processing” 3DS versions Sonic Generation and Donkey Kong Returns all had a choppy frame rate.

  • s07195

I wonder how the Wisps will fit into this…? At the end of Colors, lots of them were sacrificed, and the rest seemed to have left with the planet…

  • Zurashii

I really like how Sonic is going back to his conceptual roots, instead of trying to go for a deep story. Mario and Sonic should just stick to what they originally did best: Saving the Princess and Little Critters, respectively.

  • mike dickson

hmm why does this look like a game sega cancelled
