Mamorukun Curse Flies Onto PlayStation 3 This July For $20

By Ishaan . May 31, 2013 . 1:30pm

Way back in January, we reported that Mamorukun Curse was headed to the PlayStation 3 in North America, and it will be available as a download title on July 16th, UFO Interactive announced today. The game will cost $19.99. Here’s an English trailer:

The PlayStation 3 version of Mamorukun Curse has two additional playable characters (Nowa and Rukina) that were released as DLC on the Xbox 360, two extra Netherworld Adventures courses, and alternate costumes for all seven characters. It also has 66 Trophies to unlock.

Here’s a story summary for the game:

Mamorukun and several other Chosen Souls who have been plucked from the realm of the Living and tosses into the Netherworld. Not remembering how they all wound up in such a strange place, the Chosen Souls are immediately ordered by the wholesomely cute and utterly demanding Ms Fururu, to assist her in restoring balance to the Netherworld and stopping the World of Darkness from taking over. With their newly acquired Curse Powers, the Chosen Souls must fight their way through the Netherworld in order to find and seal the gate that separates the Netherworld from the World of Darkness before it’s too late.

Awesome, an english release after all these years! Was really interested in this back when I discovered the composer of the music was Yousuke Yasui, of Supersweep. Game itself has really fun gameplay and the soundtrack is GLORIOUS. Glad to see it come to the west.

  • idrawrobots

    It looks difficult.

    • One life per character

  • Oh wow I forgot about this one ( >_<) Must put it on my list!

  • Code

“Rukina”, should probably be either translated “Luchino”, or “Luca” given it’s actually a cameo character from Senko no Ronde, Luca Werfel. His cat-familiar is also a cameo, being a cat-version of Karel Werfel from the first Senko no Ronde > w <; Hard to say how UFO will approach localizing this character's name, or even if they know he's a cameo o 3 o;; Hopefully they are aware~

    • Zharkiel

You’re talking about the company that botched Eliminage’s translation, so I wouldn’t put this past them.

Then again, katakana is a bitch, anyone can mess up when it comes to it.

      • Code

Yeah apparently on UFO’s PR sheet, lists him as “Rukino” *chin palm* I know I’m like the only person in the world heart broken by thiss / 3 ;; But yeah it’s terrible since his name is even written in english on the Japanese Senko no Ronde DUO page o ~ o;; No translation work needed.

YOU! haven’t seen you in a while.

  • SupaPhly

reminds me of pocky and rocky for some reason

    • Code

Yep the gameplay is pretty much derivative of Pocky & Rocky, same idea, slightly different shooting mechanics and an easier game as a whole~

    • Micrll

Exactly the same response I had when I first saw and played it. Similar style in that you choose most times when to move forward instead of being on a constant track. Not to mention they both draw heavily from Shinto in terms of enemy design and items in the levels.

  • JustThisOne

    Can’t turn down a good shmup~!

… Except maybe an hour later, after dying twenty times.

  • Andrew A

Really fun game. Picked up the 360 version a month ago and had a blast with it. Definitely will check it out again for the extras.

  • I liked the Mantra song.

  • Zonic505

Wow, nice surprise to hear it coming in about a month & for only $20. I remember looking at imports for about $60-ish before it was announced. Really glad I waited.

    • Micrll

Same here, I had it on my list of games to purchase next time I visit Japan. I played the PS3 demo multiple times and it was really good.

  • Zoozbuh

Any plans on a Europe release though? I asked UFO on their fb page, so hopefully they’ll get back to me. It would be a huge pain having to buy this off the US store for me (don’t you need an American credit-card/voucher or something to do that?) :/ The price is great though! And so glad this is got picked up~

    • Armane

It’s a little inconvenient buying things off the US store, but all you have to do is buy a US PSN voucher.

Personally I’ll wait to see if there’s a European release though.

  • Not buying this due to it’s ultra stupid difficulty

    • Zoozbuh

I don’t think it’s ‘ultra stupid difficulty’ from the reviews/opinions I’ve heard. Definitely not on the level of CAVE bullet-hell games anyway… But since I haven’t played it myself, can’t be totally sure.

      • Code

        It’s not really a hard shmup~ But because of the way the stage/difficulty scaling works, players can unintentionally make it harder on themselves o A o;;

    • It isn’t hard at all. If anything, this game’s level of difficulty is close to being like 1942. Certainly not even close to being Touhou-level.

      • Oh hmm guess $20 won’t hurt then

  • FetusZero

A bit saddened by the lack of a physical release, but still better than nothing! Count me in, I’ll grab this the day it comes out.

  • Finally! I’ve had the demo forever thanks to my Japanese account, but now I can actually play the full game and understand it =^_^=

  • Guest

Another thing- is it me, or could they have been a tad more creative with the name? …Don’t get me wrong, ecstatic they are localising it at all, but… this name doesn’t make the most amount of sense.

  • Juuu

Oh cool, I’ll double dip. I imported but it’s got enough dialogue to justify a second buy. Plus, it’s always nice to support some good old fashioned shoot-em’ ups! And a cute-em up is even better! ;p

  • Höhlenmensch

Let’s see if the PS3 fanboys who are always port begging STGs will put their money where their mouth is.

  • Isaac Newton

    Wow this is nice :D

  • Keko

Lately, I’ve felt like my PS3 wants to see me living under a bridge.

    • Testsubject909

      A nice bridge I hope.

  • Testsubject909

Sweeeeet. Been wanting some more shooters (Not FPS or TPS, I’m talking about this kind of shooter up here) on my consoles.

    Day 1, guaranteed.

Also, the opening sequence there reminded me of Yu Yu Hakusho…

Mainly because. Car accident death in the first five seconds.
