Publishers Decide If You Can Resell Or Lend Your Xbox One Games To Friends

The Xbox One used games talk begins again, although, this time, it’s more positive news. Microsoft have erected a webpage that touches upon a number of the Xbox One’s features, and explains how game licenses on the system are handled. Here’s what they have to say about re-selling your games and lending games to friends:

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.  Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

This news follows conflicting reports from Microsoft employees regarding how used games or games given to friends would work on Xbox One. At one point, it seemed as though Xbox One games across the board would require users to pay a fee to be able to play used games under a separate Xbox Live account than the one the game was initially registered to.

Now, it appears that whether or not a fee is charged is being left in the hands of individual publishers.

Additionally, Microsoft say that, within your family, up to ten members will be able to log in with their own Xbox Live accounts on play all of your games on the same Xbox One console.
