By Ishaan . June 7, 2013 . 11:00am

Namco Bandai have shared a brand new trailer for Tales of Xillia, slated for release later this year. The trailer, titled “Wishes of Hope,” features narration and dialogue providing some insight into the game’s story. Watch it below:

Tales of Xillia will be released on August 6th in North America and August 9th in Europe.

Oh, now this is how you make a trailer. Not the “FRIENDSHIP POWER” that was Graces f one

    • Chris Yuen

I played Tales of Graces F. I loved it but most of it was basically this:
      http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/081/c/1/protect_all_the_things_by_ladyashj-d4tmzb3.jpg

      • DesmaX

Sure, it was kinda the game fault too (I liked the game a lot, but the story was… not interesting)

But, seriously, just compare to Togf trailer:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dP0XsM23j0

(I guess this is one of the reasons it sold poorly in the West)

        • GH56734

          Sold poorly??

          • DesmaX

Reports says that it sold the same the series normally sold before… poorly.

          • Chris Yuen

Link? Because if that’s the case, I don’t think we would have seen Xillia coming our way. The numbers should be reasonable for Hideo Baba and his team.

          • KingRuff

They said we were getting Xillia because Graces f didn’t sell poorly. You aren’t making any sense. Maybe it sold poorly to you, but it obviously was enough to get us this game so I don’t see what could make you think that.

          • DesmaX

Oooor, maybe Hideo Baba really like his Fanbase (The fans are pretty vocal), and want the series to succeed in the West.

Let’s be honest, if even the CM of a company says “You should buy it to support new releases”, that’s because it’s not selling well as it should.

Here, check the comments here, a comment of Namco saying that is on the Top ones:
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tjy-1DQA2g

And, also, let’s remember that it had everything to fail: The game just appeared out of nowhere 2 months before release (Sure, it was announced… But marketing appeared at that time), a port of a Wii game released 2 years before release in japan costing US$50 ~ 60 (Can’t remember now) and the game theme was too japanese for western markets (I admire them making games for japan… But let’s be honest).

Sure, I kinda just read somewhere that sales failed, and I would really like if it did well, but, to be honest, I understand the failure (Every time I showed it to someone, they would say “Oh, this game looks interessing, I’ll pick it when it’s really cheap/It’s free on PS+”).

But, hey, Xillia looks like it could sell in the west, and Namco is giving proper Marketing for it this time around. I hope for the best

The issue with this kind of criticism is that friendship and protecting others are cornerstones of shounen fantasy narrative, and you can find those themes in almost every jrpg ever released.

While its plot is indeed rather formulaic, Graces f actually does a nice job in explaining why the characters are so focused on those goals compared to many jrpgs that tap on the power of friendship as if it was normal for everyone to strive for it.

        • Tienron

i totally agree with you on this statement made!

        • Guest

Sheesh. Lighten up. It’s just a joke. Like I said, I enjoyed the game, though I really got a laugh when I saw this picture a couple of years back and I had to dig it out again. “This totally describes the plot that I’m experiencing in the game!”

        Epic. XD

    • CirnoLakes

Also is good to mention that the opening for the game is going to be the same as the japanese version.

    • Crimson_Cloud

Heard the similar news on other forum but yeah, nice to hear it again just to be sure. Thanks. ^^

      • PlayLife

If you check the comments of this video on Youtube the confirmation is there by Namco itself

        • Crimson_Cloud

Ah, I saw it now. Nice. I didn’t doubt you by any means. Thank you again.

    • Barrylocke89

Always hype for a new Tales release, and this trailer makes me sad that its not already August :(

  • Spirit Macardi

Jude’s voice gives him super strength!

    • LynxAmali

He also kills people, who die when they are killed.

Also fights crime as a moonlighting lawyer.

  • Sentsuizan_93

And now a moment of silence for all the wallets that are going to be drained out this summer… *bows head* *sheds tear*
    ….And now to pre-order.

  • artemisthemp

Namco better get Xillia 2 ready

Also why is Dhaos dressed in Samurai Armor?

    • fireguardiancoty

That’s a funny way to spell Dymlos.

  • The Watcher

THATS how you do a trailer to an epic movie. To see it on a scale like that for a video game is very impressive.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

I’m going to be all over this game when it comes out!

  • Ladius

Terrific trailer, probably the best ever seen in the west for a Tales game.

This is just another proof about Namco’s effort to revive the series in the west and promote it in the best way, and I really hope everyone of us fans will support them in order to make the series a stable presence outside Japan (not to mention Xillia 2 probably depends on Xillia’s success).

  • neogeno

THAT is a damn good trailer right there!

  • Ladius

Namco confirmed both editions of Tales of Xillia (Limited Edition and Collector’s Edition) will have the preorder costumes DLCs.

Since lots of people here raged about the assumed lack of DLCs in the CE and canceled their preorders, it would be great if Siliconera could make a news post about this matter, even more so since this is where the controversy originated.
