Square Enix did not specify if the game is a PlayStation 4 exclusive title.

  • epy

Dammit SE… this is why I can’t leave you… but I still feel I’m not in a healthy relationship.

  • Javen

    thank you square enix..thank you

  • Mithfalath

Did… Did I just saw Cloud? XD
Also, this new trailer just confirms that it IS a full action game indeed.

    • Well, yeah! It was made by the Kingdom Hearts team! It was also the reason why KH3 took this long to be made!

  • eilegz

  • Herok♞

Well now people no longer have to complain its a good day for everyone.

  • NightzeroAX

    Manly tears are being shed.

  • Crimson_Cloud

This and KH3! My mind was blown.

  • MrTyrant

FFXV and KHIII saved the day.

  • Amagidyne

I’ve had a hunch for a while now that they were gonna just give up turn it into XV rather than VsXIII.

Nice to see it’s still alive though

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

ROFL!!! That is why people (me included) still hyped this game!!! It’s fucking Kingdom Hearts, Uncharted, Devil May Cry, and God of War all in one!!!

    • SoundMatch

I need that DMC fill in after that horrendous Ninja Theory Butchering.

  • Go2hell66

  • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

    I refrained from crying, barely.
This and KH3 teased, BEST E3 EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Ulicies

I too was fighting back tears. I kept thinking to myself: “Don’t cry, damnit! You’re trying to hang out with the family at the same time! They’ll know you’re crying for a video game!”

  • Pfantzypantz

I flipped out so bad when these came up, my gott.

  • Vesperion

    Sony Just won E3.

Now time to stop watching this conference

    • neo_firenze

They didn’t say that either FFXV or KH3 are exclusive to PS4, so perhaps that doesn’t mean Sony “won” anything.

They might be on Xbox One too, and PS4 might have DRM that’s just as bad as MS… Just sayin.

      • Vesperion

Yeah i did catch that at the end, but just knowing the game is alive and well brightens my day

      • NightzeroAX

First of all no. It will not be Xbox One. Why? Japan doesn’t like Xbox. Secondly I remember reading that Nomura doesn’t want to develop a Kingdom Hearts game for the XBOX. DRM thats in the Air for now. Sony wins.

        • M’iau M’iaut

The wording (and not wording) on events like this is essential — and often legal. What may have been said in the past is in the past. They were very specific on what was said tonight.

  • ToshiChan

You have no idea how many tables in this library I just flipped out of joy and excitement that my prayers have been answered

  • TheExile285

    I was not expecting this

  • Aaronrules380

Not surprised. But knowing current Square, I’ll be skeptical until they can prove it’s actually a good game

    • SerendipityX

Same here though I’m excited that its no longer vaporware.

  • Albel

How come people are actually happy about this?
Once again a big f*ck you from squenix…

    • Symbol de Au

Oh phew I was just about to post about how surprised I was people weren’t mad. Not that I’m mad. I was just expecting people to be mad. Actually I still don’t even know what this game is.

    • Vesperion

Any Versus footage makes me go GAGA

    • theoriginaled

I tried.. failing to see how its a f*ck you honestly. They’re delivering. Late is better than never.

      • Symbol de Au

Because apparently there were people who bought PS3’s years ago just for this game?

    • Go2hell66

i can see where your coming from, especially for those who bought ps3’s for versus, but you’ll get over it, the game looked amazing

    • Ferrick

and how are you angry about this ?

its not a big f*ck u from sqenix, its still a beacon of hope that versus (now 15) is still alive

      • Albel

        Why i’m angry? xD

Well, it’s been 7 years since the first announcement, dead silence for the last years and now they have the audacity to “announce” it once again, with no release date whatsoever and on a new console?

Worst of all, it doesn’t even look like “next gen” it looks almost exactly like the last footage they showed minus the interface and the “new” character designs.
And it’s not like it’ll see a release before 2015. So yeah, f*ck you square enix.

        • Ferrick

eh, its still a big change over “FF XIII VERSUS Rumored to be cancelled” that was spread everywhere, and most of us kinda knew that with all the 13s coming out on ps3, there’s no way that versus would too

        • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

You may want to check that vid again. I don’t know about you, but the amount of objects and particles that were moving, I’m not sure it’d be a current gen title.

        • this is like, seriously a pity anger grab at best.

    • Daniel blue

There’s just no pleasing some people.

    • I’ve pretty much been an FF “hater” for over the past decade, and I’ve even been kinda shamelessly grinning over Square’s recent troubles with disappointing its fans repeatedly and seemingly slowly dieing the death I always felt it deserved… lol ^_^’ (well, honestly, I just hoped it would force them to smarten up and change for the better)

Despite that, even I can see this as S-E’s first smart move with FF in a long time. Changing Versus XIII to a main FF and disassociating it from the XIII series in any way (even if it was only in its title) as well as announcing KHIII. On top of that, Versus XIII looks to be moving their franchise in an actually positive direction for once. I feel.. incapable of hating >.< this is the last surprise I would ever expect from E3… I thought the only way Square could win me back is with Rad Racer 3 or, more likely, an HD Parasite Eve remake… or bringing over their new franchises like Gyrozetter.

  • Raharu95

What a great day for gaming. This conference sure is giving me such a sweet taste to make me forget all of the Xbox one Garbage ^^

    • Raharu95

      At least so far~

  • AuraGuyChris

    Versus is dead.
    FFXV is alive.

    • Kitestwinblades

Risen from the ashes like a Phoenix! That logo transition(although not really much of a design change) was freakin’ Epic XD

    • OkamiKing

*Deals 100000000 Hype points to people*

  • Just as I thought. I figured they were just going to go ahead and call it XV. The FFXIII series has pretty much evolved into its own thing, so Versus XIII just wouldn’t fit in.

Gotta admit though, I’m kind of concerned over how scripted the game felt. It felt like watching a movie while inputting commands. I’ll have to see more to really see what kind of game it’s going to be.

    • Pyrotek85

Yeah unless it was related to the existing XIII trilogy it would seem out of place.

    • Aoshi00

W/ delay upon delay, I knew they would scrap the title Versus 13 and just call it 15, since Agito 13 was also renamed to Type-0. And w/ 13 being its own trilogy now, makes no sense the PSP game and now FF15 on PS4 to be called 13, and w/ 14 being an online game, it’s the right choice to not linger at 13 and move onto 15 (frankly the number 13 has worn on me lol)

Definitely happy for the news of finally getting a next gen KH3 (after so many handheld games) and FF15. DRM stuffs aside, looks like I need to get both Xbox One & PS4 (dunno why people rooting one or the other to fail, we need competition)

    • This might come off strange to a lot of FF fans, I think… but I’m hoping they’ve been taking some notes from Platinum Games for this… at least, I really hope it’s not gonna feel scripted like you say, or full of QTEs… :/ Then I don’t think I could ever believe in S-E ever again…

      • Ferrick

it’ll be probably be like kingdom hearts, because it was made based off that system (in a way), so it may have KH’s “reaction button”

        • I guess it makes sense why this FF actually appeals to me, then. The only things that’s ever appealed to me about the KH series has been it’s gameplay, while with FF it’s been pretty much the other way around. Now it looks like I can get that atmosphere/style I want along with the gameplay I want. It also seems to lack the cheesy direction that the FF series gave off since FFX…

          • Ferrick

yep, hopefully this game will be worth the wait, and ffx cheezy… by that do you mean this ?

          • lol, well yes, exactly, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg, imo… XD

(oh man, I don’t know how anyone could get through that game without cringing, honestly…)

          • Aoshi00

Not sure why people would still use the “forced” laughing scene as an example of anything.. do people really not understand the idea of why they were pretending to laugh? Can’t wait to play the game again in HD.

          • I guess yeah, that is a popular reason for a lot of Tidus dislikers as to why they don’t like him, as it just shows an instance of why we found him annoying. But wow, a near 10 minute video just to explain why a character laughed so strangely in a game scene? lol… I’m surprised that anyone misunderstands or misundrstood that scene. That’s exactly how I remember it coming about too, it still annoyed me and I still didn’t really like Tidus :P

          • Aoshi00

It’s just weird people perpetually use this clip against X, to say it has bad voice acting and such, it’s like they didn’t understand or ignored what that scene meant. It was really simple and self explanatory, Tidus was down, Yuna tried to cheer him up, asked him to laugh forcefully, Tidus did awkward fake laugh, Yuna did awkward fake laugh, then they both got weirded out about it and laughed together, and the rest of the group thought they went cuckoo.. it was a a funny, heart warming and memorable scene.. the acting was not bad nor was the scene badly acted out..

          • I still saw it as cringingly cheesy… lol, well everyone has different perspectives, I guess. We all look for different kinds of characters in who we like to see as leads in a game, I guess that’s another thing…

In most FFs I’ve found myself liking the side characters much more than the lead characters, and that was especially true with FFX. I only managed to like Kimahri, Lulu, and Auron.

    • KingRuff

It’s based off the KH system so it is probably incorporating a system like the Flowmotion in KH 3D. That was the first thing that came to my mind as I was watching it. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be scripted, my heart could’t handle the disappointment.

  • PS4? :( I’m now sad…. Happy for the KH III announcement but PS4 too? >->

  • SoundMatch

This year is just getting better and better isn’t it? Square Enix won, it’s that simple. That being said FFXV battle system looks revamped and it looks amazing. I’m gonna be so broke next year.

  • alixraen

All aboard the SE Hype Train.

    • Aaronrules380

No thanks. I’ve been betrayed too much by them in recent years

      • Ferrick

then down to the gallows with ye

      • alixraen

I think the word you’re looking for is “disappointed”

      • So you came to this article solely to let us know that?

      • Gekokujou

True that. I’ll still buy it though, but the game turned out like shit then it’ll be the last SE game I’ll ever buy first hand.

  • Mullane

Still struggling to work out what this game actualy is. Seems very messy.

    • DesmaX

Kinda like Kingdom Hearts, but now with a God of War/Uncharted kind of cinematic feel

    • This trailer is showcasing the cinematic battle sequences which square had told us about close to the 2011 trailer featuring noctis in the building and the exploding bridge. there are a few battle sequences shown here. But, the main battle gameplay can be seen in prior Trailers.

  • solbalmung

But srsly, what about the PS3?

  • The Watcher

As much as i would like this on the X1, Sony has every right to make this exclusive and leave it be.

  • DesmaX

Never though I’d get hyped for Square again…

  • pridesin

Final Fantasy 15 (Versus) is coming exclusive on both PS3 and PS4.

    • solbalmung

You can’t imagine how much I’d like to believe it. About the latter one…..

      • pridesin

They said during presentation (after they showing off the trailer), You can re-watch the video later to confirm yourself.

        • M’iau M’iaut

The only thing for which the word exclusive was tied was 14.

          • pridesin

He actually said 14?. Man, because he said that right after showing Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Heart 3, I thought that he said 15. Sorry about this misinformation.

          • Bloodios

Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Heart III coming to the PS4. It’s at the end of the video:

          • M’iau M’iaut

Coming to PS4 not exclusive to PS4.

          • Bloodios

            Hmm… I suppose so…

  • wasad

  • Godman

    So KH3 AND FFXV(as V-XIII)
    Yeah SE just pwn’d hard!

  • Sergio Briceño

I guess. If I was a fan of Square-Enix I would feel cheated. But since I picked up the PS3 for different reasons I’m not.

Actually mind blown by the trailer. It looked amazing. REALLY HOPING it doesn’t take another couple years to release and that what I saw is 100% in-engine (painful memories from XIII’s first couple of trailers claiming to be gameplay).

  • No surprise here. Also – for me – no excitement. I don’t like Kingdom Hearts, so I don’t much care about either this or KH3. Sorry, Square. I’m gonna have to see some games that don’t have Tetsuya Nomura in a significant development position.

  • Spider-Man

  • VICTORY for all SE fans in the world!
    I love you guys!

    • Ethan_Twain

Nay, victory comes if and when the games are good. It is not beyond Square Enix to release overproduced tripe. Let’s not count any chickens before they hatch.

      • Maybe we should just forget about them and not give them a chance at all.
        Or… maybe you should?

      • There’s plenty of bad stuff in the world but there’s time to be be happy and look forward to something.

  • Ni

I was aready expecting this to happen.

  • Ethan_Twain

Bah. Both Square Enix announcements were Nomura projects. I’m a JRPG guy, but I am NOT a Nomura guy. So for me, this is a huge bummer.

    • Finally, a brother in apathy!

    • amagidyne

Yeah, I was (foolishly) hoping XV would be something else. Nomura needs a tight leash to be anything less than unbearably obnoxious, so this’ll be a miss for me. I’m glad people are happy about it, at least.

      • Revorse

        What’s wrong with Nomura?

        • Ferrick

don’t bother asking, because when it comes down to it, people like them don’t have an exact answer on why they hate certain people

          • Ethan_Twain

No, you do me injustice! Tune in to my response to Revorse above. A mindless hater I am not.

          • “People like them”? You mean, people who don’t share your self-evidently correct opinion?

        • Ethan_Twain

A fair question! Nomura’s work always has pretty strong character design and use of color. I feel like his start as a character artist shows through in whatever he works on. That part is good.

However, the storytelling in anything he touches seems to go off the deep end of ridiculousness. That trademark anime semi-nonsense talk that throws in philosophical words and concepts without actually intelligently engaging with the meaning? That’s like ALL he does. Well, that or nonsense talk about light and darkness. Just think about the stuff he’s been attached to: Parasite Eve 3, The Bouncer, each FF XIII, every Kingdom hearts… I recognize that he’s not responsible for the narrative direction in all of these (His credits range from director to producer to character designer to main story concept depending on the game) but ALL of these games have just the sort of intellectually hollow storytelling that just does not satisfy me now that I’m older than 13.

I mean, when has a Nomura game actually had something meaningful to say about it’s subject matter? KH 1 was about the power of friendship. Okay, it’s a disney game, that’s cool. But since then? Light and Darkness. Never give up! Memories are important. Friendship is important again. There’s nothing there to engage the left side of my brain at ALL.

Answer: TWEWY was the last time a Nomura game had something worth reading. That game actually used it’s story and mechanics to examine a modern teen and how technology can leave you feeling isolated and how many people these days can end up socially inept introverts and why companionship with other humans is important. It was decently conveyed, stuck to a REALLY interesting set of RPG systems, and it was relevant to a lot of people in the real world. It was way cool!

And other JRPGs do this all the time. FF XII was an examination of maintaining one’s honor in the face of a caustic society. FF X was the most staunchly atheist game I’ve ever played (I realize that religious symbolism gets thrown around all the time in JRPGs, but in FF X it was actually purposeful and the meaning was NOT kind to established religion). FF Tactics Advance was about kids playing make believe, and having to make the choice to stop playing make believe even though the world is kinda crummy. That’s relevant to most every child in a first world country, that’s great!

Basically, Nomura’s games don’t feel smart. They’re flashy, but empty inside. And for JRPGs, games that I play largely for the storytelling experience, that’s kind of a deal breaker.

          • Yes to all of this, although it’s worth noting that Nomura doesn’t actually write for any of the games he works on (you can blame that on Kazushige Nojima, although Nomura’s influence and obsession with puerile, vapid J-pop fantasies surely doesn’t help). To add a couple of things to that: while Nomura was a talented artist early on in his career (his designs for FF7, for example, were deservingly iconic and genuinely great) his art style has gradually descended into self-parody, and at this point he can be relied upon to crap out absurdly overdesigned wannabe glam-rockers who look like they just sidled off the stage of some fashion show gone horribly wrong. They’re so overdone and synthetic-looking they’re impossible to take seriously, and in fact often cross over into garish obnoxiousness.

Likewise – and most damningly – the games Nomura have worked on as a developer exhibit an emphasis on style over substance even in the actual gameplay. From a mechanical standpoint, the Kingdom Hearts games are really not that novel or complex – they’re basically rudimentary action-RPGs with lots of flashy animations and DISNEY CHARACTERS OMG. (I’ve never warmed up to the “brilliant” concept of placing stereotypically angsty Square characters and Disney icons side-by-side, incidentally. When I look at it, to this day all I can see is an exceptionally cynical commercial venture aimed at exploiting consumer nostalgia for mega-bucks and nothing else. I defy anyone to prove me wrong.) There are no novel mechanics in his games, nothing that other games could copy or learn from – just mediocre games that sell themselves on brand recognition and spectacle. So why should I be excited when Square announces a new game by the same developers, this time without even the appeal of recognizable characters?

And for the record, I didn’t even like TWEWY. I just found Nomura’s art and the characters’ personalities too grating to enjoy (also the game felt hella claustrophobic).

    • well, good thing no one cares if its individually for you.

      • Ethan_Twain

This comment was deleted too. By me.

        • my apologies both to the site and yeshua.

      • M’iau M’iaut

We can do this without the insults.

  • So cute.

    • Bloodios

His papa seems like a likeable guy, too.

      • Lemon

That’s what I was thinking. I hope he doesn’t die just to give Noctis the resolve to fight even harder, though…I-it won’t be that sad, right?

        • Kaitsu

Sadly, I think that’s exactly what’s going to happen. I’ve seen way too many K-Drama that does this. Very likeable father gets killed. :C

          • SaveTheDay

Furthermore, as some trailers (the first one if I remember well) showed it before, the story shares some references with Hamlet, in which the King (noctis’s dad here) dies at the very begining…not to mention Hamlet does die in the end too…

        • His father will be a villain or demi-villain (like hi is a good guy but must to act as a badguy), it’s obvious

    • KingRuff

Young Noctis for adorable tier. His dad seemed a lot nicer than I was expecting. It was a pleasant surprise.

    • Strangely, I think that scene sold me on this game more than anything. It was subtle and real yet spoke so much, it didn’t have any characters or dialogue that I felt were obnoxious, annoying, or cheesy. It’s the way I always imagined the direction of my favorite moments from pre-X Final Fantasies (especially in VIII) would have been with dialogue and better graphics.

      • Ethan_Twain

Agree. Easily the best moment of the trailer. A dad teaching a kid a lesson about the rules he’s gotta abide by as a noble. But then just as quickly sticking out his green tongue and showing the friendly human side of dad, showing that he understands how his kid feels. It was a good little moment.

If the final product is mostly this and mostly not waxing philosophical about fate and light and darkness, then it may yet be a product of interest to me :)

hopefully it will be for ps3 also, as rumored.

  • piichan

Even tho everybody knew it was coming after Nomura hinted at it, still great to see a confirmation. KH3 too :)

    The prediction really come true…

  • YoshEE

Nice, Sony showing lot of great games for this and KH3.

  • Lemon

That trailer blew me away. Childhood friends, romance, kickass action, politics etc…it Finally Feels like the Final Fantasy Franchise is back to wow us in the greatest ways.

  • Called it. So fudging epic.

  • konsama

Saw it coming years ago, but awesome news nonetheless, even better if we know it’s not tied to the XIII saga anymore.

    • Um.. it says Fabula Nova at the begining of the trailer…

      • konsama

Yeah i noticed, i posted this before i saw the trailer.

  • I’ve never really been a fan of FF although I’ve played them from I to X, and I’ve even been a self-described FF hater ever since FFX left a bad taste in my mouth and because all that followed failed to get any interest out of me (FF 12 being an almost exception…). But I don’t think I can ignore my hype for this game. I can’t believe I’m actually excited for a new FF…..

  • Brion Valkerion

I wonder how much is gameplay for the scenery and actual gameplay. I assume everything without a map is mostly just for showy awesomeness. None the less… Square enix might still have that spark, which I hate to say.

  • Trailer

  • StarWarudo

    I called it.

  • Ni

Square made me so hyped that i’m fangirling all over them like some years ago

Faith in Square Enix Status: 255

  • DyLaN

Well this should stop the “where mai versus 13” comment chain. *phew* All is well again :)

    • one would only hope. Dont worry tho. I’m sure people will find a new reason to bash square for “cancelled projects” and games that are “never” coming out.

  • I ACTUALLY cried and lost my voice. I have work in the morning, BUT I REGRET NOTHING.

  • Lemon

The heroine for XV looks very beautiful. That and I’m very bias towards childhood friends. Tifa will still always be my favorite FF heroine, though.

  • lol

  • SpectralRaiden

Square Enix has gone full retard…and has somehow found a way to convert that into pure “Winning”.

    • it seems you are trying to implement said startegy with your post.

  • Solomon_Kano

I cried. I really cried. I called this back in February, but it didn’t do shit to make me any less hype. That trailer was beautiful.

  • Surgeon of Death

    Pre-Ordered also.

  • Chim_era

    hmm yes …. no …. I really don’t know :p
For me it seems kinda “easy”. XIIIvs was suposed to be an line extension game and now it’s a big new brand game?
It just comes in mind what SE was saying just a couple of months ago.
That another fiasco like XIV would kill the company. And now we know that numbers for games as TR fell short … I can’t help to think this is just another way to make quick money :(

    Please prove me wrong though

  • Ulicies

I keep hearing Man of Steel’s theme in my head while I read these articles. Such a triumphant day for Square Enix fans.

  • I wonder if this due to the new Management …. SE nailed the hype. I want to love SE again

  • XiaomuArisu

    So the rumors were right.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

    So much hype last night
