Ready At Dawn’s New PS4 Game Takes Place In An Alternate History London

By Ishaan . June 12, 2013 . 9:20am

At their PlayStation press conference on Monday, Sony debuted a new PlayStation 4 game being developed by Ready at Dawn, the developer of God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Titled The Order: 1886, the game takes place in London during the Victorian Era.

The Order: 1886 follows an alternate history where technological advances are at the centre of a battle for mankind’s survival. In this world, the Industrial Revolution, which took place 40 years prior to the events of the game, stemmed from mankind’s desire to prevail in a centuries-old war.

The Order: 1886 doesn’t have a release date yet. You can watch the trailer above.

This looks cool and quite unique. I was afraid we’d have more games in the ancient roman times era which was starting to feel old consider God Of War of last gen, and then even at Xbox One RYSE!. That good character designs, a seemingly compelling story, and lots of great weapons makes this pretty fresh and on my radar. I hope more coverage is undertaken for this title.

” I was afraid we’d have more games in the ancient roman times era which was starting to feel old consider God Of War…”

You do realise God of War takes place in Ancient GREECE, not Rome? Plus, if anything, games that take place in Ancient Roman times are incredibly rare and usually limited to the strategy genre.

That said, Ryse does come off as a “GoW for Xbox”.

I do not think the setting is bad, but we need some new ideas. Ryse, so far, is like God of War in Rome. Changing the setting doesn’t resolve the problem that the public is saturated from the formula.

I would love to see some developer doing a Colisseum game with a bigger focus on smaller battles (1×1, 1×2) while developing an interesting narrative with it. Think Gladiator the game.

Neat character designs and theme, though I do hope this one fares better than Overstrike did…
