Back in April, Square Enix detailed the classes and jobs in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Now, they’ve released a new trailer for the upcoming MMORPG that shows off a new class that will be in the game—the Arcanist, with its Summoner and Scholar jobs. Check it out below:

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is slated for release this August on PC and PlayStation 3. PlayStation 4 will get the game in 2014.

lack of dark knight still makes me kinda sad =<

    • Strid

It’s Thief for me… how in the hell are they seeing it reasonable to leave out such basic Final Fantasy staples?

      • NewestType

Don’t be so sure they are leaving them out. They are releasing new jobs as early as this year.

        • Strid

I’ve been playing since the beginning so at this point it’s like, they’ve been absent for years now and though they may come in the future, this is still how I feel.

          • NewestType

I guess a thief would seem fairly basic in terms of what to include. I am just assuming that for the cost of development, each character has to be considered deeply. From the assets to the skills, the time/money it costs to make a unique character is probably more difficult. With this in mind I think they decided to choose Jobs/ Classes that would cater to the games current play style and challenges. I know how you feel. My XI character had always been a thief. He was not so stealthy tho since I often only had him in his “bare essentials”.

      • AndyLC

If Pugilists/Monks had dual daggers instead of fists, you’d have Thief.

Does anyone know if the beta carries over to the retail copy? Not sure if I want to start if the info wont transfer :P

    • kool_cid414

    • Syn

^^^^^, this is what I want to know as well, Great Swords FTW… They are my play style of chocie in most mmorpgs as well as RPG’s

  • gk2012

Oh hey, 3 new classes that basically does the same thing.

    So much creativity!

I never tried XIV yet, but couldn’t they just make one summoning class and separate summons/roles into skill trees? :/

    • “skill trees”

That’s the point of these “3 classes” you just mentioned. That’s the way the class im using in Beta right now Pugiilist, evolves into a Monk. IIRC the Arcanist is the base class and you can branch into the Summoner and Scholar classes once you reach a high enough lvl.
