Probably could mention that funimation acquired it in the US and will also be releasing it this summer in a limited editon and screening it in theaters in the US, and doing a typical english language dub release in the future. http://funimation.tumblr.com/post/52976810089/flower-mound-tx-june-14-2013-funimation

Guess that means we can expect to see half of the English voice cast return, and the other half inexplicably replaced. Which is still better than the Japanese version, I suppose.

I maybe in the minority of people who actually like Motoko’s new design.

I think it’s a bit weird (and I agree with Ishaan that she looks like she could be Fuuka’s older sister XD ), but I don’t dislike it at all. Infact, I kind of appretiate that its less sexualised compared to her previous designs.

      • Shane Guidaboni

Agreed. The decreased sexualization is also what immediately drew me to her new design and helped me appreciate it more.

Good production values (although there were some quirks, like the classic missing nose), a military conspiracy, a bit of fanservice….yep, it’s definitely GitS. =P

It’s only eight minutes, including the intro (I don’t know why they even have one, considering its a movie series), but I want to see more.

One other thing very important to me about GitS has always been its soundtrack, and that was missing from this, imo. Whatever music there was, though, was alright. It at least set a suitable tone/ambiance and over all the atmosphere suited the GitS series, although a more low key one, despite the new style…

Over all, I’m liking this, it’s looking good despite any problems I have with it (I still don’t like Motoko’s new design… she looks so “ordinary girl” to me, while all her other incarnations were totally cool/badass types). I’m at least finding the story interesting, so that will keep me on board. It’s looking good, but I really don’t think it’s going to reach the heights of any of the past GitS…

      • Shane Guidaboni

I thought the music was atmospheric and quite good, actually. This is only 8 minutes of show-time, though, so It’s not much to base an entire OVA series worth of music on.

Kind of a bummer that mamoru oshii isn’t in on this.

Sometimes they publish an article about anime that have slight connection with video game like Fate Zero, some title published by NISA, and this. Maybe because the GITS MMO?

Ain’t a thing to you son, Siliconera don’t follow no rules

  • neocatzon

There’s a rep like that here? Well, these articles don’t have category and will lose to oblivion. Though this one still has slight video game connections.

Whats wrong with covering anime that interests the site staff…regardless, I wish they would cover destiny, I even asked the siliconera twitter account but it seems its just an rss feed output bot :(

It’s not like it’s uncommon for websites to expand from their original purpose. Videogame and anime often cross-over, and as a fan of this series I’m happy to see it posted here. I don’t check anime news websites, so I wouldn’t really hear about this otherwise.
