By Ishaan . June 17, 2013 . 11:00am

Sega have shared a debut trailer for Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode 2, the upcoming expansion to their sci-fi online multiplayer game. The trailer shows off some of the new features we’ve previously reported.

New to Episode 2 are Dumans, a new race of selectable characters. Also part of the expansion pack are new Katana and Bullet Bow weapon categories. Additionally, Bravers are a new class. The biggest addition, however, is a new planet named Vopal.

Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode 2 will be released on July 17th.

Meanwhile everyone in the US is getting the shaft from Sega.

    • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

      At least we have FFXIV…

      • Zeether

FFXIV is no substitute for this.

        • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

True, but it’s nice to know not ALL JPN companies are giving us the shaft.

          • Zeether

That’s because FFXIV is a FINAL FANTASY GAME.

          • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

            And your point is…?

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Leave a message…It still looks like crap

          • Nightmesh

Type 0 fans would like to have a word with you.

          • Tyler Beale

I’d love to be a fan, if they would just quit fucking around and get it out to us already!!

          • random reader

Gimme a break. People are still complaining about this? Haven’t you figured out by now game companies are not in the business of charity? They’re not going to spend money to distribute Type0 in English they know they’re not going to see their investment returned.

          • Syn

We know that oh repeatfull person, but if all game companies had that mentality, we would have no JRPG’s here, am sure theres publishers in the US willing to localize the game for sega, they just wont do it, also FSO is a popular game so its not charity cos people will pay for the things in game.

    • Kai2591

US and the rest of the world except Japan, that is ;)

    • random reader

Came here expecting to see comments, as usual, complaining about Sega
not localizing this fast enough for people. Meanwhile there’s been an
English patch for the game for like a year now, easily found and
      installed for PSO2 ffs

      • Chris Cruz

Ive attempted to get myself set up for PSO2, but theres that damn Hiragana Captcha I can’t get through. Any idea what I should do?

      • Zeether

That’s what EVERYONE HAS BEEN TELLING PEOPLE. I want a legit translation, the patch barely covers much of the game. It’s the laziest response ever and reeks of “We’re never getting this so shut up and play JP only.”

      • Final UA

So very true, can’t believe people don’t look read up that PSO2 has a english patch and english story patch that’s been up for so long. Oh well less english people = less drama!

  • Crimson_Cloud

Damn this looks so good. The official English page hasn’t been update for quite a while. The hell are they doing?

  • http://www.twitter.com/georgiegenocyde georgiegenocyde

Sega rather than releasing a new episode which is great and all. How about a little love for the US release. Seriously I bought a Vita just for that and after hearing it was never confirmed for US. Then built a computer. I WANT PSO2.

  • CirnoLakes

    Hey SEGA.

Guess what country I live in?

    • Tyler Beale

The country in which our favorite vocaloid’s PS3 game is coming.
And the country in which we will never get PSO2.

      AKA, the US!!!

      • idrawrobots

I could get more than enough of my personal preference of vocaloid in PSO2

      • https://twitter.com/kcgst Karu

Or any other place in America, it doesn´t matter, we get the same result :(

      • Kevadu

I don’t know why people think we’ll never get PSO2. Sega had a huge booth at PAX Prime last year *dedicated* to PSO2. That’s not cheap to rent out. And the demo they showed was in English already.

Now I know that they seem to be taking their sweet time and I don’t really know why, but it’s clearly something they’re working on.

        • Draparde

Its probably because of their track record in regards to PSO games.

infinity did not come out for good reason imo, and afaik we did not get all the updates ect for PSP2,

and PSU apparently was very badly neglected in the update department.

Now none of this says to me “it’s never coming out”. but i think people either just want it out sooner (or info on its release date)
or are just cautious about how sega of america will handle it.

especially with how easy it is to play the Japanese one and how if they start from how it was at launch in English, it will be quite behind.

          • Tyler Beale

It’s not so much the track record that’s the issue (although PSPo2 NEEDS TO BE ON PSN for PS Vita support, even if only the offline campaign works), but rather the fact that it’s been quite a while since PAX Prime (though I never saw footage or screenshots of it being in English, AFAIR) and they haven’t said a single word since.

On top of that, there is a concern regarding matching the English version up with the then-current Japanese content update.

Also, hasn’t Sega banned foreign accounts for PSO2 JPN?

Meanwhile, Sega does something good by bringing Hatsune Miku to western PS3s, and does something bad by betraying Sonic fans who aren’t (and/or don’t intend on being) Wii U/3DS owners….

          • Kevadu

The PAX Prime demo was definitely English. I was there, I played it.

As far as poor support of the PSP games goes…well, they’re PSP games. Sega appears to have completely abandoned the PSP in the west (hello Valkyria Chronicles…), but that doesn’t have anything to do with Phantasy Star specifically. I get that Sega hasn’t been really communicative about this, but I still wouldn’t give up hope.

          • Tyler Beale

Playing PSPo2 on my Vita is the only reason I’d ever hack it. But I can’t…

As for VC3, they could just to a NISA and leave it undubbed and make it a PSN only release.

Or, if they really wanted to be awesome, localize Infinity as a PSN only release…

          • Draparde

They have not banned Foreign accounts. As far as I know they never have.

well, not because they where foreign accounts anyway.

I also mentioned that the problem is also SEGA not having said anything lol.

  • Masa

It sucks that the West are not getting Yakuza 5 after getting the first 4 in the story and i can’t see us ever getting this game, Sega suck alot lately.

    • random reader

Yeah, blame Sega because not enough copies of the past 4 Yakuza games sold they want to potentially lose money by sending a fifth game that will probably go unnoticed by the majority of western gamers. selfish as fuck

      • Masa

Dynasty Warrior games sell hardly no copies in the west but KOEI still release the games over here because the little fanbase the game does have love the series and they dont want to see them miss out,

Sega just don’t give a fuck though.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Damn! I’m really liking the Dumans and everything in the trailer looks nice and all, but alas I live in the U.S. and I’ve been waiting for what seems like an eternity now SEGA.

    http://epiclyamazing.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/me-trying-to-give-a-fuck-gif.gif?w=200

    • TheExile285

I want Beasts back, dammit! >:(

      • Bobby Jennings

Me too! I’m just hoping they’re next.

      • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Yeah I was surprised to see Dumans, something new from Infinity to be added before Beasts.

  • Bobby Jennings

inb4 everybody complains about a US release-oh wait.

Anyways Episode 2 looks amazing. I can’t wait for the patch.

  • MrTyrant

Don’t worry guys, we’ll get Phantasy Star with all the episodes and updates. Right Sega?……

  • Brandonmkii

Man, I am going to make such a sweet Duman.

  • michel

If we make a Japanese account on our Vita, can we play it? Because I’ve grown very pessimistic about its localization…

    • アティ

      Yes you can play it
the only reason people doesn’t play it even they can is because u need to reformat memory stick , etc. and the language barrier issue since it would be crap if u can’t understand stuff like descriptions ,etc.

      • michel

I see. Thanks for your answer.

        Are you actually playing it?

  • Istillduno

Sega has forgotten what a Europe or America is.

*Hint* They are very big, and have people on them which use things called Euros and Dollers which you can exchange for Yen and which they would give you in exchange for games if you would every release the bloody things over here.

Seriously, now Namco’s finally starting to get their act together with the Tales series it feels like Sega is filling the gap for the title of company who gives the least ****s about the rest of the world.

    • random reader

Sega has tried numerous times to get their games to western countries only to see poor sales numbers. Again, game companies are NOT charity! If people don’t buy their games, guess what?….they stop sending them!

  • Demeanor

    To the West. NOW.
Gaaaah I want a katana-wielding-long-and-flowing-hair-duman-hottie as a char, like Ikaruga from Senran K!!! It’s a bummer we don’t have any release date yet, what with FF XIV creeping ever closer on us. This game looks really good.

  • Ferrick

hmm, i wonder on how versatile will Braver+fighter be

  • MasterScrub

I’d honestly be a lot less irritated if Sega would just SAY something. If you’re not gonna bring it over anymore then just say ‘Sorry localization plans have been cancelled.’ instead of leaving everyone hanging.

  • http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/25050-farm-mapping-contest/#entry239430 Chaos17

Need english translation please. Or at least talk to us a bit.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Beasts will rise again!! I hope

  • Ixbran

So they are bringing back the Dumans? Good so far, now where are the Beasts?

  • http://www.youtube.com/Lyonharvestmoonfan Eduardo Rocha

    Please… localize this…

  • http://www.staticshin.com/ Akshat Jiwan Sharma

I am hoping that this means that PSO2 episode 1 was a success.

  • gamefreak86

Man game looks awesome. Premium package for PC too. Looks like toons and nods also actually speak. Seems like that the reason for huge delay or they might have just abandoned it completely and have yet to break it to us.

  • http://www.flavors.me/ericgornicki Eric Gornicki

I fucking love the design of this game. Too bad there’s no localized version of it T_T

  • natchu96

Just give us the game dammit.

So would Dumans still be the extreme-glass-cannon race like they were in Infinity, or what would they do?

    • wefwq

Duman rumored to have high atk with low defense and HP.

  • Vash bane

hope still lives in me that one day….one day we will get this

  • Brandonmkii

    And I love it.

  • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

It’s more than that because the gameplay and co-op play is fantastic. And yes, character customization is a huge part as well. Love the game, hoping Episode 2 is also part of F2P, enjoying playing it on JP servers for free.

  • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Saving Grace requires the other features to suck. Just because you don’t personally like them, doesn’t make them suck. Good character customization is something too many online games lack, and PS has always excelled in. And you being the only one to down vote me says a lot to your opinion.
