Another Konami RPG We Never Saw Is Headed To Japan’s 3DS Virtual Console

By Ishaan . July 3, 2013 . 12:50pm

Next week, Japan’s Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console gets an RPG that never made it to western shores—Konami’s Esper Dream. This is a top-down action RPG that has you playing as a boy that has been transported inside a book.

Esper Dream’s battles aren’t turn-based. Once you encounter an enemy, you’re taken to a separate battle screen like most JRPGs, but actions are carried out in real-time. You’re equipped with various firearms and use them to take enemies out, in addition to your ESP skills.

Esper Dream will be available for download on July 10th for 500 yen.

Man, i miss Suikoden. Well whatever.

I won’t find it hard to believe if Konami is giving the US fanbase another chance to build hype and profit for a potential US release of a main timeline Suikoden via this game.

Yes, I know it sounds farfetched, but given how Konami Japan has MGS as its single biggest moneymaker, to the point it even funds the overbudgeted IIDX.

Either way, in foresight, I look forward to a Kojima-led Suikoden.

  • What was the general consensus on this one in Japan, does it have a following? Curious as I’ve never heard of this game before.

  • That sounds neat. I hope we get some of these japan exclusive NES games in the west. I’d love to play this.

”Another Konami RPG we never saw”…and will probably be left this way ):

I highly, HIGHLY recommend Aeon Genesis’ fan-translation of Esper Dream 2. Do yourself a favour and check it out. It’s also a far better game than its predecessor

  • Never heard of it, but the sprite work is very cute.

I miss when Konami made games outside of Metal Gear…
