Monster Hunter Online, the free-to-play Monster Hunter game from Tencent, is currently in closed beta, and players have been taking video footage of their experience. Below are two such videos, that show players going up against Caeserber and Yian Kut-Ku:

Graphics look amazing, and still feels true to MH even though Tencent is behind it this time around. It may be a huge stretch to want this game in NA but wanting never hurt anybody. Plus, dat Bibarel.

    • I was afraid that since Tencent was doing the game it would not feel monster hunter like. After seeing the video I’m happy to see they captured the monster hunter formula perfectly. It truly looks like a monster hunter in superior graphics.

  • wow, gotta admit when i saw the first trailer i thought it looked mostly awful but watching these videos, goodness it looks superb

Its definitely looking better. There are still some sound and animation issues that still stand out but its certainly getting there (Kut-Ku didn’t actually “fly away” to another location it just kind of popped off the screen). I think I’m more interested now than I was before. I hope they can iron out the issues.

this actually looks good, hopefully that weapon breaking thing is just a rumor, and not a real mechanic. . .

I will say, it’s a little clunkier looking, what with some of the movements and animations. Plus the Yian fight seems to have serious lag. . . and then a weird disconnect lol

hopefully it’ll release in NA because im dying to hunt again

Cryengine 3, + MH + Actual real RPG elements like levels and seeing our damage? Where do I sign up? LS power finisher looked awesome, and the charging of bowgun rounds is something I always wanted. Looked like he WF’d at the end! Hope this will be considered for worldwide release! Still enjoying MH3U right now, but man this has me far more excited than MH4.

So I guess this is roughly the look of a PS4/X1 MH game.

Look at that quick slot bar.. PERFECT for the VITA as the screen is just under/beside your thumbs.

If only there was a VITA MH.

    Impressive graphics.

  • WyattEpp

I honestly hope the level thing is just HR and not something stat-related. MH is all about being prepared for what you’re fighting; its “levels” are the monster parts you wield and wear.

…But it certainly looks pretty nice.

  • Why can we never have the good stuff. Is this still going to be China Only? Are faced to suffer the second coming of the Monster Hunter Frontier Asian lockdown?

  • Ruins72

anyone else get annoyed when they noticed the damage being shown? That’s not supposed to happen in Monster Hunter.
    Also, they made Kut-ku hideous

    • AdhesiveBoy

You’re right, it does take away from the MH essence. But this is designed for the Chinese audience, most of whom I imagine haven’t played the series before, so they’re adding typical MMO elements.
