At 1st i thought, that I see a dakimakura within the goodies, but nope :/

Guess they need to throw in a lot of sex appeal to get people interested in rebuying the same game again. I for one have wasted enough money on lazy rehashes DOA rehash over the years. I’m done with them.

    • Helepythia

I don’t follow DOA, but isn’t the sex appeal the main selling point of DOA?

      • Sakurazaki

I still think it is. Most of the sex appeal goes to costumes and the Limited Editions, though.

The whole change in graphics/models and the fighting system have made me think that TN are trying to get the best of both worlds. TN went with an approach more towards the gameplay with the “I’m a fighter” slogan rather than the boobage everywhere. It’s still a very pretty game regardless.

But yeah, I’m just a little offended by the rehash move. DoA5 definitely felt beta, and I think TN should’ve taken more input from the community more seriously (as they were even before the games release). I guess they were pushed with a deadline or something, but I don’t know.

I’ll still be getting Ultimate, but I’ll wait a bit due to rehash fears and I just don’t have the money. They’ve used Ultimate in the past, and that was a final version.

Sounds like you are serious? DoA is a really good game franchise, and the top tier competitors right now are Street Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive and Virtual Fighter.

That said their goal is both gameplay and looks, where they take “looking good” further than their competition. This doesn’t just involve the boobs of the girls, but also the environmental hazards, water/sweat effects, facial expressions, stages and so on. Even the fighting looks better where the hold system allows for some really artful combat. If you are into martial arts this would be something you’d appreciate.

I could go on, but I’ll leave it at that.

        • Sakurazaki

Don’t forget Marvel vs. Capcom; right under SF, or Soul Calibur and the ArcSys games. ArcSys games are more popular than DoA/VF.

I think DoA is a very very VERY solid fighting game now, but I honestly don’t know how to get more people to like it. It has about the numbers just above MK or VF. It’s just not a big enough game.

I do think the new mechanics and the whole graphics shebang was a step in the right direction, though. I just think Capcom has the reins of the market horse right now ever since they started it again with SFIV. Everything that isn’t SF or MvC has just tend to suffer in mediocrity, I feel.

Hopefully the free demo for Ultimate will bring some people in.

          • $7573679

Truth be told, if you want to sum it up it would be Capcom (SF) and Namco Bandai (Tekken) that take the lead by a long shot. There is no getting around that. They have more economical muscles for marketing, been around longer, stronger brand power and so on.

That said DoA has been around for 4 generations, and are starting to build a respectable base themselves, and their new alliances with Virtual Fighter may bring fruits for both companies.

I’d also like to see the good folks behind DoA succeed, and I think they will, but I believe they need to think long term and continue with what they do well, and not try to grow too fast either. Even if this means that they’re stuck with a demographic that is smaller in size right now, they’re still making a descent profit.
“Pro-players” and nostalgics will always favor the game they’ve grown up with or are skilled at, and can never be swayed, thus SF and Tekken will remain undisputed on the word of mouth for some time to come as they was first to marked. However in the long term this effect will wither, and innovation and quality will become more important. In regards to this I believe DoA will win a bigger marked share, or profit in general, if they just keep up the good work they are doing.

It’s pretty common practice for fighting games to be full of fanservice, but DOA gets the worst rap for it (of which they brought it upon themselves). I’ve been a DOA fan since the PS1 days, and it’s my favorite fighting series ever. I honestly wish they’d cut back on the fanservice, or at least the advertising of it, as it just hurts the series’ image to casual onlookers.

I actually noticed the same thing right from the start. I’ll prob. get my 3D mouse pads and all that, but that cover… jeesh. Hope it is a Japan only thing where they respond better to yellow and all that, and that EU / US gets something different, because that is not something I’ll let laying around the living room.

    • Sakurazaki

The NA boxart was just a little less crowded: http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/271125b.jpg

Not that that is a good thing…

    • landlock

Damn, I’d take a Momiji one. Make it happen Tecmo Koei.

  • Longsun_Zhao

what the fuck is a “bath poster?”

    • Scarlet_Devil_Slave

water resistant poster. if you want to hang one on your wall in your bathroom. It wont get soggy or get damaged.

      • landlock

        Only “water” huh?

        • Testsubject909

My mind said to me “Makes cleaning easier”

  • DarthSithZero

    daaayuumm One Momiji Mousepad please

  • Jesse Thompson

Cut to the chase and release DOAX:3 already! :D

    • Arizato

There are people that actually enjoyed those games besides the obvious fanservice?

I curse the day I bought DoAX2. I could’ve burned the money and it would have brought me more enjoyment than that monstrosity.

      • MrSirFeatherFang

I’ve been playing that recently… someone made a save editor and saved me 600+ hours of unnecessary work :D

        • Arizato

That requires a modded console though. Since injecting the save and whatnot cannot be done with regular consoles. Or better yet, just download the fanmade nude mod and you are all set to go. Porn.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

            Actually… no. I don’t have a modded console :D
You can find it very easy with a google search. Have fun!
edit: you edit your own save, not taking someone else’s save.

  • Brion Valkerion

I made the Momoji 3D mouse pad joke too many times and now it actually exists. Guess that means I need to buy it @.@

    • Testsubject909

You might have some difficulties with that.

I can find the Kasumi Blue singular pretty easily but haven’t found much of the Momiji Red singular collection for import.

The Ultimate Limited Edition Kasumi Blue & Momiji Red collection can be found with relative ease, but that’s an expensive as all hell bit there.

Consider the base price is already set at 25,000Yen with the current exchange rate will easily go in the 300+$, add in import duty, taxes and shipping and you’re easily looking to pay in the upwards of getting a PS4-equivalent.

  • Nitraion

    I don’t need that….
when F2P DOA5 gonna be released? or full game released.. -_-

  • supervamp

Meanwhile i’m too busy getting my ass kick to care about the bouncing chest in front of me.

  • サレム

I’d pay more for a Hitomi Special Edition

    • Testsubject909

      Yo!

  • Skode

Where is my Rachel 3D mousepad? Im a sad panda

  • Darkrise

    What, no Ayane!?

  • Vincent Rutherford

This is the true definition of “sex sells”.
