Tales of Xillia 2 Is Coming To The West In 2014

By Ishaan . July 6, 2013 . 8:30am

Tales of Xillia 2 is headed to Europe, Namco Bandai announced at the Japan Expo in France this morning. Namco are targeting a 2014 release for the game.

Prior to that, Namco Bandai will release Tales of Xillia this August in North America and Europe.

Tales of Xillia 2 features a new protagonist named Ludger, and a girl named Elle. Characters from the first Tales of Xillia, including Jude and Milla, return as well.

    Get. Hype!

  • AoNoise

    F*cking A :DDD

    *Is squealing like a fangirl*

  • Smooosh

Got a PS3 just for Xillia. I usually rented one if I wanted to play a PS3 exclusive, only owned an Xbox prior to that. Such great news, can’t wait!

    • kenshee

I can’t say it was just for xillia, but I did also get a ps3 with it in mind recently, so xillia 2 confimred…

So right now, ps3 has graces f already out with xillia, xillia 2 AND the symphonia collection all coming? The ps3 will be my tales machine :)
Man, at this point they might as well still release vesperia, most of the translation’s done anyways, haha. (loved it on 360, everyone should be able to play that game ^^)

Writing this, I realize, I still need to get graces f…
Assuming xillia 2 will be coming early 2014, I have 5 console tales games ahead of me in the span of just 1 year? Oh jeez.

Thinking about it, the next year is pretty Jrpg heavy overall.

From the look of things, I’m not getting a ps4 any time soon. (unless XV comes out, screw logic and patience then XD)

      • LightZero

They already confirmed that Vesperia PS3 isn’t coming over. Best to forget about it and settle for the 360 version. If you want it so badly then import it. However, Vesperia PS3 will not happen. The best you can hope is an enhanced port for the 3DS’ successor. Maybe then it would have a shot.

        • kenshee

Ah, well, as I owned a 360 and not a ps3 I never really cared so I didn’t follow the news around it, was just hoping for non 360-owners. Kind of weird they actually outright stated they won’t bring it over…

Or maybe I just got used to SE a little too much, lol, PR speak that means nothing at all. (type-0 *grumbles*)

Also, the thought of a (future) DS that supports ps3 level quality kind of boggles my mind. It’s realistic, and shouldn’t weird me out, but it does ‘^^

  • Selcca

Okay. I’ll admit, that was kind of a surprise (considering Xillia hasn’t even been released yet).

    • Courtney Levi Osborn

the pre-orders are outrageous for X1 is what I hear

      • Selcca

That’s the thing. They must have been outrageous in order for namdai to even budge for localization. If they weren’t it would be preposterous to have planned X2 based on measly intangible preorders.

      • Crimson_Cloud

You mean the fans are doing their job. Nice!

  • JMaster3000

*waiting for Digimon Re Digitize Decode*

    • Courtney Levi Osborn

      me too….

    • Rogerrmark

Maybe they made the 3DS version with the intention to localize it. Hoping as well.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

More games with hot springs is nice…
I wonder how much all the DLC for this game costs in Japan…

  • DrtyBird

Interesting. Would that mean ToX preorders alone sealed the deal?

  • Chris Yuen

I’m surprised. When I heard that Hideo Baba had something to announce, II actually thought I’ll be hearing about localization of the Tales of titles for the Vita. Confirmation for the 2nd Xillia episode is mighty nice too. Namco Bandai have been on a roll lately.

    • GH56734

Sorry to ruin the fun for you, but Baba said no Vita localizations earlier this year for ToI: R and ToH: R.
      Hoping this change soon :(
(But at least no Tales of Detiny 2 PS2 scenario :D )

    • LightZero

Things went as I predicted. I figured they would announce Xillia 2. Hearts and Innocence R won’t be localize as they already confirmed. The Vita is selling like crap in the west.

  • Leon_Tekashi

Wow, that was fast. Hideo Baba really DOES care about his fanbase in US and EU now. Keep it up! You have our support! *thumbs up* =)

  • Duo Maxwell

Bandai, remember that Symphonia with dual voice option? Yeah, we would love that in our Xillia 2.

    • akai

If it doesn’t have dual audio , I won’t buy.

    • Tyler Beale

      And/or Xillia 1 via a free DLC/patch.

      • 果林

    • Kai2591

I shall wait for a Japanese voice option..no matter how long it takes! :)

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Glorious pick up. This is pretty phenomenal news.

  • 果林

so many tales game within such a short time frame…won’t be bored for a while

  • 紅蓮

I remember getting hyped about this, and got bored in the middle of the game. The pace is bad and I really hate how they changed the color balance when the party is in the alternate dimension. Before anyone asked: Yes, I played the Japanese version, stopped in the middle and has no intention to finish it.

  • AuraGuyChris

It’s like they’re pretty confident about the prequel being a huge hit.

    • Leon_Tekashi

I see what he’s trying to do. He’s trying to hype up people about Xillia 2 so that they will buy 1 to see what happens first and it will increase sales. In a way, it’s a business strategy.

  • Courtney Levi Osborn

  • Hatsuaki

It’s great that Namco has been announcing and localizing Tales titles so quickly. We caught up to Japan when it comes to the latest release, at long last!

    • Farid Belkacemi

Not yet, it’s coming in 2014 after all :p

  • Maxwell3000

    Dear Namco Bandi/ Tales studio,

We love you and take our money.

    Thank you.

    • KingGunblader

If they keep on announcing Tales localizations at this pace I won’t have any more money for them to take. :D

    • Spirit Macardi

I can’t exactly say I love them yet, since Namco still has a LOT to make up for, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

      • Pyrotek85

Personally I try not to hold grudges against companies (not saying that you are). You have to remember they’re a collection of people, many of which change over time, sometimes so much so that it’s not even really the same company anymore.

        • Spirit Macardi

To an extent I agree, though when certain patterns continue to persist over numerous years then it’s most likely the same people making the calls.

I’d honestly love it if Namco could turn itself around. They should be my favorite company, since they’ve made some of my favorite games of all time, but when they then proceed to screw over so many of those things I love it’s hard not to feel betrayed.

But again, this story bodes well for the time being. Just forgive me for not being ready to give them my full trust yet.

          • Pyrotek85

Agreed. Some companies will persistently act like jerks and they don’t deserve any sales. Basically what I don’t like is when people don’t reward them with sales when they start doing good things, since money is really what they understand. But if they haven’t changed though, then yes of course keep boycotting them lol.

I’m hoping they continue to see markets outside of Japan as viable.

  • SupaPhly

  • KingGunblader

We all knew this was coming, but glad to hear it’s official!

  • hunterrnl

It seems my last 3 PS3 games are Tales games :). I already have Xillia 1 and 2 , but i will buy them again! :D

Hopefully Xillia 1 DLC will work on Xillia 2 , just like with the JP versions :D.

    • Slayven19

I don’t see why it wouldn’t since its part of the games programming. for it to work. Although they could remove it but Its very doubtful that they will.

  • Go2hell66

    Namco plz… Stahp!

    • Anime10121

No, dont ever STAHP, GO GO GO!!!! :D

  • Letiumtide

Sweet, I’m super excited and happy that we’re getting it. I was worried that it may be one that got left in Japan.

  • ZEROthefirst

Nice, surprised it’s getting localized so soon, but it’s great either way.

Now how about some Innocence/Hearts R love over here :D

  • Blackburn7

I just recently bought a PS3 in order to play all these tasty exclusives including Tales of Xillia and BlazBlue CP. Getting a confirmation for a western X2 release just made me really, REALLY happy. The only thing that’s left now in order to max out my happiness bar is a Drakengard 3 release confirmation. Please, SE, if you could be so kind <3

  • Magus KilIer

This was as unexpected as it was awesome

  • ragingmerifes

    Based Bamco

  • Tenetan

Only news who can surpase this now is that they will make it dual audio!

    • Firekitty

It would be lovely to hear, but I’m betting we’ll have to wait for the next ‘new’ game for that. ToS was probably able to include it since it’s still in development, but Xillia 2 probably just needs a translation and dub dropped in; seems unlikely they’d bother programming any additional features, especially since the first game didn’t have it.

  • Nitraion

In the end this just another great news to me…
if only they set the release date already

  • Nyandroid

Wow! That was completely unexpected! I really didn’t think they would announce the second one before the first has even come out! Really happy about this, as I was more interested in Xillia 2!

  • And, now, I will look forward to 2014 with another ‘Tales of’ title among other titles. Can’t wait!

  • Figuring out what to buy, looks like I’m getting Xillia 1 sooner than I thought. Don’t have Graces yet thank you Namco for not making this entire series connected.

  • Was that the big news that baba was teasing about?

  • Raltrios
    • SoundMatch

I have a feeling I will be seeing more of these in the coming months.

    • Surgeon of Death

      Meanwhile in the Persona universe….

    • Surgeon of Death

      Meanwhile in the Persona universe….

  • artemisthemp

I really hope this wasn’t Baba big surprise, because I was expecting this.

  • Kamakuma

…. Region locked? If not I’ll be pre-ordering then get it again once it’s available in the states. x’3

    • Chris Yuen

With the exception of Persona 4 Arena, I don’t think there’s any PS3 games out there that is region-locked.

      • Pyrotek85

I believe that’s the case as well. I’m actually a little surprised it went for so long without any developers/publishers implementing it.

    • Anime10121

It’ll be released in the states first. Do remember that the original Xillia was also announced at Japan Expo, but we still get it first.

  • Maybe I need to cancel my preorder on PS4. So much great PS3 games will be released later this year and in the next one.

  • James Williams

Lovely collectors edition for europe again please :)?

  • Musashi234

Baba what are you doing?!?!?!? MY WALLET HATES ME ENOUGH!!!!!

  • Neophoton

    Keep being awesome, Bamco.

  • personablaze

when i saw this, i spit out my lunch and got it all over my laptop

    I’m freaking hype!

    • Nanaki

I too spit out my lunch all over your laptop.

      I was rather excited!

  • Ardus

Ah yes, a good RPG feeds my soul and Tales games rarely disappoint.

  • KyoyaHibari

Where’s North America? ~.~ I hope they announce it for North America too because Baba was saying there’s news or both regions on the 4th and 6th. On the 4th was just dual audio for Symphonia (yay…) and now we have Xillia 2 announced for Europe. I hope they assure us that Xillia 2 is coming to North America too because I don’t want to waste my money on Xillia 1. -_-

    • Chris Yuen

Uhh…if Europe is getting it, most likely North America will be getting it. If worse come to worst, import it? Tales of Xillia 2 isn’t region locked.

    • Nitraion

      Its PS3 you have there….

      • KyoyaHibari

Yes, but the PEGI logo perturbs me greatly and I would simply like a local release if it’s in my native language, it’s a compulsion of mine.

        • Nitraion

O you mean you like ESRB logo more than PEGI?….
what is your native language? english not common enough?
I usually buy EU version for tales games simply because it has best price cheaper than NA version and usually those day one edition come in EU version in my country….

  • Xillia

I just got a mini heart attack

  • XypherCode

    Damn yes!!

  • Spirit Macardi

Good job Namco, you did something right again.

Now start working on Klonoa 3 and all your past sins will be forgiven.

(Seriously, downvotes? What, for implying that this was a good move but they still need to show their other series some respect?)

  • r0gamer940

so were the pre-orders for xillia that good?

    • fireguardiancoty

Yeah. I wanna say that $100 Collector’s Edition really helped. It’s sold out everywhere.

  • Taylor Davis

Some me should had waited for the english release, but too late now. *laughs* Well at least it coming here for everyone else to play :).

  • Bobby Jennings

Namco, you never cease to amaze me. A Tales filled year huh, you were not lying! I’ll still be importing every single Tales that comes!

  • TWE

    Dear Diary,
Baba was not a jerk today.
    Love, TWE.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

now watch people ask for dual audio :/

    • It has already begun, even if indirectly.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        I seen….

    • Pyrotek85

Not that I wouldn’t like it as an option but I’m thankful that we can even get some of these in the first place. Importing doesn’t help me much when I don’t know the language, so I rely on a localization, as well as many others.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

Ahh yes I’m very happy that NAMCO BANWAGON is localizing games :D I’m a bit shocked mostly we would have to wait 2 years or so for a game or never

    • Qunton C.

And then scream “BOYCOTT!” when it doesn’t have it. Just like they did with Ayesha.

    • Firekitty

It would be nice, but given that this is a sequel to a game that didn’t have it, and WELL out of development, I won’t expect it.

I’ll save my voice for the next NEW game they release. They’ve displayed clear awareness of the desire for dual audio and the ability to make it happen…The usual excuses of VA contracts or the difficulty of programming it in are invalid if you’re going into the initial design phases knowing that these might crop up as issues later on.

  • Now THIS is what I call an announcement! You did what you should have, Baba. Well done.

  • Learii

keep them come to the west Namco I buy them all

  • SirRichard

They must be pretty confident in Xillia’s sales to announce the sequel before the first game’s even released, but that’s great news and it’s wonderful to see them pushing it as hard as they can. Looks like my PS3 won’t be packed away any time soon!

    • Pyrotek85

I had been hearing it was doing well but I was still slightly worried that we wouldn’t get the sequel somehow. Glad that won’t be an issue. This might even mean we’ll get more timely releases in the future too.

      • Solomon_Kano

Well, as of Xillia 2, we’ll be caught up with Japan’s releases, so I certainly think we’ll get more timely releases. Depending on when Xillia 2 releases next year, we may even see a simultaneous announcement of the next game (supposing they don’t opt for another HD collection to put some more time between mothership games).

    • TWE

Perhaps they had more than enough preorder numbers? I recall the initial collectors edition having to be reissued several times.

      • SirRichard

That seems to be the case, and they must be very impressive numbers indeed if they’re already jumping on the sequel. Good news all round, seems like.

  • Tarlol

All these big dudes are figuring out yeah, there is a market for their “Japanese” stuff over here. Exciting to watch!

  • passthegrenadeplease

Wow, this was out of the blue but awesome news nonetheless. The more JRPG’s that come over here, the merrier.

  • Great news for Tales and JRPG fans

  • XiaomuArisu

And people thought the ps3 would die after the ps4 announcment…
    Viva la tales

    • Anime10121

I have no idea why they EVER thought that to begin with, what with them (well the PS4) not being backwards compatible, the PS3 should have plenty of life left. Heck MGSV’s even gonna release on the thing, and with this announcement, its just Icing on the freaking cake! My PS3’s gonna be hooked under my TV for years to come, along with my PS4/Wii U, (sorry PS2/Wii, but unfortunately, you’re gonna have to go to the closet) :D

    • Pyrotek85

That was one of my concerns actually, that Xillia 2 wouldn’t get released because PS4 would be out by then. Thankfully I was wrong.

    • TWE

I remember the PS2 still had stuff coming out for it well into 2009~2010 – Persona 4 being one of the last go-to titles for the system around that time. Maybe it’ll be the same for the PS3? Who knows.

  • YoshEE

Hope they announce for U.S too >.<

  • Suriel Cruz

This means that the game WILL MOST LIKELY came out to North America, Yay!!!

  • First Tales of Xillia, Project X Zone, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles and now Xillia 2. Namco Bandai, you’re starting to become my #1 Game Developer & Publisher Company of all time.
If you’re also going to localize Super Robot Wars Original Generation games, then you’re truly the best game company ever!

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

You’d want to go to Atlus for that.

      • 1. Atlus is getting bankrupt.
        2. Namco Bandai owns the copyright of SRW games and according to SRW veterans, Atlus has implied that it’s out of their hands and that it’s up to Namco Bandai to decide.
Operation Hotblood and I will do everything we can do to convince Namco Bandai in localizing the OG games. Project X Zone already features some OG characters, so why not.

        • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Index is bankrupt. Atlus is merely a subsidiary and is doing fine.

You can try all you want, but honestly that series needs to do a lot to make itself work in the west since no one knows that the 1st two games were released on the GBAs last legs. Personally I don’t know if Namco can market a the series well enough to meet their expectations here in the US. Atlus however could do it.

          • Well, Super Robot Wars OGs2 has an event library which explains what happened in previous events. So there’s no problem concerning people being unable to understand the plot.
Well, Namco Bandai can surely market the game. It’s not just a mecha games, it’s also a RPG, full of tactics, interesting characters, anime visuals, amazing animations, Kamen Rider elements, et cetera.
We just have to convince them that a lot of people would love to see such a game coming to the west.

  • transferstudentx

wow just wow i am so failing college next year

    • Gilgamesh2025

      Oh yeah, me too! xD

  • Jesse
    • YoshEE

Sweet!!! Can’t wait til they are available for pre-order now! Oh and thanks for the info :D

  • Masa

Wow, do Namco Bandai have some a new person in charge or something?
An Angel perhaps? So happy right now. *Hugs random person on street*

    *Send from phone*

  • Haze

Can we get Tales of Vesperia for ps3 now? Tales sales on ps3 are proven at this point. I want the tales vita games but there’s no way they’ll consider it until the vita takes off in NA.

    • Chris Yuen

From one of Tales Of’s official Twitter accounts: “Your Tales of… ‏@TalesofU

@projectamnesia you can stop wishing for Vesperia PS3 right now I can tell you that! You can however expect amazing things for the future :)”

They also said that before on the Tales Series page on Facebook.

Hey, at least their transparency is refreshing…unlike Sega…they can’t even give us a clear answer on Valkyria Chronicles 3.

  • Sentsuizan_93

    “Oh yes. OH GOD YESSSSSS!!!”

      • Slayven19

He game you the exact game and character it was from.

      • AuraGuyChris

Part from a skit where Judith is practically wondering out loud if she should wear her maid outfit in a more suggestive manner, which causes Raven’s skit box to tumble over as he imagines it.

  • DesmaX

I was expecting this announcement after Xillia release.

Sweet, one more game for me to buy

  • MB_cl

Namco, if you´re reading this…Thank you.

  • epy

Three Tales games to be released in the following year. If we had listened to the people that told to stop whining about Tales games back then…

  • Demeanor

Guys, unrelated to the topic but I can’t keep this to myself! I just returned from the Miku conference at JE2013 in Paris and the CEO of Crypton announced a Summer release (exact date tba) for the English version of the Vocaloid software. Name is Hatsune Miku English and they showed a demo. They also want us to register at mikubook/findme to learn about where fans are located, to plan concerts.

    • Demeanor

And to keep a semblance of topic I bought the vol 1 of the ToX manga and the attendant was cosplaying as Elle ^ ^ hat and one eyed backpack and all

      • Maumac77

Naw. They’re all from Japan. Connection established :p

(seriously though I need a link to what you’re stating so I can accomplish the task once I return from job things)

        • Demeanor

Since I’m on vacation I dont have my pc with me (just my Galaxy) and all the material (pics, videos) is in my digital cam.i daresay you’ll hear the news explosion soon enough though XD

  • Maumac77

This is good news, expected but still good. Having it so close to the first title as far as announcements should also mean that the cast should stay intact and not change as from Symphonia 1 & 2. Also gives more of a reason to convince my buddies to buy the first game as well since some preferred the second

  • Will John

It just says Europe, is US getting it too?

    • It’s only because Baba was in France when he made the announcement so of course confirmation Europe would be known – wait for Namdai US to make their own announcement. There is no reason to doubt it coming to the US.

    • Jesse

Yes, the US is getting it, too.

  • mike dickson

finally this game is getting localized all aboard the hype train

  • Herlo Rerelo

nice, so it’s localized now, just like the 1st Xillia!!!!!!!! can’t wait for them to localize Xillia 3 when it comes too, then they release all of them at once on 2020… ?

  • darkfox1

Hype certainly buying when it hits the US

  • Anime10121

Man, Japan Expo has almost gotten the “big” game show status when it comes to announcements this year!

Tales of Mother fricken Xillia 2!!! This one looks FAR more interesting than the first (and I’m extremely interested in the first already)!! Love the character designs, a lot more in the sequel!

    …>Foams in the mouth.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

  • I bow unto thee, Namco. Thank you so very much!

  • kaizin

woot great news since i bought the jap version of this going to pick up this when it comes out so please take my wallet I wont take no for answer.

  • Slayven19

While this is good news people please still buy the first Tales of Xillia. If people try and skip out on the first game just to play the second that would still send the wrong message to namco.

  • XenonVincentPlus

Tales of Symphonia HD pack and Tales of Xillia 1 AND 2!?!! Namco Bandai you are so awesome!! I can’t wait for all the Tales of goodness! =D

  • Freud_Hater

  • cloudcaelum

    Hell, it’s about time!

  • Crimson_Cloud

I’m not used to all this Namco love. I feel strange… <3

    • Slayven19

Its hitting us to fast, we weren’t ready :0.

  • Kitestwinblades

Can we just Officially brand 2013 as the year of Incredible localization announcements? We’re literally just passing the half-year mark and they just confirmed something before the first game is even out in NA xD
Everyone, Ready your wallets for the next preorder!

    • Lynx

We just need a Demonbane 1.5 announcement from JAST and Namco to announce OG2nd. It most definitely will be then. Those’d be miracles, like this.

  • Tatsuya1221

Looks like Namco-Bandai is competing with atlus and marvelious-xseed for my favorite third party ^_^.

Soon as it comes up for preorder, my wallet will be ready.

  • Ladius

Can’t wait to finally enjoy Xillia next month, knowing that Xillia 2 is already being worked on makes the first entry even more compelling to play.

  • Donatetimo

Nice, guess they weren’t kidding when they said bring tale over to the west faster.

  • Hau To

This is kind of not true in a sense. If it was truly coming to the US, I can understand the title, but the article is about it coming to Europe. Kind of misleading. If there is no information yet of it coming to the US, I’ll keep my hype to myself until further notice.

    • Arrei

If it’s coming to Europe, it’s coming to NA, no doubts about it.

There’s the fact that translating for Europe requires English plus additional languages, which means an NA version is created along the way.

And there’s the part where they’re using U.S. voice actors.

And then there’s the fact that even without a domestic release, we are able to import it and play it in English with no region locks on most PS3 software.

Edit: Also Abyssal Chronicles said they mentioned NA during the conference, even though the picture only says Europe on it since, you know, European event.

  • Erikdayo

Now please bring over the Vita remakes. Pleeeease. :)

  • Omg omg omg omg Yes! I mean part of me KINDA knew it, but the other part was much louder and doubted it. The happiness cannot be contained.

  • I guess my purchase of Xillia did something! My god I’m so stoked. And I just got the JP version a week ago. However… I just see Europe. NA?

  • Freud_Hater

Just noticed something… Might just be me who’s retarded, I guessm but the article itself doesn’t seem to say Xillia 2 will be released in NA but rather in Europe. It only says it’ll come to the West in the title… but it IS coming to the West, right?!

  • This weekend is just full of great news! =^_^=
