Nintendo Pushes Shin Megami Tensei IV And Fire Emblem: Awakening With $30 Credit

By Ishaan . July 9, 2013 . 10:00am

Update: Nintendo have confirmed to Siliconera that you simply need to have Fire Emblem: Awakening registered by August 31st to be eligible for the promotion. It doesn’t matter when you bought and registered that game, so early buyers are in on the promotion, too.

Nintendo are promoting two Nintendo 3DS RPGs via Club Nintendo—the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening, which was released earlier in the year. If you register both games on Club Nintendo in North America by August 31st, you’ll receive $30 of credit for the Nintendo eShop.

Here’s how it works—both Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening come with Club Nintendo codes inside their boxes. You need to register both games on the service and fill out their registration surveys by August 31st. If you buy them digitally, and your 3DS is linked up to your Club Nintendo account, they’ll automatically get registered, but you’ll still have to go to Club Nintendo and fill their surveys out.

It sounds like this isn’t just for recent Fire Emblem: Awakening buyers, but for those of us that already own the game as well. Nintendo mention that, in the event that you purchased the Fire Emblem: Awakening Nintendo 3DS bundle earlier this year, you’ll need to link that specific 3DS to your Club Nintendo account to qualify for the promotion. We’ve gotten in touch with Nintendo to confirm.

You can find more details on the promotion here.

While there’s no connection between Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening, Nintendo and Atlus are collaborating on a crossover RPG for Wii U, titled Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

  • School Idol Addict

I was going to skip Shin Megami Tensei IV since i wasn’t interested enough in that game to spent 50$ on it, but now because of this i might buy that game.

    • Ying

This is what I’m thinking of doing. It’s 30 extra dollars I could spend on another game down the road

      • dragoon_slayer12

Exactly my case. I already have $40 on my account for zelda and pokemon, So me spending an extra $40-$50 gets me 2 games plus I still have my funds for those games (I put $20 a month into my account)

    • Kaihaku

I had fun with the first Shin Megami Tensei when I played it back in the day on the SNES but my tolerance for first person dungeons has decreased drastically since then… So I was going back and forth on SMT4, this pretty much seals the deal for me provided that it does support older Fire Emblem Awakening registrations.

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

    Yayayayayayayayay! Oh, also, yay!

  • Corey Owens

“Nintendo mention that, in the event that you purchased the Fire Emblem: Awakening Nintendo 3DS bundle earlier this year, you’ll need to link that specific 3DS to your Club Nintendo account to register the game.”

I’ve been looking for this information, thank you!

    • MrSirFeatherFang

I did do that but I never got my survey… oh well I was going to buy the game again physically again, but it seems like I’ll have to do it a lot sooner.

      • Corey Owens
        • MrSirFeatherFang

Yup, that’s exactly what I did. Don’t worry about it, it might have to do with the fact that I clicked on “plan to buy Fire Emblem” before buying this bundle.

          • Corey Owens

Hmm, I didn’t get a survey for it either. Maybe you don’t need to fill one out for the bundle.

edit: I got a survey for the actual 3DS, but nothing about Fire Emblem.

          • Here’s the exact wording:

“If you purchased the Fire Emblem: Awakening hardware bundle, you must link your Nintendo 3DS system to your Club Nintendo account and complete the registration survey for Shin Megami Tensei IV to qualify for the promotion.”

So I guess they just need to see the bundle, not the game itself.

        • Sardorim

          Very informative, thank you.

  • Raltrios

I was also going to skip SMTIV, but if this means it’s essentially only $20 or so thanks to the credit I may give it a look after all.

  • Chris Yuen

Both are amazing games, and I would have brought both…$30 credit promotion or not. Awesome deal for those living in the US/Canada.

  • Sardorim

Sucks as my FE:A is Digital… Well, I’ll see about getting it registered to my Club Nintendo still.

    • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

Digital games automatically link to your Club Nintendo account, if you have one connected.
If you didn’t have one when you bought it though … Sorry <3

      • Sardorim

I see… Shame, I threw out my box so long ago that I don’t have my pin anymore only my serial code that’s on the back.

Looking around it seems my Digital Game will be registered 7 days after my registration to Club Nintendo.

Siiigh… I may end up getting an XL after all and transfer my FE:A and the such stuff over.

  • TruSpindash

Already owned Fire Emblem and planing to pick up SMT IV, so this is just free money for me, time to look into some good eshop games.

    • Surgeon of Death

Already own FE and am happily awaiting SMT IV from amazon. And it would seem to be money well spent. :)

    • Sakurazaki

      Alike circumstances unite!

    • Totafan888

Don’t forget to leave some for SMT IV’s DLCs :)

    • Same for me! *High Five*

  • Manny Being Manny

Does it count if you already registered Fire Emblem a while ago?

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      sounds like it

    • School Idol Addict

I can’t be 100% sure, but i’m pretty sure it don’t matter when the games was registered as long as it’s before 8/31.

    • celery

      Yes! ^U^

The bottom of the Club Nintendo promotion page:

“Already registered Fire Emblem Awakening? Simply register Shin Megami Tensei IV by August 31 to qualify for this offer.” :D

  • Go2hell66

wow such a nice deal, hope they do something similar for europe soon

  • Mayjay

Pretty amazing promotion, especially considering that both games are AAA titles instead of one of them being something you’d have never bought otherwise. Now I’ve just got to sit and wait patiently for my copy of SMT IV to arrive.

  • Herok♞

So a free $30 for a game I own and one I plan to own thank you nintendo you are awesome

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Good Guy Nintendo

  • Ethan_Twain

It is possible that this $30 is enough to entice me to finally make a club Nintendo account. I’ve been buying their software and hardware for years now, but it’s usually my preference to steer clear of these types of customer reward programs.

But $30 is a lot of money. Enough that I could buy a game that wasn’t previously in the budget. Maybe sit on it for pokemon? Maybe get the new Etrian Odyssey? The possibilities are enticing.

    • Izzy Miyake

The hardware gets a 90 day extension and all you need to do is fill out some quick surveys to get free gifts. All the items ship free of charge and they offer monthly downloadable titles and some neat exclusive items. Its a pretty awesome site. People complain that the rewards aren’t as good as Japan’s, but considering they could just not give us anything at all I’m happy as a clam.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        Europe got those Xenoblade Coins…

        • Farid Belkacemi

You forgot to mention THE artbook :D

And there were 3 coins : one for Xeno and the other two for The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower ;)

      • Sardorim

If you don’t register your 3DS within a certain time you will be excluded from the 90 day extension. Just a fair warning to those that bought a launch 3DS and didn’t register yet.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Why would you not have a Club Nintendo account? Its the best thing ever and its free. They give me posters, hanafuda cards and 3DS cases while I go coin hunting XD

      • Sardorim

I was lazy and forgot to make one when I got my 3DS… Missed out on the 160 free coins as I lost the pin that comes in your 3DS box when you purchase it. XD

    • Ying

Do it! The only annoying this is the surveys, but I’m planning on just sitting on those 30 dollars until Link Between Worlds comes out

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I like the surveys. Im a little annoyed that my Kingdom Hearts survey went away ._. and the one I did for Virtues Last Reward .-.

        • Ying

I find them a nuisance really but to each his/her own :)

    • dragoon_slayer12

I was like you, but I decided to say fuck it 2 years ago anditit’s been beneficial with all those gifts and what not. I hit platinum status in 3 months time, so this is something I wish I joined when it was first formed. Surveys are repetitive, but the rewards are cool, especially the timed exclusives.

    • Yeah dude, Club Nintendo is a pretty great setup. All you have to do is fill out the dumb product surveys and you basically get free Nintendo games in return. The only other headache is trying to decide when to spend your coins on a game you *kinda* want or hold out for next month’s selection.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        Or on memorabilia

    • Actually, Yesshua, I think you in particular would probably like Club Nintendo, since it’s the one place we know for sure Nintendo’s devteams look at for feedback from fans. Rewards aside, it’s the most direct way to have your voice be heard, through filling out their surveys.

      • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

Wait, they actually read them?! I’ve just been typing in random letters, and now I feel bad :(

      • AuraGuyChris

That place changed Paper Mario: Sticker Star for the worst in terms of plot.
Seriously, who the hell complained about previous plots?

        • Warboss Aohd

I didn’t, hell a guy who dislikez JRPGs (Yahtzee Crowshaw) liked da first 2 Paper Mario gamez an’ did NOT like wot dey did ta Sticker Star.

      • Ethan_Twain

I had no notion that movers and shakers at Nintendo ever looked at Club Nintendo surveys. Indeed, I assumed that the program existed solely to collect and sell customer information. Maybe I’m too cynical. Based on your feedback, I plan on making a club Nintendo account sooner rather than later. Thanks!

And also: I really appreciate that you personalized what you said to me and my comment history. That you’ve read my comments over the past years and have some notion of my predispositions is what makes Siliconeraa special. You’re the best, Ishaan.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Thats awesome!!! thanx Nintendo

  • Ben Sylvia

Oh if only I had the time and money for SMT4.

Oh well, back to playing Animal Crossing.

  • Izzy Miyake

Its like they want to give us all the money to pick up DLC :)

    • Totafan888

      And I ain’t even mad :P

  • Lightthrower

Can we register Fire emblem if we bought it on the eShop?

    • PersonaSpace

Only if you remembered to before the survey expired. Mine did, so I’ll be calling up Nintendo.

      • Let us know what you find out?

        • PersonaSpace

Called Nintendo and gave them my info after explaining the situation to them. They said someone with administration would contact me in 1-2 days. So I’m not enthusiastic that they’ll re-enable my survey for me.

        • PersonaSpace

Good news! I was contacted again and Nintendo reactivated the survey for me! However they also told me this was a one time exception, and if I forget to do a survey again I’m out of luck. So lesson learned there.

So a reminder to everyone who buys games on the eShop: You have only one week to complete your registration survey.

          • How did you get them to reactivate the survey for you? I e-mailed them, and I’m still waiting to hear back…

          • PersonaSpace

You’re better off calling the number found here
Just calmly explain that you didn’t know you only had 1 week to complete eShop surveys and that you would like to finish yours so you’re eligible for the upcoming promotion.

BTW Love your name and avatar. Hibiki is the best idol

          • This is the response I got via e-mail:

Thanks for contacting us. I can confirm that you will qualify for the Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem Awakening Promotion as long as both games are registered to your Club Nintendo account before August 31, 2013. While we’re unable to
reinstate an expired survey (which earns you Coins), this will not prevent you from being eligible for the $30 Nintendo eShop credit.

So, apparently, you don’t NEED to fill out the survey. And if they try to say I do now, I’ll just throw this e-mail back at them. 8D I also called and they put in an admin ticket, so…who knows. Either way, I sound covered.

tl;dr Thank you so, so, so much for your help! And I’m flattered. [email protected] is indeed a lot of fun and Hibiki is forever the top idol.

          • I got an e-mail saying that I’m still eligible despite missing the survey! So I think that’s good news for a lot of people.

Thank you so, so much for your help. I did call them and they put an admin ticket on my account so it sounds like I’m pretty covered!

And yes, [email protected] is a lot of fun and Hibiki is awesome. You totally made my day (and yesterday) with all your help.

          • PersonaSpace

Yeah, the kind woman over the phone also told me that I didn’t need to actually fill out the survey, as the game was automatically registered when I bought it on the eShop. However I pointed out that all the fine print and promo materials said that filling out the registration survey was required as well. She probably reinstated it just to get me to relax or something. Either way, I talked to her supervisor afterwards and told him she did a great job.

      • Sardorim

Be sure to include the date you digitally purchased the game as well, it should be recorded on your 3DS’s activity log.

  • ragingmerifes

God damn. I am going to buy SMT IV, but Fire Emblem is so expensive I won’t be able to enjoy this promotion.
The tears of not being able to buy Liberation Maiden with bonus cash…

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      …. Just buy Fire Emblem.

      • ragingmerifes

But… I live in a third world country… it was too expensive last time I checked. I mean, the equivalent to 80 dollars.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

You wont be able to enjoy the promotion anyway then

    • Guest

Expensive? It’s 40 dollars on the Gamestop website compared to SMT IV’s 50 XD

    • Ying

What do you mean Fire Emblem is expensive? It’s 40 dollars which is 10 less then SMT IV.

  • Maumac77

Completely forgot to register my FE:A 3DS and just did so, unfortunately I didn’t receive a survey either. Maybe it’s because I transferred everything from my old 3DS to this one?

    • Brandonmkii

it usually takes a few days or a couple weeks for the survey to show up. If you did it today you should get the survey before the deadline of the deal.

  • AuraGuyChris

So in a way, you’re paying $9 dollars for one game.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Or getting free DLC and some other stuff

  • Wait, so you have to fill out both of the surveys? I just went to fill out the survey for FE:A and was told my chance to fill it out expired. =/ I guess I waited too long, but that sure doesn’t sound like “It sounds like this isn’t just for recent Fire Emblem: Awakening buyers” if it means digital purchasers who don’t normally fill out surveys missed their chance.

It looks like people who bought it at launch had until March 6th to do the survey…

    • RoxasTheUnknown1

I bought my copy on launch and just took the survey now. probably something on their end.

      • Was your copy digital, though? Just checking.

        • RoxasTheUnknown1

Physical. Im just realizing you explicitly meant digital. My bad.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

          Post Play survey or registration?

  • Erikdayo

This is awesome. I have FE:A and will be getting SMTIV on launch. Free $30 for me. :)

  • Magoo111

    Sweet. Free money.

  • Pretty awesome deal. Though notice that it’s SMT and Fire Emblem they’re pushing. Hmmhm.

  • RisukuAozora

I still need to get FE:A, but damn if this isn’t some great incentive to get it.

  • Luke

I’d been undecided on SMT but since I already have FE I’ve been sold haha :P. I look at this as a $30 discount as most new releases have an eshop release aswell.

  • ElAbuelo69

  • No tipoff credit? ;_;

  • Nyandroid

Sweet! I never did get Unchained Blades and this is the perfect opportunity!!

    • SetzerGabbiani

Nice choice. The game is stupid hard, but I stuck it out. The music is pretty good and the ability acquisition system is decent. The only problem I had with the game were the Judgement battles and the monster assists that are generally worthless unless they absorb a blow for you.

  • Lavitz

“Already registered Fire Emblem Awakening? Simply register Shin Megami Tensei IV by August 31 to qualify for this offer.”

  • benhofb

AHAHAHAH! YES! Thank you for the wonderful birthday present, Nintendo!

  • Already got FE:A, so that would mean… SMT4 would essentially cost only 20$?

    • Skye Johnson

Technically, you could think of it that way, though the money credit you receive doesn’t go towards SMTIV (except DLC, if that’s how you choose to use it). It’s more like the next game you buy will cost you 30 dollars less.

      • Yes, I’m aware, which is why I said “essentially”. It means I’d be left with a 30$ credit in my eShop wallet after everything’s said and done, right?

  • mojack411

Yay free money! Hope this is a sign we’ll be hearing more about that crossover game soon.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I been waiting to buy FE and was intending on getting SMT IV at a later date, but I can’t deny free money for getting games I was gonna get anyways, just at an earlier date.

  • Repede91

I wasn’t going to pick up SMT IV; but since I can get it for basically $10, I’ll pick it up.

  • laurenhiya21

Ah too bad I can’t afford any new games right now, since my bf let me register his copy of Fire Emblem on my Club Nintendo, so I would just need SMT IV :< (I guess I'll just have to hope that he's interested in getting it :P)

  • Ramón Navas

I just need to find where I can buy FEA in Venezuela and I’m ready to go

  • Lazulis

This is totally promotion for the SMT x FE game. Most definitely.

    • Ferofax

      Effective promotion, dare I say.

  • Zeik56

That’s basically like getting a free copy of Ace Attorney 5!

    • PandaTurtle

I totally did not think of that! Crap… now I’m conflicted! Do I use the $30 on AA5, a game I’m anticipating? Or use it to try out some of the smaller 3DSware titles?

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Or do you put it on you’re WiiU…

    • Haha! I was thinking the same thing! That or Rune Factory 4 for me… Can’t decide (>_< )

  • I knew jumping on Fire Emblem was a good idea. Now I really can’t wait for SMT IV :)

  • Cool cant wait i got FE:A just need too pick up my pre order copy of shin 4

  • i was on the fence about SMT IV, but since i own fire emblem, its like getting it for 30 dollars…sounds like a deal to me.

  • Warboss Aohd

if it encourages Fire Emblem and SMT sales, it’s a good thing.

  • shuyai

hopefullly europe get similar offer as well.
i am still waiting for Fire emblem to price drop

  • 3PointDecoupage

That’s pretty awesome since I missed out on their last free game promotion by like a month. And it makes the 50 dollar price tag seem less horrible. Now to decide what to spend 30 bucks on…

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Its not that horrible. The game has at least 100 hours of content in it. It also comes with a 176 page book, the soundtrack and slip case

  • Exkaiser

Well, jeez, I hope I filled out the product registration survey back when I bought Fire Emblem… I’m so lax with the Club Nintendo surveys.

    • Nyandroid

It is possible to view your To-Do History. Just sign in to your Club Nintendo, go to Earn Coins, and click on your To-Do History link that’s just below your list of things to-do.

  • I have a question: I plan on getting a 3DS for my birthday and these are exactly the two games I am interested in. I would like to buy the digital copies but I won’t have the console by then. Anybody here know what I can do so that I get the $30 before September starts? Thanks in advance!

    • You’re out of luck, I’m afraid. You would need to already own the 3DS and have it linked to Club Nintendo for the digital copies of those games to show up on there.

      • Thanks for the advice. I’ll be lucky if I get them earlier and I’ll try to register ASAP.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

You have until 8/31 to register them both so it’ll be fine

          • I was actually planning on getting them via E-Shop so Ishaan is right. The physical copy is tempting though but I’m trying to save a little. I generally get my birthday presents earlier anyways because my birthday’s right around the beginning of my college semester.

    • You should really consider the physical copy of SMT IV instead anyways in this case. It comes with a gorgeous, huge artbook/strategy guide and soundtrack CD.

  • Skye Johnson

Definitely a cunning marketing strategy on Nintendo’s part. It’s a good way to get people potentially excited for SMT x FE and get people to try out the franchise. People might also potentially use the $30 to buy DLC for FE/SMTIV, so there’s another positive outcome for Nintendo.

This is a very generous offer. And they’re both such good games. (Or, in SMTIV’s case, appears to be.) This also be a good reason why they made each of these games more accessible than their predecessors. (Casual mode/easier difficulties.)

In any case, that $30 is greatly appreciated, and I think it will help Nintendo in the long run. And Atlus, too, I bet.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      SMTIV plays like a dream.

  • resuri

Glad I didn’t use my FE:A CN code yet… 30 dollars is quite big. :)
Edit: I think I misunderstood the post. I still can avail it even if I use the code already. :)) Nintendo and Altus are the best!!!!!

  • SetzerGabbiani

  • konsama

It sucks in mexico we keep getting north america club nintendo codes and stuff with all devices and games, but club nintendo don’t exist here.

Still, promo or not, i’m totally picking SMTIV

    • All you need is a US address. They won’t even need to use it unless you have them physically ship you goods. Just ask a friend or a relative or someone if you can list their address on file.

  • Sardorim

Okay, turns out if you bought the Digital Copy before registering on Club Nintendo you can e-mail support with this information and they’ll manually register your game in for you for the promotion. Note that you still need to register your 3DS first to Club Nintendo before contacting Support.

    Email address
    Country of Residence
    Nintendo 3DS serial number
Full name of the game titles to be registered]

  • Hinataharem

It just so happens that certain games went on sale on the eshop. Convenient

  • mojack411

I have a friend who bought the digital copy of the game before he registered his 3DS to a Club Nintendo account. Is it still possible for him to get the credit?

    • Totafan888

I’m pretty sure that he/she will have to call Nintendo’s customer support (1-800-255-3700). They should be able to help your friend register FE:Awakening to his/her Nintendo account. Hope things work out!

      • mojack411

Ok thanks! I’ll let him know!

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

As long as the registration survey came up and he did it then yes he qualifies

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, considering i have two FE: Awakening here.(With my cousins.^_^) Double SMT 4 here i come.^_^(Ohhhh boy, 60 bucks of free game.^_^)

  • Touche nintendo FE:A was highly anticipated and came at a time when not many games were releasing, so many people bought it and this helps ease people into smt iv 50$ price tag but in addition if you buy it physically you get nice bonuses and for people who each only planned to have one or the other would feel more enticed to get both.

  • Falco252

I seriously hope this will happen in Europe, bought FE:Awakening, and been planning to buy SMTIV since loooong ago, this plus your collector are making me jealous t_t

You really are lucky :p Free DLCs for both games is awesome.

(But that still was a really good move from Nintendo and Atlus)

  • King mogz

I have a feeling that it will be these 2 games combined in the upcoming SMT x FE game… SMT 4&SH takes place in the modern world and FE has the gate that can move between time (meaning they could end up in the modern world through this) :O

  • Angie :3

I’m gonna use some of my credit to get Denpa Men 2 ^___^

  • Ric Vazquez

This is a win-win situation for me since I already own and registered Fire Emblem Awakening and I pre-ordered Shin Megami Tensei IV over 3 months ago, free money for the win!

  • I already owned Fire Emblem and had SMT IV pre-ordered since months ago. I’ll probably use thos 30$ for SMT DLCs,

  • courte

So it has to be both copies new
