Ultra Street Fighter IV won’t just include new characters and balance changes, but new stages and modes as well. Capcom have confirmed that there will be six new stages added to the game: Pitstop 109, Mad Gear Hideout, Cosmic Elevator, Blast Furnace, Half Pipe, and Jurassic Era Research Facility.

In addition to new stages, the game will also include “brand new modes” and features that have yet to be detailed. They add that purchasing Ultra Street Fighter IV will also allow you to receive all previously released costume DLC for the Street Fighter IV series.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available in early 2014 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as a $15 downloadable add-on or $40 standalone game. Here are a few screenshots of the new characters:

Great game i’m sure, but the graphics are the only thing keeping me from buying SF 4…

    • NRool

Whilst I’m not particually fond of SF as a whole, the art style of this game is to me at least, just, really, really ugly.
Most characters (Males in particular) are overly muscular, have dopey looking faces and are barely over 5ft tall, it just … ugh.

      • Atmey

Art style is subjective matter, IMO SFIV did good blend of classic Japanese style art and western muscle guy, but I agree they could use less muscles (Honda and Dhalsim?), bishie-style art is a huge turn off for me.

        • Smooosh

Not a big fan of them either… I mean, the style itself is pretty cool imo. It’s the characters that kinda freak me out… especially those girls with legs twice as long as their upper body with muscles like Schwarzenegger.

          • RichyGaming

Exactly! Thats what I meant in my first comment. Look at Chun-Li’s crazy legs, they look like it went through extreme steroids. Aside from legs and huge eyes, I am interested in the battle mechanics. If they do make a Street Fighter V, i’d buy it in a heartbeat if I didn’t see creepy faces and hardcore six packs. Capcom mentioned a few months ago that they are interested in putting in more story for characters so lets see what happens.

          • Smooosh

Mhm, I can see where you are coming from.
My favourite fighting game franchise is BlazBlue, and while the mechanics are really deep, I also like it a lot because of the aesthetics tbqh. Seeing those detailed 2D-Sprites fighting each other with beautiful backgrounds and great special effects is always fun to watch, heh.

          • NRool

I personally was quite into Guilty Gear back in the day, but nowadays I tend to sway more to UMVC3 and my old favourites MK9 and now Injustice.

UMVC3 for me is possibly the prettiest fighting game ever made, it’s such a unique twist of comic book and 3D and just looks stunning no matter what you do.

          • Smooosh

Ahh yes, haven’t played UMVC3 yet, thanks for the reminder. Gotta decide on which system I’m going to get it.
To be honest, I was never a big fan of Mortal Kombat. Call me superficial, but I like my fighting games shiny, haha.
Not sure about Injustice, superheroes aren’t all that famous where I live. The demo was fun enough, although I’d love to be able to try out more characters first.

          • NRool

I kinda grew up with Mortal Kombat, and it just grew and grew on me as I got older and older (I am only 21 now, but still!) but I can see what you mean, Injustice is worth a try if you enjoyed the demo, you don’t have to know the characters to enjoy the mechanics.

As for UMVC3, a bit of a warning, online mode will be swamped with mostly good players (I do not fall into this category!)

          • Smooosh

Thanks for the reply and warning then, I’ll probably buy either UMVC3 or Injustice asap to get my fighting game fix. :)
Need something to play until BlazBlue Chronophantasm is released here in europe in 2027! ;P

UMVC3 seems really fun but hard to get into because of the fast-paced nature of the game. Looks like one wrong move WILL cost you the round if your opponent is good enough because of those insane combos.
Injustice on the other hand seems more like something I would enjoy from a gameplay perspective.

          • RichyGaming

UMVC3 is fun, but jesus christ if you play the game for the first time and think you’re gonna pwn some beginners get ready for a reality check e_o

          • RichyGaming

Its pretty damn flashy too. UMVC3 tournaments always have players flying all over the stages. It’s well made. But if you don’t know the attacks and combos, it’s kind of hard to know what’s going on due to all the assists and explosions (I fall into that category..)

          • RichyGaming

BlazBlue is my favorite fighting game. :)))

          • Mnstrzero00

Well in keeping with the tone of this thread I gotta way that blazblues aesthetics are all over the place. Ragna wears samurai pants and a coat with too short sleeves for example. Its all just really tacky to me but it does have its moments of what I consider cool. I do play blazblue though.

          • Ninastars

Personally I like how the characters actually look physically capable of fighting like that. There’s plenty of Japanese fighting game franchises out there where the characters look like clean anime characters so SF is a nice change of pace.

        • Smooosh

Not a big fan of them either… I mean, the style itself is pretty cool imo. It’s the characters that kinda freak me out… especially those girls with legs twice as long as their upper body with muscles like Schwarzenegger.

        • MrSirFeatherFang

          Reading too much Berserk?

          • Atmey

Guts <3 Serpico not so much, but strangely I like Griffith as well, mostly because his dark mysterious nature.

      • Never really cared for the SF4 art style either… It comes across a lot more “accidentally goofy” than stylish.

      • Kaihedgie

You do realize this kind of stuff was prominent back in SFII, right? Most Street Fighter characters have always been cartoony in comparison to other series

    • TheHolypopeofgaming

Stop Nitpicking preorder the game. Be amazing at it.

      • RichyGaming

I’m not trying to point out things that bother me to be a fag. I’m pointing out the visuals because the way they made the 3D character models look.

        • Guest

          Still nitpicky.

          • RichyGaming

Yep, and now I explained why.

        • TheHolypopeofgaming

          Not worth arguing over.

if you have PSN+ you can Play AE FREE for an hour.
          give it a spin.

          • RichyGaming

            What’s AE?
            edit: Never mind

      • Sergio Briceño

Not a good reply dude. I don’t even think he mentioned accessibility in that one comment.

If you meant his other UMVC3 comment, then it’s still a bad answer. Spending money on something you aren’t sure you are going to like isn’t a good idea. And if after release you aren’t sure about picking it up based on accessibility it’s still a valid concern.

You can’t expect everyone to be good at everything (unless he “wants” to, in which case preordering still’s got nothing to do with it, arcades are where pro’s are at).

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      Street fighter 3> 4

    • konsama

      Chun li giant thighs?

Shoulda seen the face of my dad (who loves games) when he saw the SF4 characters design when he played it. xD

And not a real fan of the artwork either.

      • RichyGaming

        lool Epic dad

  • endril

Hope to pick up Elena or Poison as a second char

  • Just Tim

Trap vs MILF, er Poison vs Crimson Viper? SOLD!

  • TheDarkEmpress

  • Göran Isacson

Sure am curious who the new guy is meant to be… Mike Haggar? A Rival Schools character? I honestly don’t know which of those two options I’d rather have!

    • Kelohmello

I’m pretty much betting on Haggar. It’d be the perfect chance for Capcom to get the entire Final Fight team in a single modern fighting game, and possibly establish them as mainstays in the Street Fighter franchise.

  • and this, ladies and gentlemen why I’ll never get to see the and of a story.

Hating aside, are these updates done the same way they were in the other eras? So “Ultra Street Fighter IV” equals something like Super Street Fighter II Turbo? I really should catch up on this series…

  • Tonton Ramos

As expected they bring stages from SFXT… Tell me is Ultra Street Fighter 4 gonna have Pandora Mode?

    • anthony apduhan

      And Gems system…

  • konsama

Bet 5th character will be Asura.

    • Grape Monet

Ono already shot him down. He could be lying, though.

    • Slayven19

It’ll probably be someone else from final fight.

  • Slayven19

Hopefully the game will have a better dramatic battle mode than sf x tekken. Not that their version wasn’t good but it could be better in sf4.

  • Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

Ultra Street Fighter IV… and Knuckles.

  • Ixbran

I still think its hilarious that the most sexualized female street fighter character is just a dude in drag (or a transsexual, depending on your going with the Western or Japanese incarnation of her).

I can understand why guys would be so vehemently against the idea though. You dont make a character that as hot and sexualized as Poison, then say: “Oh she got a little somethin’ somehtin’ in her pants you may, or may not, wanna see.”

I personally think that’s what adds the appeal to her character, RuPaul would be proud.

    • Time Sage

She’s still trans either way. She’s just pre-op in japan. Called a Newhalf over there I believe. IT only changed here to shove it aside to prevent backlash….so they made her post op.

      • Ixbran

Either way, she is STILL the Ultimate Glamazon!

  • DCBlackbird

I wonder why do Japanese artist when designing darker skinned characters feel the need to contrast their skin and their features….

  • XiaomuArisu

    So….Stages are recycled too?
    …..again wow

  • Setsu Oh

i m very saddened that elena 3d is no match for the visual poesy elena 2d is.
i hope the five characters will have their costumes too. it would be sad also if they only have this one plus the preorder Udon ones while the others have all of those available already.

    • Longsun_Zhao

elena is SFxT seems like a freakishly tall girl who’s hunched over; I never felt that way about her in SF3. maybe it’s just SF4’s exaggerated art style, but it’s not hot.

the other characters looks great though!

      • Setsu Oh

and the others being fine enphasises her even more. her animations are really stiff.
but that is the case of all vs games capcom released in 3d.
looks like they have a 3d animation problem.

  • Patrick Lucas Honeyman

Screens look good, imagine we’ll get firm details of the 5th character in mid-Autumn.

Guessing Capcom are releasing in Q1 2014 so as to not be forgotten among the fervor of the new console releases.

I’m looking forward to this update. Even if the additional characters are pulled from another fighter, as long as USF4 has great balance I’m down for that.

  • Skode

I wonder if the opponents they face are perhaps chosen because they are fated to be the characters “rivals” in the story… the very first screenshot of Poison dissing C.Viper seems to hint as much.

  • DeRosset

Does Capcom just not get it?! Why can’t they just add new characters and stages to existing Street Fighter IV ports as individual add-ons?

  • DeRosset

“They add that purchasing Ultra Street Fighter IV will also allow you to receive all previously released costume DLC for the Street Fighter IV series.

You mean all the costumes at no extra charge or that I’ll be able to use the costumes I bought for the previous games?!
