New Strider Game Announced At Comic-Con [Update]

By Ishaan . July 18, 2013 . 4:05pm

Capcom announced a new Strider game at their Comic-Con panel this afternoon. The game will use a 2.5D perspective and will feature non-linear, interconnected environments, similar to the Metroid games.

Strider will be able to upgrade himself with new abilities, and these will be used to defeat enemies in different ways, as well as access different parts of the game’s large map.

The game is being developed by Double Helix, who are also working on the new Killer Instinct game for Xbox One. Strider will be released for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2014.

Siliconera will have more to report on Strider soon. Look out for an interview with Capcom about the game in the near future as well.

    • is there a problem with double helix I should know about?

      • Rune

Besides Silent Hill Homecoming, they don’t have much background beyond some crappy movie tie-in games.

        • I see thanks. Since they don’t have much background, I won’t jump into any conclusion on how the game might be…like everyone else should :/

          • Ferrick

they made battleshit the movie the video game… that’s more than enough to see the obvious (Especially KI…)

          • i never heard of them till KI so I don’t really know how I should react to that. A friend is shedding light to what kind of game to make so that’s a start. All I’m going to say is I’m not going to be judgmental of them.

          • Ferrick

well considering on how the demo looks and feel (for KI), i’d say that its a good time to say bye bye to another childhood memory

          • Zeik56

The Battleship movie game actually seemed way better than the movie itself, not that that’s saying much.

          • Ferrick

haha, yeah that’s actually rather true, not that it’s worth anything lol

          • BlueTree

Who knows, you may end up liking it. I guess for my own personal position, there are many variations of Strider so this isn’t really that far out of line gameplay wise… it just looks incredibly uninspired, especially when it’s placed to the new redone Duck Tales game.

I’m really happy for Kazahk theme and Imma let it finish but Destroy the Terrorists in the Occupied City is one of the greatest themes of all time.

I wonder if this OST is hard to find. I can’t find the JJBA one anywhere. I asked Sven a long time ago to put some soundtracks on the Capcom Store… he always replied back to me saying he was working on it, but never got back to me…

          • BlueTree

That’s a good question, but I feel like Strider 2 may remain one of those super obscure games just by nature. Seems like one of those OSTs you’d find laying around in a shop in Japan easily, but be pulling your hair out trying to find elsewhere.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

In Japan, huh? Maybe I could ask my friend who’s going there this summer.

          • BlueTree

A friend of mine found a Saturn for the equivalent of 10 dollars in some electronic store bargain bin, so you’d be surprised.

      • Yes. It’s why I bemoan them handling the return of Killer Instinct. They have a pretty horrid track record regardless of what fans say.

Though I will say for what I’ve seen of KI during EVO, it seems okay so far…

      • BlueTree

They also made Front Mission Evolved, which is… yeah.

      • MrSirFeatherFang

They also made the Battleship (movie) game, Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters and G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra…

    • Mavalex

The hype levels are now unsure of themselves

first I turned in to a saiyan, after seeing Double Helix i’m only with that white aura

      “New Strider Game!”

      “On this-gen and next-gen consoles!”

      *Total Boner!*

      “By Double Helix!”

      *Confused Total Boner*

  • Wii U :(

  • epy

    Double Helix… why?

  • SilentMC

Well here’s the trailer if anyone cares

    • Hollowkoopa

Doesn’t look bad. Reminds me a lot of Strider 2.

  • Spirit Macardi

“Strider will be released for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2014.”

    Umm… I don’t see Wii U on that list.

    • It seems us wii u owners are gonna keep getting shafted for the time being

      • Ben Ruiz

Maybe it is for the best…not getting a potentially awful Double Helix game.

        • Zeik56

I’m not sure how it’s for the best. Bad or good, it’s always better to have the option to buy it than not at all.

    • AuraGuyChris

Capcom shooting itself on the foot by not adding an extra platform for convenience.

  • almostautumn

Just watched the trailer; game looks pretty cool, and I’m glad to see it sticking primarilly to the roots of Strider.
—at the same time though, there’s also not much that stands out. The art-direction is pretty much as safe as it gets, and the gameplay, while again being enjoyably rooted, also looks like it might be too simplisitic. Furthermore, I can’t help but wonder if this is a PSN/XBLA title?

    • epy

It seemed awfully slow to me, at least for a Strider game.

  • i was =D!! YE- double helix….. why capcom…

  • BlueTree

I mean, regardless of the developer, this game looks really boring and uninspired. Not really interested in a reboot style sequel for Strider, this is exactly the kind of thing I think people criticize of Capcom, I’m hoping people for the most part are smart enough to understand that this shouldn’t really be encouraged.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    STRIDER!!! YES! YES!! YESSS!!! :D :D :D

  • fool

    More like Double Hell-no

    • “Certain titles outsourced overseas discontinued” certain, not all. Unless certain in your vision means all :/
