The Last of Us And Deadpool Debut In June’s U.S. Sales Chart

By Ishaan . July 18, 2013 . 7:30pm

The Xbox 360 sold 140,000 units during the month of June in the U.S., Microsoft have reported, making it the best-selling home console for the month yet again. Meanwhile, Nintendo report that the Nintendo 3DS sold 225,000 systems during the month, making it the best-selling videogame system.

In the software sales department, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us was the #1 game for the month. The NPD Group report that The Last of Us enjoyed the the second highest debut of a Sony first-party game on PS3, behind only God of War 3.

The top-10 best-selling games for the month of June (at retail) are listed below. For some perspective, not that Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D sold 108,000 copies in June, and that’s counting digital sales, which the NPD Group doesn’t track. This means everything below DKCR3D on the list was at or below the 100,000 mark. (Ouch, Deadpool.)

Sort of surprised Deadpool even did that well. Beyond the humor (which apparently gets old fast), I’ve heard nothing but bad things about it, and the promotion has been terrible.

The Last of Us at #1 is justice. I think word of mouth may be boosting sales even further, which rocks.

I even forgot it came out. I haven’t heard anyone talk about it. Deadpool that is.

I really enjoyed the game on PC.

Gameplay has enough variety to be fun, although Hack’n’Slash games aren’t exactly my cup of tea, so I played it in short runs.

Humor is silly but it has great moments and good references to comics, and I, being a big Marvel fan, appreciated every funny nod.

I bet a lot of those sales come from Marvel fans more than anything.

      I guess well-made games can still sell…

    Minecraft? Really?

    • JuhRo

Minecraft is huge. It’s target market is the universe. Digital Lego Adventure– that will sell anywhere.

I’m extremely happy to know that The Last of Us is doing so well. Naughty Dog truly outdid themselves this time, and the game definitely deserves all the popularity that it’s receiving.

one thing i needa ask though, how can the xbox still sell that much with all the stuffs sony is offering? exclusives, free games PS4, etc etc

    • randominternetperson

Microsoft has great strategy. They have tons of different models for the 360. You can get it for as low as $99 with subscriptions. I’ve also noticed that they’ve been aggressively advertising the Xbox One while I haven’t seen much of the PS4 if any. They mentioned Xbox One at least 5 times in theatre before the movie started… Sony needs to step it up.

Depends where you go. I saw The Man of Steel recently and they were advertising The Last of Us before the previews (and I live in NYC, huge market). Plus, Sony already has the mind-share going into next gen. There are people who still think the Xbone can’t play used games.

      • Kefkiroth

I went to see a movie, and PS4′s Greatness Awaits campaign played a few times beforehand; didn’t see any X1 ads.
Just depends on where you go.

Eventually XBOX people realize the XBOX has no exclusives and they jump to Playstation.
