As previously reported, Soulcalibur 2 HD Online is headed to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this fall, with all of the game’s original modes intact, as well as online play. Namco Bandai have also released screenshots of the upcoming HD remaster, and you can check them out below.

Would it be too much to ask to swap out these old character models and use the SCV versions and possibly update the remaining characters? Not that I mind, mind you, it just feels like a rush job…

    • Musashi234

If that’s the case it wouldn’t be called Soul Calibur II HD Collection.

    • Ryuukishi

That sounds like it would just be Soul Calibur V…

  • Musashi234

Yes the game that made the lens on my Gamecube wear out will be played once again =D!

  • Ryuukishi

So hype for this. One of my favorite games ever and I might say the best 3D fighting game of all time!

  • This game was the reason I got into the series :3 Looking forward to this, though I would like to have a Wii U version too, I want Link :C

    • icantstandthisindecision

Well, if they WERE making a Wii U version you’d still likely end up with Heihachi, since it’s not like they’re bringing Spawn back for the X-Box 360 version. So don’t be too disappointed there isn’t one.

      • That’s sad :/ What about making them DLC characters? I mean, I’m getting this even if they aren’t in the game, but I would love fi they had Link back.

  • LightGenx

Nice shots. Love me some Soul Caliber.

  • Sentsuizan_93

Man, Fall can’t come soon enough….

  • Christopher Nunes

I hope you can play as Link down the road. I’m not much of Spawn fan, though his attacks and abilities are cool, but I’m not interest in playing as Heihachi.

It seems like Spawn and Heihachi will be around as they’re part of the Xbox and Playstation family. Never got to play as Spawn as I didn’t have an Xbox during the time this game was released.

    • icantstandthisindecision

If I remember correctly, it’s just Heihachi that’s showing up. I’ve no idea how they got Spawn for the X-Box port back in the day, because he’s actually NOT an X-Box property. He belongs to Todd McFarlane and Image Comics.

      • Christopher Nunes

I guess Todd wanted him in or they requested him. I don’t know if Spawn is coming back (I’m just assuming as the game is coming for the Xbox 360 which Spawn appears in the Xbox, the predecessor of 360, so that’s why I said it).

My bad if this confusions people. But WHY just Heihachi? I loved SC2, but I’m not fond of Heihachi that’s why I went for the Gamecube version for Link and I liked my Gamecube.

        • Hunts Rattata

Well, Heihachi belongs to Namco. They don’t have to go through any legal negotiations for him like they would with Spawn. Would be nice if they could just reskin Link and Spawn’s fighting styles onto other characters, but that probably won’t happen.

          • Christopher Nunes

            Indeed it is.

I would have love to had Soul Calibur 2 HD release on all 3 platforms (PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U) and all each version had Heihachi, Spawn and Link <– Nintendo would never allow it, but would be a nice dream.

    • Spirit Macardi

Oh yeah, I’m sure Nintendo would be against it. I mean, it’s not like they’d want to have an HD version of a game that sold fantastically on their old hardware. Don’t even get me started on the free publicity for one of their star characters!

  • Raltrios

Spent so many hours in the hard copy version of this already.

Are Link, Spawn, or Heihachi in this version? My family has the old GC one, and Link’s my main.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    I miss Link! T_T

  • Spirit Macardi

This really is disappointing. The Gamecube version of SC2 is the only entry in the series that I own, and it was all because of Link. Hell, I wouldn’t have even known or cared that the series existed if it weren’t for that. And apparently many others felt the same way, since that port remains the best-selling entry in the series.

Oh, but we get Heihachi, a character who makes no sense being in the game since he’s not a weapon user. Spawn was at least interesting because of the whole “WTF is he doing here?!” factor. But it is Namco after all, so this sort of thing is hardly surprising.

  • Tee Niitris

I hate myself for missing out on this game before.

  • Unemployment Master

Couldn’t they have used their new engine?
As much as I like SCII, a new clothing would be awesome.

    Wish it was SCIII.

  • Kyle Fedora

People are actually hyped for this? The game already ran in 720p on the original Xbox (tho in 4:3), so the only real change is the online mutliplayer. Are people really that excited to play an 11 year old game online? Why not just… play the newer ones?

  • Atmey

Wanted to see Taki in selection screen, wanted to confirm something.

    • PlayLife

yes there’s nipples :) well at least in the original gamecube version running in HD, thx to dolphin emulator
