Tales of Symphonia Chronicles’s Vesperia Outfits Can Be Unlocked Two Ways

By Ishaan . July 24, 2013 . 2:30pm

As previously reported, costumes from Tales of Vesperia will be in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles HD. Sheena will get one outfit based on Judith and Colette will get an outfit based on Rita .

Famitsu.com reports how these costumes will be available—they’ll be unlocked in a New Game+ mode. However, if you have a Tales of Vesperia save on your PS3, you’ll be able to use them in your first playthrough.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles HD is scheduled for release on October 10th in Japan on the PlayStation 3. North America and Europe will get the game sometime in 2014.

Hoh, man. The people that have been asking for Vesperia PS3 aren’t going to be happy.

    • The situation around was kinda ugly….so.
Ah well, hopefully we hear of some workaround for the fancy-pants costumes.

      • artemisthemp

They just become Pre order bonus

    • AuraGuyChris

It’s like Bandai Namco is going to shoot itself in the foot once this comes out…
I can see it now. Palmacosta Massacre: Internet Version.

  • Cruxis

    >However, if you have a Tales of Vesperia save on your PS3

Gee, thanks. That would have been cool IF THE GAME CAME OUT ON PS3 HERE.

    • Testament

So the big question now is, how do we get the costumes? I somehow doubt the western release will allow you to use JP save data to unlock these costumes.

New game +. The Vesperia save is just for unlock them in the first playthrought.

  • Bakuryukun

Man, I’d love to have Vesperia data on PS3, unfortunately Namco you didn’t let me!

    • Lynx

      Or you know, wonderful option.
Here, let me do the work for you:

So technically, no. They did let you.

      • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I’m going to assume that Bakuryukun meant to say “you didn’t let me [in a language other than Japanese]”.
If that’s the case, then technically, he is right.

        • DyLaN

There a english patch being worked on for Vesperia PS3……

          • Nightmare637

thats not common knowledge.(I found out about this just now)

          • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

English patch for a jail broken/unofficial firmware PS3. Some people may have enough scratch for both a legit and unlegit PS3 system, but as of right now, I’m not one of those people. That and I’ll wait until most games stop coming for PS3 and start moving to PS4. Trust me, if I could I would.

      • Warboss Aohd

        not everyone likez importin’

did it once, never again. Only reason i did wit dat game woz it woz Suikoden 1 and 2, pretty much had da scripts memorized.

      • Learii

just 1 problem that is Japanese version and if I got a English tales of symophonia I won’t get the outfits

      • psycho_bandaid

        Pretty expensive DLC, huh? :P

      • Maxwell3000

A bit harsh but true none the less.

      • Stephen

Except… they don’t want you to do that. Hence the gradual move towards region locking on games and the warning on the back of games saying they are meant to be sold in specific regions only.

        • Lynx

Um..You realize they always had warnings on cases, right? That’s what NTSC U/C, PAL and NTSCJ is for.

And actually, the regional is only Nintendo now, so yeah. New Xbox is region free, PS4’s region free, PS3’s region free, computer is region free, etc.

      • Bakuryukun

Actually no technically NAMCO did not let me. At best play-asia let me play a game in a language I don’t understand at all. Is that suppose to be enough or something?

  • Slayven19

Ok lets not make this into a vesperia debate because we still aren’t going to get the game so lets move on. They’ll probably just make the judith one a pre-order bonus for the west. They both are unlockable in game anyway so I really wouldn’t care.

Hopefully the only new costumes won’t be cameo tales costumes.

    • DyLaN

If only ppl is tht “excited” with Innocence and Hearts R…..

Btw, I knew tht the original Innocence have a patch but does Hearts have one too?

      • Maumac77

There’s one for Hearts that is being made, I think they put up a couple of demos for it too

      • Anime10121

Played the patched Innocence and it was boring as all hell to me, though I heard Hearts is MUCH better with many saying its the best handheld Tales to date.

        • DyLaN

:X I dunno, the manga got me interested even w/out all the additional stuff and skits.

          • Anime10121

I heard the PSVITA remake was MUCH better than the DS game, because it restructured the story to make it flow better, but IMO, the DS games pacing was a complete mess. While it did indeed play nice, the pacing of the game was horrible.

  • AokiShizuku

Thank the heavens it’s not DLC or pre-order bonus. I’m pretty happy about this.

  • Guest

Ha ha ha ha ha i love you namco. Cheers to the people that over came the ps3 version language barrier.

  • Freud_Hater

…So uhh if I have a save of Vesperia PS3 on my Japanese PSN because I wanted to buy DLC for it, does it mean I’ll have to play on my Japanese account? Kind of a drag, but okay :/

  • Mitsuki

Just download the “SAVE DATA” from the internet

  • YoshEE

Now I wonder how that gonna work on u.s version with Versperia jap version in order to get that costume.

  • well i’ll just say it i quite hate how they look but other then that i hope the game does well, symphonia is a fantastic game and i also quite liked symphonia 2 first wii game i got

  • Guest

I’d actually LOVE if they can be DLC…. that goes into a ENG VesperiaPS3 Kickstarter kind of thing. :P

    • #wishfulthinking

  • CirnoTheStrongest

Ugh…..Seeing Colette wearing Rita’s outfit is just wrong…Though it’s not like Namco has the best track record of actually syncing up outfits right -_-

As for the Vespy thing….would a JP save work on a NA copy? That’s really what i’d want to know

    • Guest

I bet YOU’D make the BEST outfit matches!

      • CirnoTheStrongest

    • TWE

Aren’t the alt costumes usually tied to the person who designed the particular character? Kinda the reason Ludgar has Emil’s and so forth.

      • CirnoTheStrongest

Maybe? Though as I recall they didn’t start splitting artists among characters until Xillia

  • wfgodbold

The real question is whether a Japanese Vesperia save will unlock the costumes in the English Symphonia release.

  • FFmax

Come on Namco can’t you guys just localize PS3 Vesperia? Seriously just make it downloadable only if you’re so worried about sales.

  • Slickyslacker

    Well, that isn’t fair.

I mean, seriously, if Operation Rainfall got Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower localized, a damned enhanced port of an exceedingly well-selling ARPG should be able to get over to NA and EU simply through fan demand,

  • Maumac77

Don’t quite understand the problem some people are having. Is it just because we (NA/EU) have to play through the game once just to use them?? Because considering the genre you would be playing the game multiple times anyway especially this one considering…..that.

    • I don’t think that’s the problem, but since they mentioned that if you had a Vesperia file saved in your Ps3 you would unlock them right away, it was like a kick on the crotch for people that wanted a release, including me.

      • Maumac77

It is the same thing for Xillia though we miss out on the bonuses for having a PS3 save file as well and I haven’t seen as many grumbles about that. Also you can speed through the game in ~7 hours. Also I think that’s opinion because I wanted the PS3 version out as well, but I don’t feel the same way you do about this at all.

        • That’s different and it’s not like people want the costumes that bad, they just feel sentimental again because they remembered Vesperia never came out in english for the PS3. And that says nothing, of course some people would feel sad and other wouldn’t, we’re not all the same.

          • Maumac77

Which is exactly why I said it was an opinion. Also if they don’t care about the costumes than there really is no point since this solely applies to them. Plus it is’t like they have addressed this to the US version since they can give an alternative to us. This report is most likely pertaining to only the Jp verison considering it comes out there first. Though to be fair they haven’t said anything about Xillia which has a similar situation

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Sheena <3

  • Reiko_Chan

I feel like I got slapped in the face.

    • AzureRyuujin

I hate to complain, but so do I.

  • NightzeroAX

    WOW WDF D:<

  • Jesse

We AREN’T getting Vesperia PS3, just go through New Game+. =P

Also, JP saves WON’T work for games from different regions.

  • Spirit Macardi

I have to say, those outfits look rather weird up close. It’s probably because the outfits use higher quality textures than the characters’ facial features, which are clearly carried over from the original game.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Oooooh man, I knew coming into this article one of the requirements was to have the Vesperia save. Would be cool if it worked despite having Symphonia Chronicles from another region.

  • Repede91

I have the Japanese version of ToV on PS3. Hope I can unlock these outfits in the NA version.

  • ZEROthefirst

I hope I’m not the only one who thinks that the Judith outfit on Sheena looks so out of place. It looks more like someone photoshoped her head on there.

    • Slayven19

Um the majority of times the cameo costumes do look out of places because they are out of place in a sense that its not the game the costume is from. However the cameo costumes look weird here because of the chibi models.

      • ZEROthefirst

I’m aware of that, this isn’t the first Tales game I’ve played (and honestly one of my least favorite entries). I know the chibi type character models are what help this, but with Judith’s outfit it literally looks like Sheena’s head was photoshopped on it. Even the skin tone looks a bit different from the head and body.

  • IS | 桂木

Probably a little late to the party, but I’ll rant anyway:

I really hate Vesperia related anything now, because all I see in the comments is lazy people complaining about how the PS3 version isn’t released in their region. You guys DO know the PS3 is region-free, right? So what’s stopping you from importing? It’s in Japanese? There’s a guide for that. Cost too much money? The game is 40 US Dollars on Play-Asia, and a little over 3,000 JPY on AmiAmi. Namco has said time and time again they aren’t localizing the game, it’s about time you all quit complaining, suck it up and import.

    • Maumac77

I want to buy it to use for…..”study.” Been learning this past summer and want to use it to see how much I can understand

    • Nitraion

Yeah but not all people enjoying playing game with kanji writing… and the language that not familiar with….especially with heavy story game like this…. not all people willing to learn japanese just to play too..
Read the guide and playing the game its not really comfortable too..
Yeah lazy people wants too playing it too it seems
So if i want to suggest…. its hard choice but umm 360 version is the best choice right now….

    • Anime10121

No import for me, I liked the US cast. Although it pains me that I wont get to play the better version of Vesperia, I DID play it when I had an Xbox and so far, it’s my favorite current gen Tales, (still my favorite graphical style for Tales), and it pains me that I wont get to play it again until I can buy another 360 for less than 100 bucks :(

  • Nitraion

Hmm i guess NA version path its just finish the game…
unless they release ToV in matter of second….

I imagine the impact to people that beg ToV Ps3 to be released
    That’s will be ugly.. ==”

  • And I was already forgetting about Vesperia…

  • fireemblembeast

It’s not DLC?! Wow. And I wonder if JP ToV save will work on US copies of this, or if they’ll give us another second option here.

  • im sure namco knows that we dont have ps3 vesperia in the west. lol. even though it makes less sense, they could always program the bonus for graces or xillia data instead, since they may figure that whoever has those games are just as much tales fans as the japanese consumers who got vesperia.

  • Nanaki

As far as I’m concerned this announcement only applies to The Japanese audience (It is a Japanese article, according to Ishaan).
However, I don’t think the costumes will be removed and will certainly be available through the New Game+ option.

  • Learii

that not fair tho no one have tales of vespria data on ps3 since is didn’t come to the west duh

  • InfernoCommander

Guys, just roll with me here. What if… WHAT IF, it’s a sign that Vesperia will be coming out for the ps3 in the US?

  • I haven’t had a good rant in a while. Might as well start now.

You know, this really grinds my gears. For multiple reasons. On the one hand, I’m confident that we’ll get those costumes as pre-order DLC. And, when you get right down to it, they’re just costumes. They add cute aesthetic to characters that a lot of us know and love. For me, I use them here and there, enjoy them for a second and then switch to something else.

But on the other hand, it feels like salt is being poured in the ToV wound. I can’t believe I’m getting annoyed by costumes in a video game. I am still annoyed by the fact that the PS3 version of Vesperia never got released in the USA. The Xbox 360 version was fine, but the PS3 version had more stuff to it. Patty Fleur may not be much, but you have more monsters, artes, hi-ougis, and the ability to play as Flynn. If there’s more, let me know.

“But, Kashell! You could always import it!” Of course, that’s an option. But that is never anyone’s first option. As someone who has imported before, I can tell you that playing games in Japanese requires a lot of effort. You need a translation guide, a strategy guide and you need to memorize katakana to understand what is what in the menus. Now, as someone who loves studying new languages and as someone who knows a bit of Japanese (been learning it for about four years now), I didn’t have much trouble with certain aspects of imported titles. However, not everyone will feel that way. Some people may not want to “study” for a game. Some people may not have the luxury of importing a game due to cost.
“But, Kashell!” They’re working on a patch!” Correct me if I’m wrong, but utilizing patches on modern systems like the PS3 takes money and work. I would much rather play a game by popping the disc in. Also, fan translation patches take time. Lots and lots of time. Those bozos that translated the PSX version of Phantasia took 12 years. 12. Years.
“But Kashell! It worked for Operation Rainfall! Maybe we can sign a petition!” Operation Rainfall did not do a thing. Petitions don’t work. They never work. Again, correct me if I’m wrong if a Nintendo executive said something about it working. Until I see legitimate proof, I won’t acknowledge that OR did a damn thing.
I’m just annoyed by this right now. I’m thankful as hell that we are getting this collection on our side because, as a long time Tales fan, I know what it’s like to hear the news of new Tales and get let down by it not getting released here. Still, it really sucks that just when I (and likely, a few others) started to forget about the PS3 version of ToV, they get reminded that it’s not on our side and it’s not ever coming to our side.

  • Jesse

I think a LOT of you are ignoring where it says you can get them by going through a New Game +.

  • Anime10121

I wish I COULD have a Vesperia save on my PS3, I know it says you can get them in New Game +, but I want them NAOW! :(

  • KuroNathan

ugh, these new costumes do not look that good on the kind of proportions symphonia had.

  • Tyler Beale

Shit….How bout saves from Graces F and both Xillias? (Yes, I do mean saves from all 3 games)

  • Aqua King

I’m confused. Wasn’t this only on Xbox?

    • JustThisOne

Vesperia got a PS3 port in Japan only. So they’ll be the only ones that can play with the costumes unlocked in the first playthrough.

In other words, you can only unlock the Vesperia costumes in the Symphonia games on a New Game+ file.

  • Brandonmkii

I know I’m late to the party, but I just had to say I’m disappointed that people are still mad over a game that’s already been released in English, even though there’s other Tales games still stuck overseas. (And other games besides Tales, for that matter.)
