By Ishaan . July 29, 2013 . 6:00pm

One of the jobs in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is Summoner. Summoners have the ability to ability to summon primals such as Ifrit, Garuda and Titan in “Egi” form. Take a look at the three pet egi below, courtesy of the game’s official blog:

And here’s a shot of a bunch of Summoners wearing artifact armour:

  • hoping for a quezacoatl one.

    • Brion Valkerion

The list of primals so far is pretty much confirmed for the release version anyway, never know what they add in the future. ATM they are, Ifrit, Titian, Garuda, Leviathan, Shiva, Ramuh confirmed, and someone found the data/model for Siren.

      • James

I believe there was also a model for a multi-headed white dog.

        • zferolie

Where did you find all this?

          • riceisnice

That was data found like a billion years ago. Siren and Cerberus-like dog was found among the unused data and was speculated that they were for summoners to use. Haha, we were wrong.

          • zferolie

I have not really been following this game too much, other then seeing that summoners are in this, so I apologize for not knowing too much.

We can start as one right away right, or do we have to do some sort of progression?

          • riceisnice

You start out as an Arcanist. They’re a debuffer/dps class who also have access to Carbuncle which is a tank summon. After you get to level 30 (I think) you can participate in a quest to unlock the summoner job.

          • zferolie

Ah, I see. I couldn’t find this info on some wiki’s thanks you two.

So I want to pick Arcanist then, and then decide if I want to be a DPS or Healer. Are there pictures of what each summon looks like, like Shiva and the fairies for the Scholar

          • Time Sage

As far as we know they only have faries.

          • riceisnice

Scholars only get fairies I think. Don’t quote me on that. You can unlock both Scholar and Summoner but you need to keep in mind how you’re going to distribute your attribute points since their tied to the arcanist. Summoners want int and Scholars want mind.

Of course, you could just ignore attribute points but I’m not exactly sure how significant they’ll be later on.

          • Draparde

Scholars only have 1 fairy, but Much like Carbuncle, she has different forms. (Carbuncle has different forms btw if you didint know :P ) also much like carbuncle I assume these forms are mostly a color change. (that i could be wrong on. would be cool if i am.)

          • Time Sage

Summoners are a Job, which are basicly a “spec” for the various classes. They are bascily an Arcanist that’s traded in their carbuncle and some cross class skills for some Egi and more DPS focus due to exclusive ablities.

Jobs are turned on by equipping a soul gem. The other choice for Arcanist is Scholar which is a healer. Without a gem they’re the base class.

          • Time Sage

Alot has changed since then. In the original 1.0 data, arcanists fought with magical traps and used mechanical looking staffs.

Here they fight with DoTs (like 1.0 Thm) and carbuncle and use books.

Who knows if they were meant to be summoned. There’s still another form of summoning I believe that’s done by a party.

          • riceisnice

Yeah, that could have been the plan for 1.0 before they decided to change it. The party summoning thing is summoning primals themselves. There’s like strict requirements though.

      • Wiccan1109

Pretty sure the siren is a boss/monster, they posted the artwork for it along with some other monsters quite a while back.

      • Richard W Mitchem

i’d like to see a cerberus, bahamut, and quezacoatl primal as well

  • Vesperion

Could i get a explanation on what “Egi” is?

    • Time Sage

It’s basicly a fragment of the Primal’s Power used by the summon. It’s more of an avatar then the real deal since the real ones hate us.

      • Vesperion

        Haha thanks

  • zferolie

This class is the one I am REALLY looking forward to. I love summoners, and I will play this game just to be a summoner.

    • Nightmesh

Same for me. As long as I can try it out before subscribing.

  • Rohan Kishibe

Ifrit looks so similar to the Spirit of Fire from Shaman King

    • Vash bane

      ah memories

  • 栗場 江理久

Who’s gonna help me get that artifact armor?!?! D:<

    • AnimusVox

      I will!!! >:L

    • Wait what

      Join the Ultros server. ;)

      • 栗場 江理久

        Hmmm…I dunno…do there be…SWEETS on this Ultros server…?

        • Vash bane

  • A little disappointed that the summon version of Garuda doesn’t have her face, but besides that they all look okay so far.

  • karasuKumo

I can’t wait to see what limit break this job has.

    • All the summons come out at once and beat the opponents ass =P

    • Akuosa

Limit breaks are based on the role on the party, not the job. There are dps, caster, support and tank, so… it’ll have caster probably, the same black mage gets, for example.

      • karasuKumo

What?! Really? That sucks. I thought it was odd seeing a Dragoon use Omnislash but I thought it was a placeholder during the beta.

  • I am sure there will be thousands of Kaze-lookalikes in this game by launch. “Soil is my power!”

    • Vash bane

you shouldn’t have mentioned lol now its going to happen

“the soil charge. triad to use against you have been decided!”

  • whatinthewolrd

I’m sorry but I will not be enjoying summoner this go around. They look boring…

  • Richard W Mitchem

ifrit doesnt look right in ffIV. he should go back to looking like a fire beast to keep his look through out the ff series
