Wow, Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS Zooms Out Really Far

By Ishaan . July 29, 2013 . 8:30am

The latest batch of Super Smash Bros. screenshots is an assortment of interesting scenes. For starters, the single Nintendo 3DS screenshot in the batch gives one an idea of just how far the screen will zoom out in the 3DS version, making the characters appear quite tiny. Another screen shows Samus and Link being shot off stage by an unknown assailant.

And of course, there’s the screen above with the dreaded villager, letting Pit have a taste of his own arrows.

Eh…they are tiny..Nintendo’s pretty much telling us to get a XL if we want to enjoy this.

    • JuhRo

The black outlines will help a ton.. but I’ll enjoy it on my Regular 3DS, as it’s more portable and fits better to its vibe, since I have a Vita.. and would play on that if I want a big screen.

:) Either way, I’m glad to finally have it on a portable.

      • Bobby Jennings

The thing is, how could you play Smash for 3DS on a Vita screen? I’m just saying, if the characters are going to be so far that I can barely see them, I’m thinking this should be played on a XL..

        • JuhRo

I know, I realized how that sounded after I clicked “post”. But what I mean is.. I like the portable feel of the 3DS Regular.. The size seems right to me.. and I think with the black outlines, arrows with name tags.. and so on.. it’ll work. :)

My problem with the original 3Ds design is that it cramped the hell out of my hands. I upgraded because of it. Which is funny, cuz I owned both a 1st model ds and a lite for years and never had a problem. I didn’t buy a PSP go for the same reason (I’m a sucker for digitals). I love my 3ds XL and Vita, both are very comfortable and have nicescreens (quality and size)

          • Bobby Jennings

I agree as well. XL feels weird, but at the same time, feels kinda comfortable.

I’m pretty sure it’s just a zoomed out screenshot. You know, when you pause the game and zoom out?

  • eilegz

    those jaggies =/

    • Enzo

Honestly, pretty much any 3DS screenshot you will ever see will have “jaggies.” However, every single time it looks MUCH better on the 3DS itself.

  • Namuro

Samus sure looks like Iron Man there, the pose and all, and link just looks like he has only one Iron Man boot on…

  • RaikageV

Hasn’t the 3DS version thick black outlines? This rather looks like the Wii U version.

    • J_Joestar

It does, I’m not sure the reasoning for having a title that says 3DS but all of the screenshots are the Wii U version.

      • Ben Sylvia

The 2nd image I know when it was on the website had the 3DS border around it. Also pretty sure it’s from Kid Icarus Uprising. Want to say the first chapter after the Phoenix boss. (Not sure how to describe it without spoilers.)

        • J_Joestar

if it is from the 3DS version, there must be a way to turn off the black outlines or something.

    • XypherCode

Yeah the second image is from the 3DS version. Since stages are tied to either the 3DS or Wii U, and assuming this is a Kid Icarus stage so it should be on 3DS.

  • RichyGaming

Last picture “We’re blasting off again!” SSB style

Still not sure if I should get the 3DS version or Wii U.. Probably both if I had some extra cash but so far leaning towards Wii U due to the graphics.

    • Bobby Jennings

Me too. Though I’m selling my Wii-U to someone, it’ll still be in the household.

  • Ben Sylvia

    2nd screenshot.

I really want to say it’s Kid Icarus Uprising, the chapter with the big bomb that blows up (spoilers)

    • sd28

      it is

      • Ben Sylvia

Yeah I saw the new screenshot.

Can’t wait to see what it’s like to be next to ground zero when the bomb goes off.

Yay! Its PSABR Vita all over again >_>

    • PreyMantis

Don’t even dare to put Smash Bros. on the same league with PSASBR.

    • Haseyo

      Yay! Another obvious troll.

    • Tonton Ramos

You mean the game that didn’t give me/us two fan faves while this game gave us at least one yet it already satisfy us…

  • XypherCode

    That’s pretty cool :)

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

Holy fuck with the visuals. That first screenshot looks phenomenal and the 3D could help players to focus their eyes on the characters and the stage instead of the background, something that was really helpful in games like Bit.Trip Saga and Cave Story.

  • NatT96™

Strangely people think that visuals are key to selling a console (PSVita is a good example), but its how you actually experience the games in-depth quality(The Nintendo 3DS). While the PSVita has the power of both in-depth and better graphical power, it does not meet the correct consumer price and large library games because of it. Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS will only push the PSVita farther into a dark corner of despair, but hey, the Nintendo handhelds have always packed a punch of god damn excellence.

Anyways, can’t wait for August! :)
