Shin Megami Tensei IV Gets Its First Story DLC In North America

By Ishaan . July 30, 2013 . 12:05pm

Round 3 of Shin Megami Tensei IV DLC brings another two quests to the game in North America. Here’s a look at what’s in store this time around:

Overlord Equipment ($1.49) – Three Challenge Quests, each one rewarding you with a piece of the Demon’s Skin armour set. You can accept these quests early in the game.

The Demon’s Skin set dresses your character up as Asmodeus. If you’re curious, that’s the armour pictured to the right.

Clipped Wings 1 ($2.49) – A Challenge Quest that requires you to defeat the Archangels Uriel and Raphael. Completing the quest lets you fuse Herald Uriel and Herald Raphael.

Incidentally, this quest is also connected to the game’s main story and it is recommended that you take it on during the endgame.

    Sounds good.

  • kmantle

A downloadable paid quest connected to the main story? Why, Atlus, why?

    • HershelLousyton

Connected to the main story ≠ Mandatory in order to fully comprehend the main story.

      • Bobby Jennings

Why does it have to be paid DLC?

        • Because games cost money to produce?

          • Bobby Jennings

I thought Nintendo wasn’t doing the whole Paid DLC thing on their systems…figured you would have known what I meant Ishy .-.. Cool looking DLC regardless, I like the costume.

          • Tincho D

            >I thought Nintendo wasn’t doing the whole Paid DLC thing on their systems

      • kmantle

I know it’s not the same thing, but still… that kind of DLC (in ANY game) gives me the impression that I bought an incomplete game.

        • Takuya

i sometimes pity the developers . creates a Item , exp , money easy-gain DLC get scolded by Fans because DLC is waste of money. developers create a DLC that HAVE connection to story but doesnt required to buy also get scold by fans.its kinda hard to please people nowadays. This DLC is mandatory buy if you want to have more time with SMT 4 if not dont bother. the game is fully complete by itself

          • kmantle

I’m perfectly fine with the side-quests-unrelated-to-the-story kind of dlc, like the other downloadable missions (or, for example, the extra quests of Fire Emblem). But selling extra content that’s actually related to the main story means that the story is incomplete (hell, even the developers must think that the story is incomplete if they feel the necessity of lauching that kind of dlc). So, don’t ‘pity the developers’ for not being able to please every person. Instead pity them for not being able to make a complete story. And if you want to be charged extra money for a full resolution, that’s fine, be a conformist.

(and, and as I said in a comment below, I -and a lot of people- don’t have the facility to get a prepaid card, wich means that a lot of people can’t get the dlc)

          • Aesma

…there’s a lot of way to buy prepaid card online you know. For an example in my country, there’s an online shop where you buy from him and then he will give you the code in the prepaid card.

        • Tincho D

          >gives me the impression that I bought an incomplete game
That’s the reason why DLC is successful.

Nobody really wants to own an incomplete game.

          • Bobby Jennings

    • Calamity

Because they know fans will buy it.

    • Erikdayo

Oh no. Not a couple dollars for an optional quest! How will I live?

      • kmantle

A ‘couple of dollars’ my ass… wait, that wasn’t right…
Seriously, maybe you have the opportunity of buying it anytime, but in my case isn’t. There’s not a single major store who sells Nintendo eShop prepaid cards here (some ‘tianguis’ sells them at $500 pesos), and I can only buy them whenever I go to USA… wich is twice a year (next trip is, at least, untill last days of november, and it’s an all-day trip wich costs at leats $1000 pesos between gas and toll booths). The other option is using a credit card, but the banks here charge outrageous fees just for using a card (the cheapest ones charge between 100%-200%), and with the convertion rate of dollars to pesos, these $2.50 dlls can end in more than $100 pesos

I’m perfectly aware that my case doesn’t apply to everybody, but the pre paid cards stuff is actually very common down the border

        • Erikdayo

I cannot fix what sort of fees your bank may or may not charge. Or the exchange rate to USD.

          • kmantle

“Payment methods -> PayPal -> Bank account”

          • Schezo Wegey

Did you try other methods? You do know that you can get a paypal account with a debit card (not a credit card,) and/or unvertified without using a bank check. Also there’s ebay/etc. too. Unless you live in the Philippines there should be a ton of options to convert or otherwise. Can’t really fix the exchange rate though no matter what you do.

    • Sardorim

Well, you hear about these events quite a bit on Neutral and a bit on Law Route. Mostly Neutral reveals nearly everything, the DLC series merely portrays what happened in the past before your… Well, I can say more without spoiling things hard.

  • Brandonmkii

Well, gotta use my $30 credit somehow.

  • ragingmerifes

Too bad I can’t get it due to living in a region not supported by the payment system of this game.
I could order an international card to insert US credits, but… I finished the game… I saw all endings… I defeated some Fiends, I defeated Beel, I defeated Demi… I’m at level 99…
No. I’m happy already. I need to move on and wait for DS2. As tempting as it is to get the Archangels.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

  • I just want the Hathor outfit DLC for U.S.! >_<

    • vileBrenman

The male protag in a females clothes!… Yes please!

      • I would rock it for the entire game like there’s no tomorrow (⌐■_■). I think I’ve found a cosplay challenge as well =^_^=

      • Tincho D

        That’s a dude??? Aw shit

    • Nightmare637

      I’d tap it.

      EDIT:wait thats a dude isen’t it?

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      this one also

    • celery

Wait this is really a thing?

Wow as if I couldn’t love this protagonist more! *-* Protag, you’re the best! <3

      • Yes, but apparently they’re only getting it in Japan. “Sigh” lol

        • celery

Noooo ;-; they have to release it everywhere, I want to make him even prettier

  • NewestType

I thought we were only allowed to complain about this when other companies do it. Im sure atlus in all there gaming perfection will make story baseddlc work somehow.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I hate the pricing for 3ds dlc. Getting it regardless, but still

  • Bernkastel

Why Atlus?! Why?! I’ve already completed the game twice since launch, I don’t need MORE reasons to play it…

  • Fidelis

I had played through the Chaos and Neutral paths assuming I’d fight the archangels..was disappointed when that didn’t happen

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Not really bad at pricing here considering this one is also extra story+demon.

Going to get this one to support Atlus here. (It is not like Atlus is doing really well right now.T_T Stay alive Atlussssss!)

  • Aesma

…I feel like I was trolled.
Uriel: “I shall show you why I was called the Flame of God.”
    Expectation: Agi or it’s variation.
    Battle: Lightning of God
Why the hell do they call you the Flame of God then?!

  • RoxasTheUnknown1

Finished Chaos, working on Law. This small story tidbit dropped in the DLC was pretty cool. Though it’s M. Can his word be trusted? xD

  • 657rod

Story Dlc´s…………. when I was young ultimate bosses and extra quests where for free!
