deep down Is An Online Enabled Multiplayer PS4 RPG

By Spencer . August 1, 2013 . 3:37am

Capcom is about to reveal more about deep down, a PlayStation 4 game first teased during Sony’s hardware reveal. deep down is being developed by Capcom Online Games and as expected is an online enabled RPG that supports a large number of players. The game’s genre is a “memory reading RPG” or “reading RPG” as see in katakana. The teaser site also mentions deep down requires an internet connection and is an online exclusive similar to Dragon’s Dogma Quest.

We should hear more about deep down too since the game will be shown at Tokyo Game Show.

    Interesting indeed.

  • leeorv

Interest in the game ===> down to zero.

Why can’t these companies understand that people want a robust single player experience and not just online? unless it’s like Demon/Dark souls, this is a total downer for me.

    • EtroAnime

I hear you but I am not ready to write it off yet. I hope it really brings something innovative to the table.

    • Stranger On The Road

A good single player campaign is the only reason I buy games.

But there are too many gamers who care [many of which only caring] about multiplayer that I can’t fault developers for going down that path.

In the case of this game… the first trailer made me think it was a single player game…. I am a bit disappointed by this news.

      • leeorv

Exactly this, you can’t show an epic CG based medieval trailer showing PvE for an online-only game, that’s incredibly deceiving.

    • Longsun_Zhao

I don’t care so much what kind of game it is, I care more if it’s fun and interesting. I try not to write games off due to genre.

      • landlock

That’s the thing without a decent single player it will be neither fun or interesing to alot of people.

        • Longsun_Zhao

Why does every game have to appeal to everyone? I’m sure there are also a lot of people who are excited about this.

          • ShadowDivz

            *raises hand*

I agree, not EVERY game has to appeal to EVERY one. It kinda sounds like he’s saying “if it’s gonna be online it’s worthless now” that ISN’T what he’s saying but it kinda comes off like that.

Not really a problem for me since i have an active internet connection. But i understand some people being disappointed.

          • landlock

It doesn’t have to but doesn’t mean I should praise it now that I know it doesn’t interest me. Which is why I can cross it off my radar.

    • ShadowDivz

Interest in the game ===> Up by 100.

Why can’t some people understand that SOME people want to play online on their consoles not just a robust single player experience?

Game looks interesting, sure not EVERYBODY can go online to play an MMO or something, but some people would like the single player experience to mix with online fun. ON THEIR CONSOLE. Not just PC.

And no i don’t mean like a shooter, because those ALL have multiplayer. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood had a good SP campaign AND good online MP. Just because some thing you thought was single player has/is online multiplayer doesn’t mean it sucks balls now.

Besides you still have skyrim and other games like that. An online fantasy game like this(medieval) actually sounds quite appealing to me.

      • Draparde

I agree. im interested in this as well, Capcom already has a single player oriented fantasy open world RPG (dragons dogma) this seems to focus on something that game doesn’t have. Since its not dragons dogma they probably wanna do something diffrent with it (and i’m all for it.)

        • ShadowDivz

          Thank you! Someone gets it!
And i have Dragon’s Dogma and i love it. It’s one of my favorite games.

      • leeorv

The thing is that it seems from this article that there is no single player,

“The teaser site also mentions deep down requires an internet connection and is an online exclusive similar to Dragon’s Dogma Quest”

This means this is an online-only game. and I think there are already way too many of those planned for PS4, and I would’ve much preferred to have a game that has both robust single player AND robust multiplayer.

        • ShadowDivz

Well sometimes we can’t have our cake and eat it too.

    • Pockystix

I think the fact that you gave Demon’s and Dark Souls a chance, says that you’ll still give this one a chance

I will definitely look into the game, but I will say; I really wanted it to be a Dragon’s Dogma follow-up

      • leeorv

I try to give everything a chance, I even played some online modes to max level – Bioshock 2, AC:B.

  • Tenshiken

personally, I believe that with this upcoming generation they’re going to have to have some sort of identification on the box that tells you whether the game actually requires an internet connection or not.

  • Katboy

    So its an mmo then?

  • DemonShadowX

Looks interesting, will have to see more.

In other news, since Siliconera hasn’t posted it yet, BoF6!!!! For MOBILE :-( :-(

    • Ferrick

      and pc…. as an mmo…

    • Neophoton

      Talk about massive disappointment…

    • kroufonz

      hahaha oh you

    • Breath of Fire 5 was skipped then?

(No I don’t count Dragon Quarter.)

      • Testsubject909

You’re not counting it but Capcom is.

And I understand. Dragon’s Quarter was an interesting game, fun in it’s own right. But a Breath of Fire game it is not, or it certainly didn’t feel like one… And punishing us for using the powers of a Dragon certainly was a great way to not make it feel like a Breath of Fire game.

  • Pyrofrost

Thanks anyway, but SquareEnix is fulfilling my “online only” needs.

  • Kai2591

    “memory reading RPG”
    …is it actually sci-fi? lol
can’t help but be reminded of Assassin’s Creed’s Animus.

  • Speaking of online games….

Guess what everyone? Breath of Fire 6 has been announced! As an online game for your smartphone or your tablet! :D………. X_X

  • Zikrayrus “Zikk” Dis Pear

Can’t say much unless we get more information… but I usually play Singleplayer anyways. So this will have to be shoved somewhere further back in my mind for now…

  • Riseabovethesky

I need to know more about this one before I reach a verdict. BoF 6 exclusive for PC, tablet and smartphones is pretty disappointing for me though.

  • Idk, not enough to go on yet to completely judge, but I can say that it didn’t really pull me into it though.

    • Testsubject909

I just wanted to see the painting…

  • Impressionnant

Is it an MMO or is it just an always-online Dark Souls? I hope it’s the latter.

    • Testsubject909

Y’know if it becomes an always online Dark Souls, it’d become an MMO.

Edit: Mainly because of what MMO stands for.

  • Umar

I’m a really calm person…but when I found out breath of fire 6 is an online game for pc and tablets I lost my cool….I am in utter loss for words…..what a horrible night to have a curse-com

    • AnimusVox

Wait….back up to that part about Breath of Fire. What the shit Crapcom!!

      • Umar

Exactly my reaction…how many years have we begged capcom for a new bof…and what hurts the most…this is a numbered title…it doesn’t even get a proper announcement or anything…just like SE, they think nothing of the series’ that got them to where they are now…I never thought I would see the day that bf was an online game for tablets…..

        • Sebastian Knauer

Breath of Fire got them where they are… ?
There was this series called Megaman, and this series called Street Fighter, that got Capcom much further, than BoF ever did. I loved half of the BoFs, and BoFV was a fantastic game, but they really weren’t this magical huge landmark that you’re making them out to be.

          • Umar

Breath of fire was a great game and a strong franchise for them , and as for my statement above about it getting them where they are today, that included Megaman, as I didn’t say just ONE series, and look how they treated that. Along with BoF they totally disregarded those series’ , I didn’t mean that that game solely got them to where they are, but it was still a popular game for them and it helped with Capcom’s popularity. I’m not making it out to be a huge landmark

  • ElAbuelo69

sup siliconera, BoF6 too much of a shock you won’t even update the site? :P

    It’s ok, I understand :(

    • Brandonmkii

      Bof6? Woah.

      • Testsubject909

Breath of Fire 6. Smartphone/PC game. Guesses are that it’s a social game since the possibilities are high that it’s an online RPG.

Additionally the official site shows a generic redhead warrior as opposed to… y’know… Ryu…

        • Brandonmkii

I’m down for a mainline bof with touchscreen controls/character creation. Don’t doubt that there well be some social features given the platforms., but I dint think they’d call it a mainline game if it was JUST a social game.

          • Ferrick

it was under capcom’s “Capcom online games” tag…. so chances of it being single player… is low… and chances of it having the same fate as YS online is rather high….

          • Nanashrew

Well with the whole touch screen gaming thing. Why couldn’t they have done it for 3DS and/or Vita since they are just as capable if not more? I mean, it’s not like touch screen is a special thing on phones.

          • Brandonmkii

Vita would be more likely, since it uses a capacitive screen like smart phones use. Maybe it’ll get a port at some point, like dragon’s dogma quest, since there’s that whole PlayStation Mobile thing going on.

  • Testsubject909

*starts up the video* Yes I’d like to see your painting… *video ends*

    Where’s the fucking painting?

  • Heartek

Nnnnuoooooooo… list of future games of interest just restricted to MGSV and Monolith’s X…. and let’s hope the latter isn’t canceled…

    • Solomon_Kano

Why would that be cancelled, there was a new trailer at E3…

      • Heartek

Because of WiiU’s poor sales… Let’s hope not, I’m going to buy a WiiU for that game… if it doesn’t turn out too being Online only !!!

        • Solomon_Kano

Nintendo’s not cancelling a Monolith Soft game over poor sales. That’s something that would help sales.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Hope it’s cooperative.

  • ninjabart122

If “reading RPG” means that the enemies you fight will learn how you play, then I guess it’d make sense for the game to be online multiplayer. It sounds rather interesting to fight monsters that adapt to play-styles.

I’m probably wrong about this though.

  • Pockystix

I wonder how they will implement the online multiplayer

if it’s a mix of Dragon’s Domga with say, Monster hunter, it could be really cool to do sprawling quests and adventures with people, taking down chimera and the like~

  • Anime10121

Was never really interested because of the art style anyway, but being an Online only RPG pretty much guarantees I’ll be skipping out on this one.

  • wahyudil

it will come to PC anyway …

  • Dollow Rlance

“requires an internet connection…” so an MMORPG? Not Buying

  • Guest

A lot of games going online-only these days, huh.

  • Michael Q. Schmidt

I love it when I found myself in this trailer for CapCom’s new game “DEEP DOWN”. Worked on this a while back… full 3D body scans and motion capture at House Of Moves in Los Angeles. They made me bald… but the body, movement, mannerisms, and voice ARE all mine. Favorite line: “My useless magic would have me porking loin in the old market for one tenth the hassle of your empty venture.” I did plenty more that was not shared (yet) but what great fun! Neat. Should be released next month. :)

The game’s realism is because it is not CGI, but a computerization of us actors actually being filmed going through our dialog scenes in a motion catpture studio. Sword play, explosions, magic, insults, back-stabbing, envy, hate, … all that. The “warrier” is played by James C. Burns.

The “thief” is played by Scott Dawson

The grunmpy “mage” is played by me… With gusto. [email protected]
