Ace Combat Infinity, Namco Bandai’s free-to-play Ace Combat game, is headed to North America and Europe, the publisher announced this morning. The game will include a new story campaign as well as team co-op multiplayer.

“The Ace Combat franchise has set the gold standard in both graphics and dog-fighting dynamics for flight combat video games throughout its long running history,” said Chris Gilbert, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Namco Bandai Games America.

“The Project Aces team has crafted a Free-to-Play experience within Ace Combat Infinity that will allow gamers to enjoy high flying aerial warfare like never before.”

Ace Combat Infinity is slated for release on PlayStation 3 as a free download in the “latter half of 2013” in North America. Europe will get the game in 2013 as well.

Slightly disappointed that it’s a F2P would have preferred a full game. Hopefully it’s done well and the game mechanics have zero similarity to Assault Horizon hopefully it takes place in Strangereal too. Will just have to wait and see for more info i guess,

    • KuroNathan

I don’t think its taking place in strangereal, They’ve ran out of belkans to fight there I think. Still at least the trailer feels like a proper AC game, even if its future earth.

Ace combat X2 took place on earth as well but it felt more like an Ace combat game then AH did, its all about the music super weapons (IE not just a big nuke) and epic story line!

      • Lynx

        It’s a mixture.

        Think pre-Strangereal, Strangereal.

      • Brion Valkerion

Its real world locals, but the strange real planes, weapons, and situations. Which is how it should be with this series if they are not using an original world.

  • Solomon_Kano

I haven’t played an Ace Combat game since PS2 days. It was the same with Tekken before Rev, so I guess I’ll use this as my opportunity to jump back into this series.

    • KnifeAndFork

We need a PS3 Lupin game

      • Solomon_Kano

Dear heaven, yes. Would buy the hell out of that!

    • KuroNathan

you’re pretty much missed nothing since AC 0, just Assault horizon which was widely considered a meh by AC fans and Assault Horizon Legacy on the 3ds (remake of AC2, a personal favorite of mine).

oh and AC6, but I never had a 360 so I can’t comment on that one.

      • Brion Valkerion

6 was pretty great imo. The story was a mess and very cheesy but the gameplay has a lot of cool moments.

  • ChiffonCake

Starting with Rex Tremendae… does this mean that you know what I want, Namco?

    High hopes, mild expectations.

  • Cerzel

After just hearing that having more than one UNAC in Armored Core: Verdict Day will be paid DLC, I’ve lost all faith that Bamco aren’t going to completely fuck us with this. Why does it have to be Ace Combat?

  • KnifeAndFork

hershey highway to the danger zone!

  • neocatzon

Dunno about this, might try it and decide later. Pretty happy with stonehenge’s return and the music.

  • Lynx

Hope to god it’s a full game with optional stuff.

If the micro-transactions are for stuff like special weapons, planes and missions, I will rage.

Besides, the only thing I ever bought DLC-wise were the [email protected] skins.

    • KuroNathan

anime girls on planes is the best dlc!

  • I will wait to see how much content is free. If I have to pay a lot to complete story mode I”ll pass.

  • Isaac Newton

Gimme the Razgriz paint or AC3 planes and I’m one happy bear!

  • Fox

After the mediocre 6 and abysmal ACAH, my expectations are pretty goddamn low.

I’ll give it a chance… but only because it’s free. If they were charging money for this, I’d never buy it.

  • I’ve always wanted to get into this series, i’ve only played the first, maybe ill get in on this one soon
