Anime studio Trigger has met its Kickstarter goal for producing a follow-up to its immensely popular Little Witch Academia short, titled Little Witch Academia 2 (via: Anime News Network).

In addition to meeting their initial goal, Trigger have also met their stretch goal of $500,000, which will allow them to add an audio commentary track and a “making of” documentary to the Blu-Ray release of Little Witch Academia 2.

Little Witch Academia 2 is slated for release in winter 2014. Prior to that, localization studio acctil will release the first Little Witch Academia as a collector’s edition set in North America.

Thanks will support, also who gave you a thumbs down for posting a link?

Very nice. I absolutely love the first movie and wished they could actually make a series out of it. The animations are so cute and Sucy Manbavaran completely matches my sense of humor.

  • Jon Stachewicz

Yes! The characters were cute, and as someone who studies animation I was absolutely dazzled to see the whole thing play out in motion. This might be my favorite animated anything of the year, and I’m glad a sequel was greenlit

So cool! Reminds of that series The Worst Witch :D

Plus it’s great to see Japanese talents using Kickstarter services. Could be really ‘game-changing’ for indie scene over there!

Yet another Kickstarter done right. Awesome. :)
I look forward to this one as the first one was kickassingly adorable.
    Backed it too.

The Kickstarter even being attempted was a very encouraging, awesome move by Trigger and I’m so glad to see that it made it and even passed a stretch goal with flying colours. I’ve backed it for the limited edition, myself, studios reaching out to the rest of the world should be encouraged.

Thank you based Trigger. Can’t wait for Kill la Kill, hope they make a mecha anime soon.

I’m watching this now. The Art style and animation is truly top notch. Congrats on the kickstarter Trigger!

I wonder if other smaller anime or indie/doujin game companies out there will see this and consider using crowdfunding for themselves. I imagine that kickstarter isn’t nearly as used by Eastern companies, but I imagine that if a company already has a certain amount of presence in the West, like how Trigger did by releasing LWA1 to positive response, and if they campaign the idea properly, they have the potential for success.

Because it was a lot funnier than it should have been to me.

  • Dagobert

For the stretch goals they should have made where each additional 150,000$ or 200,000$ is another episode they make. I would prefer more episodes than video commentary or making of.

    looks promising.

Because it’s just awesome enough that it doesn’t have to be gaming news.
