Hometown Story Screenshots Show Character Creation And The Town

By Ishaan . August 5, 2013 . 10:00am

Natsume have released new screenshots of Hometown Story, the next game being developed by Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada. As detailed in past reports, Hometown Story involves you running a store in a small town and forming connections with its residents. Here’s a summary of the game from Amazon’s description:

A Tale of Life, Love, and Friendship! In a lush, green village tucked away in the countryside, you’ll reunite with old friends, meet new ones, and rediscover yourself. This is where you grew up, your hometown. You’ve been tasked with reviving your grandmother’s old shop, and have your work cut out for you. However, the more items you sell, the more customers will come to your shop. And as you manage your shop better, you can expand, and the village will prosper! As your shop begins to grow by selling more expensive and rare items, you’ll be able give these items to the different villagers that populate the town.

Therefore, not only will running a successful shop net you gold, but it will also help reveal the unique stories each villager has. Something insignificant to most people might be the most important thing in the world to someone else! In addition, all the villagers in your hometown have their own unique stories. Which villagers’ stories will move you the most? And what will you do to help them? At times, you will be faced with some very important decisions. You’ll be free to run your shop the way you want to. Your experiences will be completely different from anyone else’s. By the end, you’ll have experienced so many unforgettable memories.

In addition to the new screenshots, Natsume have also revealed the game’s box art, and the game is up for pre-order on both Amazon and GameStop now. Pre-ordering from GameStop will get you this limited edition plushie.

First time it ever occurred to me but in general when characters have big eyes like so don’t they worry about bugs and stuff getting in there?

    • ronin4life

They would if the insects weren’t also abnormally large as they tend to be in games like this.

      ^_^;;

      • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

Ha true, never thought of it that way.

    • Armane

They can still squint or blink. So I don’t think it would be much of a concern, especially, as ronin4life suggests, the insects are also abnormally large.

A greater concern is how the big eyes require big eyelids, giving old people trouble seeing, as you can see from these screenshots.

Oh gosh that is a more pressing concern.

The boxart is somewhat creepy. But anyway the game looks interesting altough is like a harvest moon but with a shop (which reminds me of the harvest moon game for wii ware in which you run a shop)

They still need to saw where you can preorder it to get the Red Ember Plushie. =O

I might pick this one up. Hopefully this game will be as good as any HM games as well as the Recettear game.

  • Rogerrmark

That stuff about experiencing memories and interacting with villagers looks similar to the idea Itoi had about Mother series, specially Mother 3,since he felt traditional jRPG felt like a board game.

    Before the final result,I mean.

I’ll probably take a look on this game.

    So much want <3

there’s something about the main chars that unnerve me, I think their eyes are too far down their faces or something. Or the not very obvious noses (I thought that was dust on my monitor at first)

Holy snap apple pie! It comes out on my birthday! Hello present to myself it’s nice to meet you. ( ^.^)/

  • Chim_era

I’m really going to pick it up. My only concern is that it may be too …. kiddy :3
With that box art I estimate that the sales in my country will be pretty low, unfortunately :(

After being a harvest moon fan for this much time, it’s something you get used to…. normally game isnt that kiddy and good enough, but i admit that i wish they wouldn’t put boxes so… kiddy xD…. I asked a cousin to buy harvest moon 3DS for me and he made fun of me because the box T.T.

This one isnt breaking the tradition from what i see

      • Chim_era

Haha jep you’re totally right. For me it screams girly and while I love the games I never get them sold to friends because they find them too feminine. :p

But I find this box art … a bad choice. I’ve been playing HM since the gameboy editions and it seemed like after the DS and GC ones they had more mature ones with Grand Bazaar and Two towns. I think it’s a good thing they also release it on android. It saves us the embarrassment :D

        • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Yeah, but oh well, it’s not like i wont get it anyway T-T WE CONSUMERS ARE TRAPPED

  • Philip Mark Gutierrez

Can the protagonist be a girl?

    • Triplicity

      Yes.

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Im getting it, happy they are keeping the marrying feature, more the reason to get it

  • akiko_sakuraba

Strange that there’s still no Japanese release date set.
