By Ishaan . August 6, 2013 . 12:00pm

Tales of Xillia is out in North America today, and will be available in Europe later this week. Additionally, Namco Bandai have shared a recap video of their Tales of Panel featuring Tales series producer Hideo Baba at this year’s WonderCon event. You can watch this below:

Tales of Xillia is available now for PS3 in North America. Europe will see the game this Friday. Next year, Namco Bandai will release Tales of Xillia 2 and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles HD in the west as well.

  • Smooosh

I’m still hoping for a localization of Tales of Innocence R and Hearts R, I’m primarily a handheld gamer. Especially the latter would be awesome to have.

But whatever, I’m fine with what we get. Buying Xillia later this week and waiting for Xillia 2 in the future!

    • Pyrotek85

Well if the sales for Xillia are as good as they hoped maybe they’ll reconsider it.

      • zferolie

They said the poor sells of the vita were the main reason for not bringing those games over. Even if XIllia, Xillia 2, and Symphonia HD sell extremely well, if the vita is still not selling, I am worried they still won’t bring it here…

        • Pyrotek85

You’re right it’s not hinging purely on the Tales franchise, but the console itself as well. I hope the vita’s popularity picks up soon, I feel like the longer it takes the less likely we’ll get certain games, barring some re-release in the distant future.

        • Marco Farinaccia

Yes but the Vita needs games like these in order to sell well. If every company refuses to release games on Vita because it isn’t selling well then no one is going to buy one because of a lack of games. It’s a tough position for Sony because they don’t have franchises like Mario to boost sales like Nintendo did with the 3DS.

    • Jesse Torres

Completely agree, I really want a tales game for my vita.

    • artemisthemp

Baba have said: More Vita must be sold in US for him to consider a Western release.

  • mike dickson

Good baba now give us hearts

    • zferolie

      And also Innocence

  • VietKnight

Just got my game and wondering why there is no booklet or even in game instructions lol.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

no manual? I thought a lot of publishers are doing that now.

      • VietKnight

Yeah but no digital manual also
Off topic my CE is numbered 14112

        • MrSirFeatherFang

wow, they numbered it too? no digital manual?
damn. Ni no Kuni got a great colored manual if you got the wizard edition. it still got a manual even if you bought the game regularly.

        • Demeanor

If I remember correctly the party menu has a HUGE section that covers every single part of the battle system and more, I’m talking about 100+ entries explaining anything from Dual techs to Overlimit. Isn’t that enough? O_o

        • Brandonmkii

          I’m 1182. Early adopter!

    • DesmaX

Really? At least Graces f tried to have a manual.

Oh well, nothing worse than that Last of Us Digital Manual

  • Anime10121

Amazon needs to hurry the hell up and deliver my Xillia! I’m be sleep in a minute because I have to work tonight! UPS’ lazy drivers dont knock loud enough, nor do they use the available door knocker (which is MUCH louder than using their hands) to wake me up!

    • TomSkylark

You can actually leave a note at your door saying, “UPS, Please leave packages here,” with your name written and a signature and they _should_ leave the package there. It’s not ideal for a few reasons, but I’ve had to do it when I knew they would deliver while I was away at work.

Edit: They usually still knock even if you _do_ leave a note, so if you’re home anyway you’ll definitely hear when they arrive.

      • Anime10121

Finally got it, but yeah, I may live in a better area in my city now, but even still, I stay in an apartment complex, and doing something like that is basically giving away my package.

  • Demeanor

CE shipped today!!! Now, to find a place of honor for Milla… ^ ^

  • Demeanor

Aside from new mothership titles and localizations, is there some title you guys/gals would like to see remade? My heart goes to a 2nd remake of Destiny (tho I’d be fine with a localization of the first remake…)

    • Pyrotek85

Maybe Phantasia? I still wish we had gotten the PSX version localized, instead of getting a GBA version.

      • Demeanor

I played at least a couple of Phantasia remakes, plus Narikiri Dungeon X that felt basically like Phantasia-2 XD so I’m not hurting for a remake of Cress and co. Still, they are one of my favourite Tales cast (second maybe only to Destiny’s) and it would be really awesome to see the Jikuuken arts with current gen 3d graphics (yeah I know, broken record, but I just LOVE the artes and hi-ougis that Tales games have to offer).
I’m also really looking forward to the Symphonia remake, never played the original and the 2nd game.

        • Tienron

legendia needs full blown remake that and maybe eternia i would love to see phantasia get a full remake and not a half ass port to be honest

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

There’s an excellent fan-translation of the PSX version out there.

        • Pyrotek85

          Yep I’ve played it.

    • Draparde

I’d like to see a Eternia remake. (if only to play as Ferah again lol)

      • Demeanor

Excellent choice, Eternia really never got extra love, we only have the original game. Imo the characters are not the best in the series, but the game had a certain charm to it, and I’d love to see a modern version of the Aurora skills!

      • seyEliveD

I’d love to see this as well; so much character development was lost when they decided to not include the skits, it’s almost a completely different game to play.

        • Pyrotek85

Yeah it has felt a little bland on my PSP playthrough atm. I hate when they cut stuff, yet another reason I’d rather they not dub if it means lost content.

    • Guest

      Port or remake?

      • Demeanor

      • Honestly rather a whole new title than remakes. Remakes can be cute, but I actually dig the “enhanced port” of a previous title (eg; Symphonia) and focus more assets on a brand-spankin-new title instead.

    • Xillia

I would like to see a remake for every Tales title on the ps1, those old graphics wouldn’t let me be excited to try those games out .

    • shadowind

I’d definitely love to see remakes of both Tales of Destiny games myself, especially if they did them in a Collection form like they’re doing for Tales of Symphonia.

    • no one

In terms of need for a remake, I think Tales of the Tempest takes the cake.

      • Bec66

Supposedly that may come soon considering they kind of teased it in Innocence R along with a Hearts remake that was made soon after Innocence R’s Release.

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Why not just leave it alone and make a better game?

        • no one

Because Tempest is salvageable. The battle system would have been passable if the AI was better and direct commands could be issued to CPU-controlled allies. Otherwise, the music was solid and the story started decently.

Most of Tempest’s issues (e.g. terrible menu navigation) are straightforward to fix. The most challenging aspect would be expanding the cast of characters and lengthening the story.

          • Zoozbuh

….Buuuut the whole concept of the story/characters was ridiculous in itself? There clearly wasn’t as much thought put into it, compared to other Tales games. I actually didn’t mind the battles a whole lot- they were ridiculously easy and simplified, but I think the dull story was the real problem…

    • kroufonz

      2D tales/ team destiny game.

or remake of any non localized tales

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

      eternia 3d remake

  • brian

I remember about 6 years ago I went to the tales forum and that was the reason I found out about Tales of Legendia.
They could use that as free advertising, but it it seems like they’re doing well anyway.

Does anyone else think this is weird?

    • fireguardiancoty

They have to get the ok from NB to change it. They were gonna change it, but something didn’t happen on someone’s end I think.

  • Learii

    I can’t wait for more

  • harmonyworld

Good bye life for the next two weeks~
    Xillia owns me now~

  • Niyari

so is Vesperia in licensing hell or something? i’ve never been able to find a definite reason as to why it hasn’t been brought over

    • fireguardiancoty

      Reasons. :P

It wouldn’t be a good thing to do at this point. The game itself is 5 years old this year. Plus, they want to close the localization gap. They can’t do that if they work on an old port.

      • Niyari

it just seems odd to bring a slightly updated version of Symphonia to PS3 and not mention anything about Vesperia in the process. oh well!

        • fireguardiancoty

You never know, maybe something will happen for its 10th anniversary.

    • Bobby Jennings

Many reasons. just forget about it and keep moving.

    • XaviIniesta

Yeah, I still want Vesperia on PS3 outside of Japan. With all the extras it has.

  • Just Tim

Hey, Mr. Baba, why not share a sincere “Thank You” to Akira Toriyama AND Masashi Kishimoto? The fact that Namco Bandai has the respective game licenses for Dragon Ball and Naruto and their worldwide game rights profits are singlehandedly funding Tales’ worldwide releases.

    • Bobby Jennings

I don’t think it works that way.

  • artemisthemp

I really wish Hideo Baba gave green light to release a HD version of Tales of Phantasia or even better a Tales of Anniversary Edition – HD version of all the Tales games up to and including Vesperia + Tales of Hearts and Innocence R and released it in the West

  • XaviIniesta

Going by this video I’m not sure I like Milla’s English voice actor. I’ll have to look up more English clips of Milla, so maybe I’ll change my mind. But is Japanese voice overs an option in this game?
I forget if that’s usually the case in tales games or not.

    • no one

Nope, Tales of Xillia is English dub only, like all officially localized Tales games up to this point. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles will be the first to have dual audio.

But yeah it’s a bit of a shame, as Miyuki Sawashiro is one of the most popular female seiyuu.

      • XaviIniesta

Yeah, for example, she voiced Celty from Durarara. While I haven’t yet heard how she voices Milla, I don’t imagine her voice or tone being similar to what Minae Noji is doing here in the English version. I will compare the two and see though.
Just a shame that I might not like the voice of the character that I’m mostly interested in in this game. But I will wait and see what I think once I play the game of course.

And I hope that Dual language becomes standard after Tales of Symphonia Chronicles if enough fans show Namco their appreciation.
