Yup, it’s happening. The King of Fighters XIII is coming to PC via Steam, and you can pre-purchase the game now, saving yourself 17% on the price.

The PC version of the game, titled The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition, will feature improvements to the game’s Online, Tutorial and Story modes, and will include the “Iori with the Power of Flames,” “Mr. Karate” and “NESTS Style Kyo” DLC from the start.

With regard to online multiplayer, SNK Playmore say that The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition will feature “vastly improved netcode” with improved communication speeds and the ability to tailor your online experience according to your PC environment. Additionally, a “Graphics Option” feature will allow you to switch between different framerates and simplify backgrounds.

The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition will be available on September 13th for $30.

“vastly improved netcode” #Kappa sure…. but again they couldnt use ggpo

    • Tee Niitris

I remember SNKP saying that they tried GGPO (before the release of the console version) and didn’t like the results.

  • JustThisOne

Aw man, that sounds awesome. *__* Too bad my computer’s probably too flimsy to handle it.

Guess I’ll just enjoy my PS3 version instead~ *dances*

    • A Bomb!

The minimum requirements are a Pentium 4 2 Ghz and a Geforce 9500. So there’s a good chance this isn’t the case.

      • JustThisOne

        Hmm. Well, I guess that’s half the requirements… I’ll test my luck, maybe? ;__;

After all the Evo hype, I’m really excited to see it more readily available. Especially after hearing about the nightmarish netcode.

    KoF XIV news anytime soon?

  • Chaos_Knight

Am I the only that keeps staring at Mai?

So… are they fixing the netcode of the PS3/360 versions? I suck at fighting games but I’d still like to play the game online without hitches.

I’m (hopelessly) optimistic that this time it’s for real. SNKP noted that in their recruitment page a few months ago that (on top of graphic designers and programmers) they were looking for people who were experienced in C/C++ Protocol connection (basically people who can work with netcode). Perhaps these are the people who hopefully improved XIII’s online.

    Page is in Japanese:

Also, 13’s online was a big improvement over 12. But of course, 12 was one of the worst online experiences of this gaming generation. 13’s online is at least on par with MK9 (which still isn’t good obviously, but miles better than it’s predecessor).

As a fellow Mexican it is my duty to partake in more KOF goodness.

I feel obliged to destroy people with Ralf.

So many PC games… think I’ll actually bite on this one, if only because I want to support KOF. Though I wonder if the netcode from this version will be given to the console versions in some kind of patch, or if this will stand out as the superior version due to better netcode. One wonders how big a part of the playerbase will even play this version though…

Looking forward to this finally heading to the PC.

  • Erwin MadJelly

IF SSF IV came for steam, then why can’t KOF XIII?! I’m glad this has finally happened, will save up and Pre order when it’s near release date.

  • CirnoLakes

Fantastic! Just what the PC needs, more fighting games!

I’m really looking forward to the future thanks to things like this.
