Persona 3 To See Live Stage Play In 2014

By Ishaan . August 13, 2013 . 9:30am

In addition to the upcoming Persona 3 movies, the game is also receiving a live-action stage play, just like Persona 4 before it.

The news was announced via pamphlets distributed at the Persona Music Fes 2013 event today, and the play is scheduled to open in January 2014 the G-Rosso theatre at Tokyo Dome City.

The pamphlets use the title Persona 3: The Weird Masquerade, and interestingly they feature both the male lead as well as the female lead from Persona 3 Portable. So far, Atlus have made no mention of the female lead with regard to the Persona 3 movies.

Persona composer Shoji Meguro will be lending his musical talents to the play. Production is being handled by a company named CLIE.

I feel like the overall more dramatic main story of Persona 3 lends itself better to a play than Persona 4 does. Persona 4 had great writing and character interactions, but the plot itself wasn’t too amazing (the highlights were rescuing your team members, and even that falls back onto the character interactions as it tells you more about their wishes and troubles).

And let’s not forget the whole greek tragedy “you-cannot-fight-fate” concept of the game, which is already very theatrical.

I want a vita version with the answer (both male and female).

Maybe a 3ds version? Atlus is all pretty buddy with nintendo. I wouldn’t mind either one really since I own both a 3ds and vita

      • Niyari

wouldn’t be much of a upgrade from the PSP version.. if at all.

I don’t know if they can fit full on action RPGs like tales of the abyss I think they can handle persona 3. they could just port the PlayStation 2 version like they did with tales of the abyss then just add the girl story or the answer

  • Herok♞

I would love to see how they would balance both the Male and Female protag if they did it somehow where both were plot relevant and not a throwaway gag character

    • KuroNathan

hm, now I’m thinking of various throwaway lazy gags. *ESPER JUMPER* *MY OWN CLONE NOW etc etc* *I AM THOUGH AND THOUGH ART I* *Teddie but a girl*

  • Sardorim

Oh gawd… They want to give rise to Minato x Minako.

    • Göran Isacson

… If they actually get around to doing it, think of the terrible jokes we could make. THINK OF THE JOKES.

“yo dawg i heard u like minato so we put minato in ur minako”
      “We have to go deeper.”

  • amagidyne

The Weird Masquerade makes it sound like a side-story, which is a much better idea than having actors mime that they’re climbing Tartarus.

  • Vitor Duarte

Persona 3 Vita ; coming soon.
