Shin Megami Tensei IV’s New DLC Has You Fight God’s Caretaker

By Ishaan . August 13, 2013 . 9:00am

This week’s batch of Shin Megami Tensei IV DLC consists of just one new quest, but this one is another Challenge Quest connected to the main story.

Titled “Ancient One of the Sun,” the quest costs $2.49 and has you challenging the Ancient of Days, the caretaker of god. Once you complete the quest, you can fuse Godly Ancient of Days.

It is recommended that you take this quest on after completing the game.

It should be pointed out that it is only “connected to the main story” in that it loosely relates to a character. It is not a continuation of the story.

    • Sardorim

Technically it is a continuation as it deals with the aftermath of a story event and progresses the story for certain characters as well as leaving more hints to try and figure out who certain Beings and yourself actually are.

They look like the trumpets that sound Armageddon. But weren’t there 7 trumpets?

    • malek86

Maybe he takes out the seventh trumpet in one of his Almighty skills. Imagine the damage output.

    • Kyle McDaniel

      It’s not the trumpets though.

The “Ancient of Days” is actually another name for God himself but it looks like Atlus changed it to his “caretaker” as to not to offend people.

      • Joseph Santee

Nope, it’s in-game description still says the Ancient of Days is God. Atlus didn’t change it.

    • Tooru

You might be confusing him for something out of Revelations; the Ancient of Days is actually a being out of one of the parts of Daniel. I can’t remember his exact description, though.

  • Laith Rem

    Protip: Don’t hit his weakness.

    • DyLaN

      I’m curious. Plz explain.

    • Hinataharem

I’m guessing he has a counter measure

      • Sardorim

He casts Diaharan at the start of his turn if you do. So use Stigmata Strike to “Brand” him so he only heals for 1 HP.

        • Hinataharem

That sounds annoying. Thanks for the tip!

    • Sardorim

Hit it than smack him with Stigmata Strike.

Watch him cry at healing only 1 HP.

I’m having mad trouble with Gabriel. I had beaten the game, but I thought the end game save would’ve left me before the final battle, not new game +, so my team is gone, and i didn’t overwrite them for the book…. I’ll get to CW 2 and this after I’m done with Mario and Luigi.

    • Sardorim

Use Alice + Doping for Gabriel and have a Demon that Repels her attack as Pierce doesn’t go over Repel. This will severely cut at Gabriel’s Turn count.

  • Kyle McDaniel

I’d suggest beating both of the Clipped Wings challenge quests before going into this DLC.

  • kmantle

    Looks very bayonetta-ish

Ancient of Days, the caretaker of God? I think I’ll research a little bit about him. That’s why I LOVE SMT!

Interesting, going to buy this dlc, the new boss looks awesome.
