You Can Now Share Nintendo 3DS Screenshots Via Twitter, Tumblr And Facebook

Back in April, Nintendo launched a screenshot-sharing app for the Nintendo 3DS that allowed one to share screenshots of two specific games via Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook—Animal Crossing: New Leaf and, in Japan, Tomodachi Collection.

Now, the app has been updated to allow you to share screenshots from other games as well. We tested the feature out with Style Savvy: Trendsetters and Crashmo, and Nintendo say the feature will work with Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!, too. The app likely supports other 3DS games that let you take screenshots as well.

Here’s a quick guide to sharing screenshots:

1. Open up the Nintendo 3DS browser, go to

2. Log in to your Twitter, Tumblr or Facebook on the page

3. Tap the Browse button to find a screenshot on your 3DS

4. Once you select a screenshot, you can leave a message

5. In the case of Twitter, you can use @ to tweet at somebody

6. Hashtags for games are added automatically on Twitter as well

Note that screenshots will not be posted in stereoscopic 3D. This was possible at one time via Twitpic, but it doesn’t seem to work any more.

  • How about they just let any game take a screenshot?

    • Flyron

Sounds to me, like they do! But few games implement that feature.

      • Ferofax

Needs firmware integration. Possible if they update the game, but that means specific updates for specific games.

Better if they go the firmware route. A good example? See the Game Notes feature. You can freeze any 3DS game AT ANY POINT IN THE GAME (as long as it’s not multiplayer or disables the Home button), and you can see the screenie of both the top screen (in 3D) and the bottom screen.

The only thing lacking is a SAVE SCREEN button. The Export button is for exporting the doodles you make, not for the screens. Talk about wasted potential, eh?

they sould update the 3ds to take screenshots for any game, I only have animal crossing & nintendogs+cats with that option…

  • LexKitteh

Photos I took with the camera showed up as selectable, but then it says photos from this software are not supported. Why block this, Nintendo? DSi could do it. :/

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This is a very great news for us who play Style Savvy here. Can’t wait to show to everyone how cool my char is.^_^

  • KHSoraKeyBlade

It’ll be good when Smash Bros comes to the 3DS and you can share screenshots.

But I really wish they’d let you take a screenshot of any game like the Vita does…

    • SHSL Big Bro

      to be fair, I think the only place Vita can’t take screenshots is PSP games ;-;

  • They should something like Wii U with miiverse. Stop the game open browser and the current screen will be there to be posted.

  • I would also suggest them to add other social media support like Google+, Flickr, imgur, Photobucket, Instagram, Windows Live, and Pinterest (which @NintendoAmerica just announced their official page today).

Also, it would be nice if we could adjust the tweet settings (whether or not to include the auto-hashtag) because sometimes I like to have the hashtag placed at the beginning of my tweet or somewhere else within my message. The app doesn’t recognize that we’ve already included the same hashtag in our message either. It doesn’t let you use all max 140 characters of the tweet. It should know that Twitter automatically shortens URLs so the number characters of those are important too.

  • This is not compatible with the only 3DS game I am interested at right now: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
