Indie rogue-like The Binding of Isaac is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2014 as an updated version of the original game, titled The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a remake of the original with expanded gameplay, more playable characters, story, enemies and items. The game will feature overhauled graphics in a new 16-bit style as well, and will be published by Nicalis.

Here’s a rundown of the features in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth:

  • Local co-op multiplayer
  • Competitive loadouts
  • “50-percent” new content
  • Steam discount for those that own the original game
  • New playable characters
  • Several new challenge runs

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth will be available in 2014, but Nicalis haven’t announced a date beyond that.

Why was this made in the first place?

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

to make you buy new pants because you pissed in the ones you already own

To expose how Nintendo refuses to allow even the most minorly controversial titles come to their systems.

Look it up; originally supposed to be a 3DS game, but Nintendo still believes in protecting their ‘family aesthetic’ and eventually backed out of their proposition.

If you could have local co-op, surely it can’t hurt to add ONLINE CO-OP. smh

    • hickorypan

Those are very different things though, online multiplayer takes a lot more effort to make. :(

      • almostautumn

But it’s that extra effort that really counts

Good old nightmare fuelish trailers as always. Can’t wait for this and Don’t Starve to hit Vita. Thanks to Sony I hardly touch my PC anymore outside of WoW.

  • EdgeKun

I can’t count the number of hours I’ve plunked into this game on Steam (well, the not so Rebirth version anyway) and yet I still find myself eagerly awaiting a portable version I can play anywhere. Can’t wait!

(Also, that Steam discount thing is great. Glad to see them rewarding their existing user base!)

  • Smooosh

Binding of Isaac on a portable system? Awesome!
Loved the original, looking forward to the remake.

  • Foryth

This game is awesome, I’m looking forward to this. This is almost the only game one of my friends plays.

    That’s one terrifying trailer.

  • Solomon_Kano

That teaser was like 15 different kinds of creepy.

    • malek86

Watch the original trailer then, it’s kind of unsettling.

      • Solomon_Kano

Hm. Not sure if want lol.

“Steam discount for those that own the original game”

We already knew it was coming, but nice anyway. Especially since I Platinum God’ed the first game + DLC, so I’m not sure I would feel like restarting it from scratch without some incentive to do so (technically, the graphics are supposed to be actually worse this time, like a 16-bit game, but at least it should run well on netbooks).

Nice. Getting it on PC first.

I do wonder how they will give out those price cuts to Steam owners. Will PSN somehow know whats on my Steam account? An are there any pictures of the new graphical style available yet?

    • doubleO7

It is possible to link your PS3 to Steam. Valve games primarily use this feature (such as Portal 2 and CS:GO).

  • Cephrien

NO. I DON’T WANT TO GO BACK.

I DON’T WANT TO GO BACK TO THE BASEMENT.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Wasn’t this supposed to come out on PS3 in January of this year?

Well, I’m not sleeping tonight, now.

  • Skye Johnson

….That was several shades of disturbing.

    Mission accomplished, I suppose.

    • Anime10121

I think you mean, several shades of AWESOME! I love freaky ish like this :D

      • Skye Johnson

I would have to play to see. But it made me think of James and the Giant Peach…. if it were a horror game.

  • SpaceOfSoul

I don’t know where I have been but, I’ve never heard/played binding of Isaac. So now I have something to look forward to :)
