Sonic Lost World’s NiGHTS DLC Can Be Accessed At Any Time

The Sonic Lost World Deadly Six Bonus Edition is coming to the U.S., Sega America have confirmed. As reported yesterday, this edition of the game features extra bosses in the Wii U version of Lost World, inspired by Sega’s NiGHTS into Dreams game.

Sega have now provided additional details beyond what we initially knew. For starters, the new bosses will be present in a single level, which you’ll be able to access via a download code. The DLC can be played at any point in the game, and when you complete the DLC level, you’ll unlock a special Color Power, which is otherwise only available through Miiverse.

The Sonic Lost World Deadly Six Bonus Edition is available via pre-order or while supplies last in North America and Europe.

I thought that by sticking with the Wii U I would be able to avoid day-one DLC like this.

It’s not just day one. apparently you either get it now, or never. I talk about it in my article, at the bottom with my convo with sega.

The only platforms in the clear from DLC exploitation nowadays are the DS (not getting many games now) or the PSP which has been moved out for the Vita more or less even in Japan.

It’s a cheaper method of giving an incentive to buyers to get a game early than limited editions. Chances are if you are in the story and just missed out, you will either look harder or buy the normal edition… :/

And Japan? I don’t live there, but if they are going to have limited supply and be assholes to some extent… They may as well soften the blow for the few Japanese fans out there who contributed artwork to this.

How is rewarding people who are willing to buy it new considered asshole behavior?

      • British_Otaku

Inversely, it’s punishing the people who buy it late even if it is a new copy. More or less every other Sonic game has all of the content, right there. No jumping through hoops to buy content, to insure you have the limited print run of so and so many copies (I’m sure stock of this won’t reach Australia or most of Europe, not even considering Japan) and such.

The only things I consider to be rewarding early buyers are lowering the price or giving physical goodies (shirts, CDs, art books, pointless trinkets) which don’t immediately detract from the experience if you were a little late or there were none at your store.

        • Brutal2D

But this is all optional. This doesn’t effect the game at all in anyway.

No different than getting collectors editions.

All game companies get their profits for the first 2to3 months of sales of a new game. Ever wonder why sale prices drop like a rock? Because they’re not making anything anymore.

So, with that, what do you do? How do you get people to buy something and ensure a sale, reward the loyal customers yet not isolate the second hand ones?

          • British_Otaku

Collector’s Editions tend to be focused on physical trinkets and the content usually ends up in a Game of the Year edition or on the online store within a month or so.

I’ll be hostile until AND after it happens, if it happens as the idea of content which is announced before the game even released not being on the default version on the game and being limited to so and so codes is terrible. The idea that till recently, American players thought they were going to miss out on NiGHTS in a Sonic game and even now it’s limited is terrible.

I agree that all of it is optional as the focus is the Deadly Six Sins’ defeat (and the inevitably seventh that will be a transformation, fusion or go out of control or whatever), still I don’t like the idea of missing out on content or an exclusive Color Power because my Wii U is the wrong region or the copies ran out of stock.

          • Brutal2D

They stated it will not be available later. I’d link it, but I am under an agreement with siliconera not to post my site.

The pinball stage for sonic generations never became available either.

          • British_Otaku

I have read your article now and it has justified my concern even more, though I am still suspicious that they will try to bank on both markets the early buyers and the people who have a copy a month or so late.

Like with Generations which I haven’t played yet, the pinball stage, if you mean Casino Night, you can get it on all of the original platforms for cheap (see Steam: ) even though it was also a preorder bonus from GameStop.

If they keep the content exclusive, I still need to see a convincing product and perhaps play a demo before I decide to order early. I will still be bitter on the behalf of others who are in the wrong country or region. If they don’t, the DLC is a tool exclusively to promote the game when it is convenient for them and chances are the content may not get released everywhere on top of the price increase (they were cheap with Casino Night so maybe we will get lucky again). Plenty of people with no debit/credit card access play Sonic. >_>

EDIT: Deleted the link, I don’t see why they should be a problem with referencing a few Twitter messages hosted in the site. It isn’t self plugging… Whatever… >_>

No, you can’t get it on 360 or PS3. I have the game. Didn’t know about steam though, but we all know how steam is.

Unless they just released it. I don’t know, I imported the collectors edition.

          • British_Otaku

My PS3 is dead and I don’t have a 360, so I can’t check that so easily, but the information that I find on here ( ) implies that yes it was never released for the consoles again… Yeah.

We’ll see how SEGA behaves this time, if they don’t make it avaliable, it will be a nice treat for the early buyers and watched on Youtube by most of the others (including all fans outside of PAL or NA) for decades to come.

    • AnimeRemix

Japan is getting the DLC just like everyone else. So…

      • British_Otaku

Sounds better than I assumed, but even if they cover all three regions, it comes across as a terrible move from them to lock content to limited copies and codes which expire and are not transferable in any form but trading systems or a system transfer if that.

I’ve gone into why SEGA have more or less lost on this front whether they decide to go for all of the regions or not or keep it exclusive to the early buyers or not below.

The music in this video was a LOT better than the english one.
