Sony Creates "Third Party Production" Group To Bring More Games To PlayStation

By Ishaan . August 31, 2013 . 3:12am

Sony have created a new department called “Third Party Production” for their PlayStation business. This group, which is part of PlayStation’s Third Party Relations team will work closely with publishers to bring their games to Sony platforms.

Here’s what to expect, says Gio Corsi, Director of Third Party Production for Sony Computer Entertainment America:

This means you’ll see even more great games on PlayStation platforms, including new IP’s, ports, and localized products. In addition, our partners who are currently in production will have us as a resource to strengthen their development process, ensuring quality and consistency on all Third Party projects.

The Third Party Production groups’ first project is a port of Borderlands 2 for Vita. Sony announced recently that they were publishing the game themselves.

  • rorschacht

    Yakuza 5 pls

  • Dede Ogbe

Smart. Very Smart lol. Sony has a problem getting support for the Vita so what do they do? They create their own damn third party production team lol brilliant. Everyone go to this guys twitter and bug him for Type-0 and PSO2. It’s about damn time those games made it over here

  • Rashid Al Rabah

Valkyria Chronicles 3 Now! And Tales of Vesperia, Please…
I think I’m hoping way too hard here. SEGA and Namco.. Sigh

    • bigboss09

me too I am hope for these games to come
by the way are you an Arabian ? because your name is in arabic

      • Rashid Al Rabah

Yeah I am. I am happy they brought Tales of Xillia and Graces, now all I can do is hope for Vesperia.

        • Alestaos

As well as Tales of Hearts R for the vita and Tales of Innonnece r for the vita too and we would be golden! I so badly want Hearts R xD

          • Rashid Al Rabah

Oh god I totally agree! Also imagine a remake of Rebirth… I might explode….

          • Alestaos

I’m glad i watched some Hearts R videos and some jap reviews of it and i just feel in love with it i love the sound of the story. I could see maybe abyss on the vita too…or maybe vespira ps3 version onto the vita *_*

I havent seen or heard of rebirth whats it like?

          • Rashid Al Rabah

I would love me some Abyss <3 I just wish Go Shiina would do more Tales music, I like him more than Overrated Motoi.

Some of my friends who love RPG would arguably say that Tales of Rebirth is the best Tales back then, it's a gem that didn't get localized. :/

          • Alestaos

Yeah abyss is one of my faves, and whats rebirth storyvall about and that was the way with Tales beforevSymphonia and even then we have only just started our tales of fixes. Man i would love a tales of fighing game similar to FFs dissida system etc

          • Rashid Al Rabah

I currently own all the localized Tales games including their ports (Abyss)
There is a fighting Tales game known as Tales of Vs. which is on the PSP and only released in Japan I believe. It’s like a brawler I think.

          • Alestaos

Im aware of it but from what i have seen it isnt dissida like, theres some great videos of dissida on youtube so you could get a sense of the gameplay im meaning. I still play both versions defiantley one of squares better projects.

          • Rashid Al Rabah

I did play Dissidia. I loved the music a lot! I’d like to see it on the big screen if you know what I mean.

          • Alestaos

Oh yeah i think its a wish of everyones to see that. I wonder if FF vs Tales in dissida style woud sell well

          • Rashid Al Rabah

We wouldn’t know to be honest, cross overs most of the time are really bad. I wouldn’t know I meal FF and Tales are one of the top 3 RPG franchises in Japan.

    • DyLaN

Sorry to disappoint you, but I believe Vesperia PS3 is most likely a lost cause. Btw, there is an english patch for Vesperia PS3 in the making last I checked.

      • LM009

its also on 360 so what’s the point? o_O

        • Not everyone has a 360, and might not want to purchase one just for one game.

          • NBXX

Actually i am just for that game :/

          • Rashid Al Rabah

Yeah I have the same problem, I might actually end up buying one for Vesperia :/ I mean I already have the game on 360 though I don’t own a 360, part of my collection.

        • Mental

The PS3 version has more contentincluding some more playable characters, sidequests, & bosses.

        • Kolibri

Lots of people hate X360 here.

      • tirnoth

That english patch is about the same lost cause…that’s been going on for about two years now and still nothing to date. Good luck getting past the firmware.

  • bigboss09

hope to see tales on the vita come to US

    • Altin

I think that Corsi is also on twitter. I might suggest to name him some games there.

    • artemisthemp

I could see Hidea Baba localize a Tales for Vita, if the sales is good enough in US after price drop.

    • Pdugna

yes those Tales games i will buy in a heartbeat…then 2014 can be the tales year for me…ToX1-2 ToSHD collection and ToHR and ToIR

  • Shady Shariest

“This ain’t no place for no hero./This ain’t no place for no better man…”
So please release here in EU, too :3

  • LM009

I hope they can pull vita around, system itself is awesome but library is suffering. With price drop and this maybe they can turn it around.

  • Razzlero

I like the mention of “Localised Products”.
There are far too many good games which don’t make their way to EU. Especially Vita games.

  • Zeonsilt

    • epndkempot

      > Xenogears HD
It should have a proper gameplay in second disc

      • Zeonsilt

Yes,the second disc was like… ripped by 70% of it’s content.

        • Totally agree, when I first time playing the second disk I was like.. okay, when I can control my char back??

    • Demeanor

You forgot Legend of Dragoon in your list of Awesomeness. :D

      • Zeonsilt

        Ninja-fix !

        • Demeanor

Mmm… a Shadow Hearts 4 featuring Yuri again (like, Yuri against the Nazis in WWW2 OMG that would be awesome) and a proper treatment of Parasite Eve would also do well in that list, I think :D

    • Wtv

I would be happy if they just put Star Ocean 1 and 2 on PSN. I really wanna buy those games, but only have a Vita.

Also, a Valkyrie Profile Hrist would be great.

    • Malon

Allow me to call you “Mr.Bringgoodideas”.

      • Zeonsilt

    • Spider-Man

Great list, but the lack of Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus and Gods Eater 2 has me disappoint.

      • Solomon_Kano

Xseed is bringing Burst and they support Vita more than anyone else, so there’s little reason to include Shinovi Versus. Just a matter of waiting.

        • Spider-Man

Well in that case, I’ll hope for Gods Eater 2 and Type-0.

          • Solomon_Kano

Good choices. You should ask for them on PS Blog or Twitter, if you haven’t. The more people they hear from, the more likely you are to see them try for what you want.

          • Spider-Man

Oh I asked all right. <:) I am desperate for those two.

          • Solomon_Kano

Let’s hope it works out, then!

    • Pdugna

everything on there minus monster hunter Vita, FF7 remake and Legends 3 could actually work…

    • zizzx

Drakengard 3, I need this in my life!

  • This is what I like to hear! :D Looking forward to any and all announcements from Sony.

  • Randgriz

Heres hpong they collaberate with third parties from the east and the west alike.

    • Solomon_Kano

They mentioned “localized products,” but I doubt they’ll limit their contact with eastern 3rd parties to simply localizing games.

They’re taking requests on PS Blog and Twitter though, so be sure to speak up if there’s anything you want in particular!

  • tubers

    “…localized products”

    Yes, yes, keep talking. :)

“…ensuring quality and consistency on all Third Party projects.”

I hope this finally stops the questionable framerates of upcoming VITA games like what happened with NGS2+ and NLKS.

Shouldn’t be limited to your 3rd party thought (J&D and R&C ports).

    • Solomon_Kano

Both collections were handled by third party developers, so this should affect future HD collections.

    • Pdugna

The group that made the J&D collection made me so mad at the games….and they are my most favorite games of all time…soo many deaths to stupid glitches in the ps3 and vita version of the games…

  • Sentsuizan_93

    “Third Party Production”
I’m liking the sound of this already…..

  • sherimae1324

it very nice move of SCEA

in this way the vita can get 3rd party games even if sony will be the one to publish it ^_^

all sony needs to do is find a capable developers of porting games for vita ^_^

  • Mental

    “localized products”
I dunno how anyone else feels, but if this means listening to fan demand, I’m all for it.

    • Solomon_Kano

They’re taking requests, so it’s definitely about fan demand.

      • John Pena

May I ask were they taking fan demand?

        • Solomon_Kano

In the comments here on PS Blog:

And on Gio Corsi’s (the head of this new group) Twitter:

          • Doing good work Solomon! I wanted to start the bombardment of requests but I was more curious about the hiring process and formation of the group.

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I hit Corsi with a few titles on Twitter as soon as this came up, but I’d like to hear more about the group itself. It’s an interesting initiative on Sony’s part.

          • I will say this should have been a thing for a while now. At least the localization part. The porting aspect is great. Nintendo could do with that component as well.

          • Solomon_Kano

Hm. I don’t know that Nintendo could really make good use of the porting part, unless you’re talking about for Wii U. In which case, they’re getting ports, just ports that are so late that they don’t really have an audience. Something along those lines to ensure multiplatform games stop skipping Wii U would be very welcome though.

          • That’s exactly it. Nintendo shouldn’t be missing those ports and maybe if they had such a team
They could get games/devs that haven’t been on the platform too.

          • Solomon_Kano

Unfortunately for them, based on comments from developers, I don’t think a team like that would even help now that we’re moving out of PS360.

Bethesda, for instance, has pretty much said none of their games will ever be on Wii U because they’re designed with the PS4 and X1’s capabilities with mind, because Nintendo kept everyone out of the loop on the Wii U’s hardware. EA essentially said the same, in so many words.

So, unfortunately, they’ve got a tougher situation. Some good 3rd-party relations won’t be enough for the Wii U. They could at least try to get the rest of the high profile current gen games and cross-gen titles though. No GTA V is baaaaad.

          • While it’s true that the situation is tougher now, sometimes you just need to lay down the foundation. They also need to use those money hats.

          • Solomon_Kano

Money hats would definitely help, though Nintendo seems to favor partnerships and such. We’re a bit beyond that by this point though. Well, hopefully we’ll see something change as we move into next year.

  • ajneez

wooow!!!! now they bring to us all of TECMO KOEI games to EU

  • XCOM and Journey Collector’s edition please.

  • Guest

Sony forgets that consumers want first party titles as well? This why the 3DS dominates. The library is a mixture of both first/third party titles.

  • Mugen555

    Type-0, GE2, SRW OGs2

  • z_merquise

This sounds good. Here’s hoping that Sony could help out smaller developers to be noticed.

    Also this:
This means you’ll see even more great games on PlayStation platforms, including new IP’s, ports, and localized products

    Yes, please!

  • SirRichard

Sounds like it could be very, very promising stuff and probably exactly what the Vita needs most of all: lots of support. Let’s see what else they can swing.

  • malek86

If their first project is a port of Borderlands 2 to the PSV (a game that will be a two-years late port by the time it comes out), I think they need to set their priorities straight. This is not the kind of game that will attract buyers. It’s as ill-fated as Deus Ex on the Wii U.

  • Anime10121

Gave my two four cents. What did I ask for?

    Type 0
    Drakengard 3
Legends 3 though admittedly this has a -0% of happening (and yes I added a negative to zero)
    Tales of Vesperia PS3

    Make it happen Sony!

I’d even settle for 1 outta the four, though 2 and I me and you Sony will be BFF’s 4EVAR!

    • z_merquise

I still remember that Sony rep guy who asked in Twitter what Japanese RPGs people wanted to see localize and FF Type 0 and Valkyria Chronicles 3 are among the games that get many votes.

I hope they live up to their promise regarding localization. I still won’t give up for Valkyria Chronicles 3.

  • lorelai4cuties

final fantasy tyep 0 HD for Vita ..please

  • XiaomuArisu

    Sounds good.
    So continue,please

  • Arcana Wiz

Type zero and Valkyria chronicles 3 was digital dowload to be compatoble to vita.
God Eater 2, Tales Vita, Extreta and Conception 2 fot the Vita…….
    One can hope right;D

  • Isaac Newton

I Hope the Third Party Production can really deliver it good. :D

So about ports how about Skyrim or Ni No Kuni LOL
For localization how about PSO2, FF Type Zero, Suikoden: Woven Web of Century or Yakuza 5.
For sequels how about Ape Escape or Syphon Filter or damn so many good ol classics XD…
For new IPs well just surprise me Baby!!!

  • Judgephoenix

so that twitter account that is on that sony website is supposed to help with localization? If so I would like some .hack digital download on PSN lol

  • darkfox1

Yes yes I feel happiness reading everyone’s game request. More games are always good!

  • d19xx

One of the best news I’ve heard so far.

  • Learii

I hope I see AQL games loocalized

  • Kami nii

Its All Part of the Plan :)

  • Tincho D

I want more playstation japanese games, don’t care about western ones.

  • Eefara

Welp, I’ve added my voice for the Tales crowd. Innocence R, Hearts R, and Vesperia PS3, GO!

    • fireguardiancoty

Vesperia PS3 is a lost cause. NB has already said no to that, and to stop asking about it. Innocence and Hearts R are more likely.

      • Eefara

Oh, I’m well aware they told fans that they wouldn’t be doing it.

  • ReidHershel

Everyone…please…tweet or comment on this article for Sakura Wars, it’ll be awesome :D

  • TrevHead

More traditional Japanese Action / niche arcade games I’d like Sony to support more. Help stem the shift of Japanese devs moving to handhelds & phones.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I’m sure everyone else has already mentioned most of the games I would like to see ported and/or localized over to Sony consoles and portables. I hope some really good things come from this initiative.

  • Shenmue please.

  • Ethan_Twain

Well yeah? I would assume that all three console manufacturers have divisions dedicated to securing content from third party content creators. This sounds more like a reorganization than a crazy new initiative.

  • Tooru

Localized products? Now that sounds interesting! Hopefully if there’s say, games on the Vita in Japan that companies like Sega and Konami refuse to bring over, this division can handle the localization and publishing.

Maybe they can even grab Level-5’s Time Travelers! (they won’t)

  • Maumac77

I would give them some suggestions, but I don’t use twitter. Also all my suggestions have been mentioned. Hopefully people take advantage of this not only to localize some of their games, but to also have those release windows be closer together. If companies and developers don’t have enough people to do this, a production team such as this could surely help with that. (Looking at you Namco).

  • Zonron

maybe we can get gundam break, both psv and ps3

  • cloudcaelum

Great news, now give us Skyrim, The Witcher, Ni no Kuni, Fallout Etc… For Vita.

  • Erwin MadJelly

This is absolutely great news!! I hope they can start the production ASAP, bringing games we want for the VITA!

  • brian

This may just be a euphemism of paying for exclusivity, though I’m excited about that localizing part.
But it’ll probably be used mostly for porting.
Although maybe they could help with an actual new Breath of Fire game.

  • juma086

Type-0, I will play you yet!

  • Demeanor

Mmmm am I mistaken or the LARGE majority of fan requests in this thread have something to do with jrpgs? :D the immortal masterpieces born in the PS1 and PS2 era… :D there’s a message here, I wonder if the requests Sony will receive outside of this thread will keep this tendency…

  • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

Localized products! Now this sounds Great

  • ChatKnight

Doesn’t Nintendo have something similar to this too? Good to see the big console brands starting to put their money where it matters: games.

  • Light Soul

Sounds interesting. Hope they can localize Project Diva F 2nd.

  • KuyaArnold

Now lets talk about Dissidia 3 shall we?
