Developers Express Interest In The Mighty No. 9 For Nintendo 3DS

By Ishaan . September 3, 2013 . 8:30am

The Mighty No. 9, a spiritual successor to Mega Man created by Keiji Inafune, is headed to PC, Mac and Linux, with console versions under consideration as well. However, developer Comcept are also open to a Nintendo 3DS version.

When asked about the possibility of a 3DS version of The Mighty No. 9 on Twitter, a representative of the development team replied, “Are some big ifs — if we get strong enough feedback and, of course, if we can make the money work — but we wld def consider 3DS.”

Then, hours later, in a public tweet Renegade Kid, the studio behind Mutant Mudds and the upcoming Treasurenauts, offered to help Comcept with developing a Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

To this, The Mighty No. 9 Twitter replied, “Wow, thanks very much for reaching out — I will make sure this info gets to the team! :D”

Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean that a Nintendo 3DS version of the game is going to be developed for certain, but there does seem to be interest in such a project.

  • I’d totally get behind it, if it comes out.

  • isotrex

Next thing you know this will be a big IP. It’ll be a kick in the nuts to Capcom since they don’t seem to care about Megaman anymore.

    • ishyg

I’ll deliver them the kick to the nuts myself.

  • XypherCode

I love me some portable goodness of this game. :)
But I hope it reaches the 2.5 million stretch goal. It kinda slowed down when it hit the 1.2 million mark.

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Almost all Kickstarters start to slow down considerably after the first 24-72 hour time period. It probably will get to that last stretch goal, but it may be pretty tight. I really hope they include portable and next-gen versions as a part of the 2.5mil goal.

    • Go2hell66

you best believe its gonna hit that 2.5mil mark even if i have to make the money myself XD

i’m hoping to see at least the 1.7m goal reached (love me some ng+). if the consoles port goal is reached i’ll buy the game two times (pc and ps3)

  • Shady Shariest

    Umm… Umm… Sony? Vita+Mighty Number 9? *PuppyEyes*
    …It COULD happen :)

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

It could, but remember, this is a 3DS specific article…

      • Shady Shariest

Because of the context… The game itself is coming to PC, along with 360 and Ps3 if stretch is met :)
        (+ Wii U)

    • Eder García

Sony is getting a lot of tweets from fans asking for a Vita and PS4 version, maybe Sony itself will take the job of porting the game to PS4 and Vita… who knows?

      • Shady Shariest

Hmhm~m, it would fit well for Sony themselves to make the ports… It would further advertise them and their “Headhunters” :3
(This time not slashing on Microsoft by doing so ;) )

        • Testsubject909

          At least not directly slashing.

          • ishyg

I can directly slash Capcom though.

          • Shady Shariest

Yes… Lest us hope that they won’t go to the “little children fighting”-tactics when the indie’s hit the platforms on full steam :/

    • Folk Hellfang

I was thinking the same thing. It seems like a 3DS version would have to be made specifically for the unit, not just a simple port. The Vita makes more sense if it could handle the game.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

The 3DS can handle ports from consoles…

        • komiko12

True. I recall reading on this site that they played a PS2 Resident Evil game using a 3DS.

          • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

they played resident evil 5 on the 3ds

          • komiko12

That’s it. I think that the game wouldn’t be that graphically demanding so even a 3DS could handle it.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Its actually got a pretty capable CPU, but alot of its power is used to render the 3D

        • JonathanisPrimus

Due to the huge resolution differences, it would require a lot more work than a Vita port would.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Coding for 3D requires more work yes, resolutions are scalable actually.

But honestly, since when did things requiring “work” be a problem for people who actually are competent developers? Its something people love right?

Smart people like to be challenged you know?
Its not like a PS3 where its a total pain in the ass, the vita’s a PS3 with half of the hardware removed either way. Even then some of them rose to the occasion.

We dont even know how Inafune is coding this.

          • JonathanisPrimus

Resolutions being scalable isn’t that big of a thing when you’re taking a game designed for HD displays to a platform that isn’t at all divisible by that. Vita has a screen resolution 1/4th that of an HD display, 3DS doesn’t.

Vita’s not like the PS3 at all. The majority of the PS3’s hardware is pretty much proprietary tech designed by Sony. Vita uses off the shelf mobile phone parts …

          • ishyg

“But honestly, since when did things requiring “work” be a problem for people who actually are competent developers? Its something people love right?”

Took GT5 several years of “work” and they are a very competent developer.

It’s not magic and fantasy inside the workstation. It’s not just code. It’s not just scaling things down and making it run.

      • TheExile285

Oh come on guys, let’s not do this here
        These discussions never end well.

Chances are, both handhelds will get the game.

        • Shady Shariest

Yup. Was hoping a comment about Vita would not spur these arguments but…yeah, it did -_-‘

        • Folk Hellfang

The assumption is that I’m a 3DS hater, and my comments can be pretty good evidence to support that claim. Only, I love my 3DS as much as I love my Vita.
I’m just thinking In terms of this game with Sonic the Lost World in mind. I’m concerned about the 3DS version maintaining the same standard as the Wii U version. That line of thinking brought up my concerns on Mighty No 9.

          • TheExile285

I wasn’t assuming YOU were ia 3DS hater, I was assuming that your comment might cause 3DS & Vita haters to both start posting.

I made an ass out of myself but I’ve seen this SO many times that whenever I see someone mention the competing console in an article, I assume the worse.

          • Folk Hellfang

Ha, fair enough. I think the Siliconera crowd is pretty cool. I think we can handle this kind of bawdy talk.

well. with sony trying to get as many indie and niche games as they can, we mighty see a vita version of the game (a X1 and PS4 too since it’s going to be released on the PC)

      • Shady Shariest

Yup. What i’m basing my hopes on :)

    • Sergio Briceño

      You could go here:

      Or here:

And ask them. They are bringing Borderlands 2 to Vita, so who knows, they may be open to this kind of petition.

      • Shady Shariest

Hmm-m was watching the Gamescom live… Nearly dropped off my chair when they announced the vita version of that…

To the point, i might send a twitter message, but i could imagine a flood of them all ready existing/being sent… It would be rude at this point to just send a message bitching for it :3

  • J_Joestar

I’m sure everyone still butthurt about Legends 3 (like myself >_>) would buy it!

    • XypherCode

I hope they make a Legends style game of Mighty No. 9 in the future. XD

      • dragoon_slayer12

Yeah, and Keiji can do what he pleases with his vision and our feedback. Hopefully this becomes a Mega Man rival to make Capcom try to make Mega Man “relevant again”, cuz I can definitely take advantage of a double dose of the blue bomber(s).

      • TheGioG

        MegaMan Classic=Mighty No.9
        MegaMan X=Mighty Variable X
        MegaMan Legends=Mighty Legends
Do it Inafune! With him at the helm of such projects, my childhood sure as hell ain’t dead yet! :’)

        • XypherCode

          I chuckled on Variable X. :))

        • J_Joestar

Megaman Zero = Mighty Variant Z
Megaman Battle Networks = Mighty 9 Online

          • Reiswindy

OMG Online! That would be totally awesome!

          • Morricane

            Don’t forget Mighty Soccer!

  • Chaos_Knight

How about No. 9 ON EVERYTHING! :D

    • TheExile285

I like the way you think.

    • AuraGuyChris

      Like Cave Story?

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

Sir you might be on to something

    • eilegz

quoted for truth and you deserve a 10000+

    • RichyGaming

    • MrTyrant

      Cirno as secret boss.

    • Testsubject909

There is the new Third Party Relationship group that Sony put up together who’re said to work on bringing more games to the PS4 and PSV.

We could contact them on mass on site or on twitter to tell them of the Mighty No.9 Project and the excitement of fans to see it on their consoles too. Up the chances of seeing MN9 on PS4/V

      • Reiswindy

As long as it doesn’t become exclusive I would support this.

  • Caleb Montoya

I think this game would do great on the Vita. Screen quality is far superior on the Vita, and this game has great quality graphics.

  • $61526767

I would like that very much and would welcome another 3DS game onto my collection.

  • Sergio Briceño

=3 Yes! This needs to be on as many platforms as possible! I didn’t like the fact that it had to reach it’s final stretch goal for it to be on the current consoles so I was planning on getting a gamepad for PC, but if it makes it to 3DS (and hopefully Vita) that would be amazing! A spiritual sucessor to Megaman on the go. Omg, nosebleed.

fuck yeah! if this get a 3ds port it’s going to make company with the others Mighty series games on my library

  • Sardorim

I would love a 3DS and Vita version of this!

    • neocatzon

Who doesn’t? It’s perfect on handheld.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Bring it on! This keep getting better

  • fenix7

“The Mighty No. 9, a spiritual successor to Mega Man created by Keiji Inafune, is headed to PC, Mac and Linux”

As of right now, the stretch goal for Mac and Linux hasn’t been met yet. Although I’m sure it would be.

Also would be nice to see this on the handheld, thinking of getting 1 myself, just not sure to get teh 2ds or vita.

  • AkuLord3

If so, looks like i’ll be getting 3 versions of the game :3

  • Solomon_Kano

    Renegade Kid, I love you.

  • eilegz

    vita please

    • leingod

Yeah Vita too, it’d be awesome.

    • LogicIncarnate

      Id rather have 3DS.

      • KnifeAndFork

        I’d rather NDS

      • TrevHead

        Since it’s 2.5D a 3DS with 3D added makes sense.

    • J_Joestar

I wouldn’t mind it (the more the merrier right?) But I would hope to prioritize a 3DS one first as it was where Capcom killed Inafune’s own passion project that many fans were hoping for.
It would definitely be a more suitable place for that dream’s revival.

      • Testsubject909

Or how about we just release unto every platform we can possibly reach and instead and reach as many fans of the game that has spread, with the natural passage of time, unto a variety of platforms?

        • J_Joestar

at what point did i suggest excluding other platforms?

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Why’d anyone downvote somebody saying “My console please”? It’s not like he said “Vita over 3DS” or somesuch~.

      • Testsubject909

        Because rabid fans.

  • KnifeAndFork

    Whatever happened to J.J. Rockets…

  • Lionxie

    Yes on PC too! <3

    • gold163

The game is definitely coming to PC, that’s the primary platform they’re making it for :)

  • gold163

    oh hell yes.

  • Raltrios

Has Capcom said anything about Mighty No.9 yet?

  • AntonioPeYangIII

  • Ferofax

  • platomaker

I really would like to see this as a 3D adventure game like legends, not so much for the RPG aspects, but just action oriented. Its good that its starting out as a side scroller though. Do what you know and love.

honestly though, if there was ever a time to try reinventing the wheel, do it after this game.
