Persona 3 Stage Play To Have Separate Shows For Male And Female Protagonist

By Ishaan . September 11, 2013 . 10:30am

As previously reported, Persona 3 will see a live stage play in Japan in 2014. Back when we reported the news, we noted that the flier for the play displayed both the male in the original game as well as the female protagonist that was added in Persona 3 Portable.

Anime News Network report that both characters will indeed be included in the play, but that they will have separate performances and will not appear on stage at the same time.

As noted in our previous report, Persona composer Shoji Meguro will be lending his talents to the play. While the stage play is scheduled for 2014, Japan will see the first in a series of animated Persona 3 films this November

Plottwist: It’s the same actor for both of them!

But I do wonder why they are bringing up P3 this much again. It might be overmilking for some, but I’d totally buy a portable version with FES’ and P3P’s (and more lol) content for the vita.

    • Kaitsu

You don’t know? The movie is coming out in October. Probably one of the most hyped movies for me right now. Too bad I won’t be able to see it in subtitles any time soon, or even raw.

      • Aunna Terrell

Usually have to wait about 6 months for the DVD/Blurays to be released. :/

      • Smooosh

Ah yeah, totally forgot about that one.

It’s the 23rd of November though. I caught One Piece Film Z in one of my local cinemas when it was released. I wonder if they will be so kind as to sub the P3 movie and bring it over too….I’m just worried that it’s too niche in comparison…

  • JustThisOne

Okay, that’s a pretty cool idea. It’d be fun to go to both and see all the differences and similarities. *__*

  • Brimfyre

I wonder if the movie will have two versions. That would be a dream come true.

Then in Arena 2, have both male and female as a single team unit.

    • Sardorim

Seems doubtful as Makoto is t he canon one as per Answer, P4, and Arena 1. They never talk about Minako/Haruko.

She would be a nice swap, as Rise did her VA in the English version, but she shouldn’t be treated as canon because of the repercussions it would have on characters like Yukari.

      • Brimfyre

Well it’s canon in that everything in Amala in canon.

I’ve always seen it as Persona 3 FES is a follow up to Persona 2 IS and P3P is the sequel to Persona 2 EP.

And Yukari can kiss my ass. I never dated her in Persona 3 FES. Mitsuru is the only lady in my (Persona 3) life.

See even when talking about just male, there are canon causalities in the open nature of the storyline and gameplay. Also why games with dating sim elements don’t particularly lend themselves to good sequels.

        • Sardorim

Yukari isn’t bad and she was shipped extremely hard with Makoto in the game. Also, as someone who has lost someone before I can understand how desperate she was in the Answer to try and get Makoto back because she was still in love with him and never got any closure over what happened to him at that point in the game.

          • Brimfyre

Honestly if you don’t peruse her at all, like I didn’t, she isn’t shipped all that hard. They do a good job of making whoever you pick feel like the natural choice.

If you don’t peruse her she feels more like a match for Junpei. I didn’t like the Answer at all, for the same reason I hate most games with voice acting and a nameless protag. They act like they were so sad he died, and then, they don’t even bother to refer him by his name. Completely detached me from the story and actually made me like Yuaki even less for not using his name. She was the most broken up about him being dead, but by not using his name it made it just seem like she was feeling overly guilty because she didn’t even spend enough time with him to learn his name. lol

I realize that is the game’s fault and not Yukari or the other characters but it feels unnatural. Just give the protag an official name in P5 already. It makes it too difficult if you want to do sequels. No one will really be like, “OH MY GOD I CAN’T PLAY AS MYSELF”. That was a nice side rant on my part.

        • anarchy_panty

Mitsuru is the only reason I made it through P3. chew through a thousand miles of glass, etc.

      • Mako

In P4Golden, the p3 protag isnt referred to as a he or a she, implying that minako is indeed also canon.

“Shoji Meguro will be lending his talents” So I’m guessing he’s already done with whatever project he’s working on with Atlus’ P Studio? Just in time for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show too. *nudge nudge wink wink*

  • Kami nii

My hype for Persona 5 is bursting right now Please TGS make my dream come true!!

  • Aunna Terrell

Ooooh, I like the sound of this! XD This is one of the few games where I love both protags! (The other is Star Ocean: The Second Story.)

  • Sardorim

The Movie may not have FeMU but at least they still remember elsewhere that fans liked her!

  • TrueDefault

All this makes me hope for a FemMC in Persona 5 too.

    • Mordina

How I wish for that as well! >.<

    • Rolling Guy

And be able to date the girls too. Vice versa to make it fair. It’s normal nowadays and it makes for fun reactions too.

      • TrueDefault

Hahaha yes! I was happy they kept Elizabeth’s and Aigis’ routes the same for Minako in P3P.

      • Göran Isacson

Oh how one wishes they could be that openminded… sad thing is though that there was apparently a poll only one year ago, where different nations were asked how accepting they were of homosexual relationships. About 48 percent of the Japanese men polled were NOT accepting of them.

Now, statistics are NOT always the thing to base your opinions on, there might be something misleading about them… but I still cannot say, based on what I’ve seen of Japan and it’s otaku culture, that I am hopeful of the Persona team being brave enough to challenge their audience with an openly gay relationship between two men that is not a big joke aimed at sissy guys, even if it IS optional.

        • Rolling Guy

True that. Look at Bioware. Though I never really did go that way when I played as a male lead in their games. Saints Row IV was funny though. I mean come on, Boss and Johnny had a bromance going on so it was practically screaming for something like that.

          • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, I have only seen Saints Row being played but yes- Boss and Johnny Gat are eachothers 5ever boys.

  • Hmmm… Maybe emulating the game’s gender select mode? Probably those who prefer Male MC will have the option to attend at the performance schedule he’ll be on whereas same with the Female MC vice-versa.

  • Mordina

I’m so happy that FeMC gets more attention and love!

  • Ric Vazquez

Persona 3 and 4 have are some of the best sondtracks I’ve heard
