By Ishaan . September 14, 2013 . 10:27am

Monster Hunter 4 was released in Japan earlier today, and people began lining up nice and early to purchase the game at a number of different stores. Below are some of the lines, courtesy of various Twitter feeds from Monster Hunter fans in the country.

Meanwhile, Famitsu.com report that over 800 people were lined up at Shibuya Tsutaya to purchase the game at 7 am.

Damn. That’s a lot of hunters.

  • LunarKnite

I saw some of these earlier. It’s pretty crazy, but pretty awesome too. Makes me wonder if other series in Japan can get longer lines. Would love to see the pictures of people waiting for a Dragon Quest XI.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

You don’t need too, Just wait till next month when Pokemon is coming lol.^_^

      • LunarKnite

Hah, I suppose so. Guess it’s more my wish to see a Dragon Quest XI appear.

    • Guest

I was seeing an article the other day and saw this image that may interest you, it’s from an old article in the Nintendo Power magazine.

Funny how some things never change!

      • LunarKnite

Ah, thank you, good sir. I wish Dragon Quest had even a quarter of those lines in the West, maybe we’d see more localizations.

        • CirnoLakes

The Dragon Quest franchise is super underloved out here.

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

    I’m frightened.

  • Crazy_O

I guess there won’t be many people playing GTA in Japan?

      • hazelnut1112

You have no idea how much that comment hurt me. I could imagine all those people meeting each other. Lucky punks.

        • JMaster3000

          You got 63718 New Stretpasses.

          • cirE

Except not really, because you can only get a measly 10 at a time, so you have to sit there and clear them out over and over again.

As someone who attends rather large conventions such as Otakon, I’ll normally get around 200 passes before I get bored of clearing the queue over and over again.

          • garf02

this is BS I had 100 at the time when was at a local anime con

    • Brion Valkerion

not out til next month there.

      • Herok♞

        where pokemon will kill it

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Five fingers and a fist, they got a 1-2 punch

  • Go2hell66

    Japan knows whats up

  • Joshua Myers

Ugh capcom release it out here in the west plz

  • malek86

Betcha those people buying the digital version will be playing sooner than them.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

They’ve been playing since last night

  • xAtKx

    Mother of god it begins.

  • Arasthel

Now to wait about two years for Capcom to localize the game.

  • brwcrw

    What is pre-ordering?

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      This is the pre-order line.

  • Bobby Jennings

    Wow, that is crazy!

  • Herok♞

So I am guessing this games is going to sell a lot. Ishaan do you think its possible a monster hunter game can open with a million units sold in the first week?

    • 100%. It’s already happened in the past with P3rd. :)

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Selling 2 million day one confurmuzzled.

    • 하세요

There were over 1 million pre-orders for MH4.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I hope that with this huge number of gamer supporting Capcom, capcom is able to understand that as long as they keep producing great games which is not damaged by their (DLC, stupid outsourcing or reboot case.) Many fans will still come to support them.^_^

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Monster Hunter gets free DLC.

      • School Idol Addict

Until now, but there’s no guarantee Capcom won’t start selling paid DLC someday for monsters hunter.
Well personally i wouldn’t be against paying for adding new or old monsters that wasn’t already in the games as long as it wouldn’t be too expensive.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I have a feeling they wont make a G version this gen.

          • School Idol Addict

If they don’t that’s even more reason for them to start selling dlc.
In place of releasing a G version with new maps, monsters, equipment etc. like they usually do they could sell all of that as DLC.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Nah I think they’d do it like a DLC pack like for super luigi u.

My only opposition with that is it may splinter the MH fanbase somewhat making that version DLC./..

          • School Idol Addict

That’s what i meant, but anyway i’m pretty sure they will release a G version, they did it with every MH until now, except maybe MH3P, but in a way MH3U was the G version of both MH tri and MH3P at the same time.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

But they say they’re making less games now.

  • Go2hell66

      Parucon~ Paunch~!!!

    • CirnoLakes

      English comment passing through.

    • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Actually Japan does preorders just like America. Those people out there know they’re getting a copy, and Capcom is good about a healthy amount of copies for MH at launch.

    • 栗場 江理久

  • ReidHershel

It’s funny how Japan and America tastes differ:
Japan: Everybody waiting for Monster Hunter 4.
    America: Everybody waiting for GTAV.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Meanwhile Everyone is waiting for pokemon

      • CirnoLakes

Finally an audience I belong to!

    • Adrian Duran

unfortunately for us, Japan is getting both and we’re only getting GTAV

I do expect 3DS sales to skyrocket this year though

  • ReidHershel

Also, man, this makes me want to go to Japan for some game launches. I bet getting Final Fantasy XV will be a blast there, while people will just bash it after the XIII incidents.

  • Kitestwinblades

This has got to be a fantastic way for people to party up in all sorts of games during the wait let alone the previous Monster Hunter.
Hype building one step at a time.

  • Flynn Scifo

    .____ .”

  • 하세요

I felt this line in the eShop, too. Worth it; been playing nonstop. Charge Axe is so freakin’ epic.

    • Muggshotter

I grew more fond of the Insect Rod from the two new weapons, personally. That feeling when I reach the new heights and come down with a bang, Aruserutasu fell off the wall and it felt so good. That said, we should totally hook up online some day if you’re up for it.

Playing with the Japanese makes me nervous, if only for the lack of Japanese communication skills. D: Yes, I did get a decent set of preset messages but… what if they start to actually discuss? T_T

  • Flynn Scifo

    We need it D:

    • Zero_Destiny

      Monstar Hunaer 4

      • J_Joestar

XD SpellCheck! The West Needs It!

        • Zero_Destiny

Well the last word can’t be hunter since there is already a T up top, who knows what the answer will be! xD

          • The last word is clearly “hunger”.

          • PreyMantis

Japan also loves the letter ‘X,’ so… MonstXr Hunger 4.

          • hehe And punctuational marks, so maybe it’s a semi-colon. Monst;r Hunter 4

    • Guest

As the ‘E’ and ‘T’ are already there, I’ve to say that the phrase must be “Monstar Hunper 4” :P

  • Aristides

  • Mental

Masahiro Sakurai posted this on his twitter earlier.

I guess you could say Smash 4 won’t be coming anytime soon. =P

    • Nanaki

Sakurai is a man dedicated to his task! If anything he’ll grow extra limbs. In my opinion this only confirms that there will be a MH influence/character/stage inside the next Smash Bros.

      • Symbol de Au

Considering that he made most of the E3 Smash Bros screenshots and video by himself I think he already has extra limbs.

    • J_Joestar

      It is a sign!

“Monster Hunter is Joining the Hunt”
Rathalos Armor (Male) Hunter confirmed for Smash4?

    • Ethan_Twain

Well THAT isn’t gonna help with those hand and arm injuries. Sacrifices must be made, I suppose.

      • On the bright side, at least he won’t have to use the claw. That would probably have disabled him for life.

  • God f*ckin’ speed!

  • darkfox1

I love to see things like this I can feel their anticipation from HERE!

  • Demeanor

Wow, that’s incredible. Where I live there would be 0% chance of seeing something like this. O_o

GTA on the west, MH on the east…
    Rockstar and Capcom:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
    others companies:F YOU

    • hazelnut1112

And the weirdest thing about this. Capcom localizes the GTA games in Japan.
Talk about a weird ass coincidence.

  • hazelnut1112

SO since those reports about Capcom having 152 mil in the bank. You think this will help them out?

Also this is a weird coincidence.
Japan is waiting for Monster Hunter 4.
Here in the West we are waiting for GTA 5.
Capcom localizes GTA games in Japan.
    Coincidence? I think not.

    • British_Otaku

I do think that some of the fear about Capcom having 152 Million in the bank was premature given that their big game of the year, one which actually has a shot getting millions sold in Japan alone hadn’t released.

Still it’s a poor sign when Capcom are in that much trouble, it’ll take more than one Monster Hunter to help them back up if DmC, Resident Evil, Lost Planet and Gaist Crusher cost tons to make without any success.

If they could release Monster Hunter over and over to make money, they probably would and would see sales declining.

      On GTA? It’s a conspiracy man…

Bank robberies in GTA, that’s why Capcom are in the dumps.

  • Ric Vazquez

I wish I could be in Japan for those launch days!

  • PreyMantis

This and Pokemon X/Y will overkill the sales charts in Japan for months.

  • Shuga Suenaga

online gameplay will be no problem i guess :D

  • SetzerGabbiani

This really makes me want to import an LL and get hunting. I wish we had this much hype in the States for this game (among others *cough* DQ). I’m an admitted MH noob, but having logged over 500 hours on MH3U at this point, it’s safe to say that I am hooked. This game, which I bought first on Wii U then bought on 3DS when it became apparent that I needed a constant fix on commutes, regularly makes me put down Tales of the Abyss, SMT IV, EO IV, FE: A, and other AAA games. It’s a game tailor-made for borderline OCD types.

I need this in my life, CAPCOM!! Preferably the eventual G version on both 3DS and Wii U!!

  • Guest

    wrong place :P

  • Looking at pictures like this makes me feel good to be a gamer!

  • J_Joestar

    Game is selling like crazy
#4 on (J) 3DS eShop charts, dunno if it’ll reach Animal Crossing any time soon though.

  • If Capcom ever released MH4G i bet the waiting line will be even twice as longer!

  • MrTyrant

THIS IS SO OVERKILL, I mean it. This game and Pokemon will boost 3DS sales to a maximun.

  • Learii

lol with these long line the game already sold out by the time half of these ppl get there

  • CirnoLakes

    I really like that tie-dyed t-shirt.

  • Skyer Ist

Goooooo, Monster Hunter 4! 3DS will burn Japan this month…. Pokemon X/Y in october…

  • s07195

My brother has the game… and I’m stuck in China with no way of buying/playing it until December… >.>
