Bethesda Softworks have shared their Tokyo Game Show trailer for The Evil Within, the upcoming third-person survival horror game by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. Watch the trailer below:

The Evil Within tells the story of a police detective Sebastian who is investigating a crime scene at an asylum with his partner. Sebastian is attacked and passes out. When he comes to, he awakens to a world of horrifying creatures.

Mikami describes The Evil Within as “pure survival horror”. Mikami feels that the survival horror genre involves a balancing act of being on the defensive and offensive, depending on the situation and the resources available to you. It’s this balance that he hopes to achieve with The Evil Within.

The Evil Within is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The game is scheduled for release in 2014. You can read our hands-on impressions of the game from E3 here.

Although Resident Evil is still my favorite game series, I’ll be going to The Evil Within for my dosage of Survival Horror.

Man, this looks pretty cool! It’s been a LONG time since there was a big budget new horror IP. I’m coming up with Dead Space as the last time this happened. My hopes are high.

This trailer looked great, but I need to see more gameplay. I hope this is more REmake than RE4.

The ghost person in the end.. Look like this game is going to be an excellent survival horror game.

  • MattDaemon

That was great. The survival horror that actually make the player’s heart beating uncontrollably and raise the adrenaline and tension, I surely want to be part of that experience.

Quite possibly among my first retail PS4 game purchases :P
