More Mega Man Still Headed To Virtual Console, But It Might Take A While

By Ishaan . September 18, 2013 . 9:35am

Earlier in the year, Capcom announced that more Mega Man games are headed to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, including the numbered Mega Man games for the Game Boy, as well as Mega Man Xtreme 1 and 2 for Game Boy Color. However, it might be a while before you see these titles released.

Capcom’s Brett Elston writes on Capcom-Unity:

Still no concrete date set. There’s still a fair amount of coordination that has to happen among NOA/CUSA/Capcom Japan/Nintendo Japan, plus slotting in games when Thursday is the only day, per week, when VC games hit Wii U / 3DS. I would love to get them out this year—and am pushing for that—but it’s a bigger task than me simply setting a date.

But yeah, they’re definitely still coming (+ Xtreme and Xtreme 2).

We’ll have a follow-up report ready once Capcom have shared further details of their ongoing Mega Man support for Virtual Console.

Don’t worry Capcom I’m used to waiting for megaman.

  • http://watercrown.info/ Ryusui

Six months from now, they’re gonna turn around and claim there was either not enough fan support or some unforeseen technical snafu and the whole thing’s cancelled.

    • Arcana Wiz

yeah it’s sad when a company consumers already are used to it, it should demonstrate to the company in question that their bussiness system aren’t the best…..

    • Kaihedgie

Oh god will you people zip it already. I cannot believe how utterly insufferable this fanbase has become. This is easily more annoying than Sonic’s fandom.

      • Crimson Tiger

People are allowed to feel what they want. If a person did you wrong you wouldn’t be a fan of theirs either.

        • Kaihedgie

You can do that without being an obnoxious broken record.

Don’t like Capcom? Why even care?

          • Crimson Tiger

Don’t like upset fans? Why even care?
Just roll your eyes and scroll on.

          • Kaihedgie

Upset fans are everywhere I go. Even when the subject isn’t about Mega Man, you people will still find a way to bring him up and Capcom

          • http://watercrown.info/ Ryusui

Capcom has gone out of its way to alienate everyone who ever called themselves a fan of their games. Cancelling the Megaman franchise, handing Devil May Cry over to those hacks at Ninja Theory, refusing to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2, shelving Darkstalkers, making Breath of Fire VI a Farmville clone…and when they’re not releasing games with on-disc DLC, they’re releasing game updates at full price that SHOULD have been DLC.

Maybe you’re one of the handful of Capcom fans they haven’t gotten around to screwing over yet, but don’t call us “entitled” for wanting them to go back to being awesome.

          • Kaihedgie

If they’ve “cancelled” the Mega Man Franchise, why do they still bring attention to it and continue to create material for it? Also, Rockman Online wasn’t really making any bucks and Neowicz were the ones who cancelled it, not Capcom.

You have Ace Attorney 5. Be grateful you’re getting something.

Darkstalkers got shelved because no one actually cared to buy Resurrection despite begging for it to have attention.

A whole lot of companies pull off this same shtick and yet they’re not getting heat for it. Hell, Namco Bandai did this very recently with Extreme Vs.

The fact that you’re complaining about Ace Attorney in the first place does hint at entitlement.

        • Göran Isacson

Agreed. Also, at least Sonic GETS new games…

          • Distant_arcana

Albeit not very interesting ones lately

    • LaserVision

Except that Mega Man 1 through 6 are already available on the Virtual Console along with Mega Man X.

But be honest, were you actually going to get the Mega Man GB/ Xtreme games, or were you just using this as excuse to post yet another unoriginal and predictable bitter comment?

      • http://watercrown.info/ Ryusui

I’ve already got Megaman 1-6 on eShop; what do you think? I’d buy 7-10 and Megaman & Bass if they were on eShop, too, but it’s safe to say that’s never going to happen.

I took it hard when they cancelled Mega Mania, a.k.a. Megaman Anniversary Collection for GBA – the five Game Boy games wrapped up all nice and neat and in color. The funny thing is, nowadays I wouldn’t bat an eye at it – though on the flip side, I wouldn’t take their “we lost the source code” excuse at face value.

        • LaserVision

Fair enough then. I do think though that the developers do deserve the benefit of the doubt considering both Kingdom Hearts and Silent Hill had lost source code too. And the fact that everyone associated with Mega Man has quit Capcom, so no one bothered to maintain anything pertaining to the old games.

  • AuraGuyChris

Let me guess. The lack of coordination is mostly from Capcom and not Nintendo.

  • César H. Sandoval

How about a NEW game instead of the old ones?

  • Bobby Jennings

Pfft, wonder what happened to the year of Megaman hmm. Where’s the new games?

    • Rytan

We get a spiritual successor to Megaman from Inafune. That’s all I care about now.

      • Kaihedgie

Again, why are you here then?

        • Syn

To see what people have to say?? Seriously, you need to calm down. Yeah people whine(its sucks), but being a whiner over people whining isnt any better.

          • Kaihedgie

When you’re being a broken record about it, it becomes unbearable

          • Syn

True, but what can you do about it, people have views and opinions(internets law must be abided too)*poor attempt at humour there* either way, I get what you mean, just dont get too riled up, theres still many many many more of these coming especially with mighty number 9(love it) info popping nearly everyday.

          • Kaihedgie

What can you do about it?

Stop repeating the same song over and over again. Continuing to whine about Capcom and no Mega Man isn’t going to make any new games magically appear, nor is Mighty No.9 going to fill that void. I had suggested before that Siliconera disable comments on certain articles because people were going to keep spewing the same uninspired crap over and over again, basically having nothing worthwhile to say.

    Virtual console thingies are hard…

It takes a lot of virtual workers,
    a lot of virtual bucks,
about a ton of virtual work,
and giving a million virtual fucks.

    • Jeffrey Thrash

I seriously think you should try ConsoleClassix.com. Outside of a couple glaring ommissions (No Majora’s Mask?) it has practically every major cartridge-based game ever made. Plus, the site owners seem better at earning a developer’s permission and letting us know the legal limits on their forums than Nintendo, so it’s actually just as legal as the Virtual Console.

      • Shady Shariest

Hmhm~m seems interesting… And useful! Thank you for the tip :3
        *Upvote*

  • http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/21421.html?type=4 Kashell

Can anyone tell me if the two GBC Mega Man X titles are worth playing?

    • Kaihedgie

Yes, though the second game is noteworthy for two things:

It’s one of the first games where Zero has his own campaign

It’s the debut appearance of Iris, storyline wise.

    • Bobby Jennings

      Yeah Xtreme 2 is GREAT.

    • SilentMC

Xtreme 2 is worth it, Xtreme 1 has a relative amount of slowdown and controls nowhere as well as the Xtreme 2, so while not bad it’s not great.

Oh and Xtreme mode is a blast

  • Derek E Nay

Xtreme 2 is a great game. I played the game on every difficulty and enjoyed the hell out of it. Though, I think I did it because it was easy because there is a no dead zone on the last boss that you can just stay at and never get hit. Though I still enjoyed the game enough to play the hell out of it.

  • Crimson Tiger

Who cares. Capcom only re-releases ols stuff (even though extreme 1+2 are both cool) GO SUPPORT BECK!
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9

  • Rytan

I actually want Xtreme 2 because I bought a copy from Gamestop years ago and it never worked. (And I was too stupid to get a refund.)

  • Heropon

We don’t need this. We need a proper new Megaman games. Capcom ,you promised so much about the Anniversary and this is the only thing you can do for Megaman series

  • https://twitter.com/Ni_Go_Zero_Ichi Project 2501

Which of the Mega Men are Megavanias, again? I’m not really a Mega Fan, so I don’t really Mega… uh… know.

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

The two give you the choice of several stages to play in the order you want and then reach the final zones. Xtreme 2 is probably the game that aged best since its replay value adds more strategy to the use of X and Zero: Only one gains a weapon after beating a boss.

  • Kandou Erik

Try harder. Maybe even try that whole “setting a date” thing. Things seem to happen quicker, when you’re no twiddling your thumbs. I’m so aggrivated by this, every single week – looking for even ONE of the Gameboy Mega Man games to actually release. But, nope; each week is another “Capcom hates me”-kind of week.
