If he doesn’t win the league this time against someone who looks threatening and yet likeable, I’m going to start a massive fan hate letter and pass it to the Japanese viewers to overthrow the writers who keep coming up with their own mechanics.

    • TheFoolArcana

      Pffft, like that will happen.

    • Lucius

Its unlikely but it would be nice to see him fight against the elite 4 and champion after the league.

    • Kaitsu

Psh, everyone knows he can only win non-canon leagues.

    • Minos
    • Lynx

      Orange League.

      Also; Battle Frontier.

    • Sardorim

Ash is destined to loss as the Anime is meant to sell the games, not to ever go anywhere.

Poor Misty, what could have been….

      • Dark Zerato

But you will win the league in the game anyway. So what is the point of Ash losing every league ?

        • JuhRo

          Because you’re not Ash.. you’re… Red. :)
          That’s why he loses… cause we keep winning… O_O
EVERYONE. Keep losing at the respective game’s leagues… let’s see if it affects the show in some multi-dimensional way.

          • Vash bane

…..im a sore loser so ash might have to keep losing XD

  • Narrator 1

My guess is, before even looking at anything, that Ash’s Charizard becomes a MegaCharizard sometime here. And then he parts with it again.

    • Sardorim

      Charizard returns!

Now we just need Misty and Brock and the old cast will be shaping up well!

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

      Charizard is at Oak Lab.

    • Steven Higgins

Mega Evolution is temporary, so that’s actually more reason for Charizard to stick around.

  • Highasthesky

I fail to understand why ash can’t just beat every region and move on, he wants to become the pokemon MASTER meaning the series doesn’t have to end once he conquers ONE region.

    • 3PointDecoupage

Keep in mind, Ash is a horrible pokemon trainer.

      • Highasthesky

Yes it’s kinda engraved in my head.

    • Slayven19

Yeah its funny that the only thing he ever truly won was the orange island cup. They seriously just need a new main trainer. People won’t miss ash as much as they think if they can bring in someone new like in the manga.

      • Sardorim

        Ash isn’t the issue.

        He can be replaced.

What’s the issue is somehow replacing Pikachu.

        • 3PointDecoupage

Well, they do make a new one every gen. Pachirisu, Emolga, and now Dedenne.

    • Sardorim

His Pikachu has lost to starters from new trainers in new regions.

His IQ took a nosedive after Misty and than Brock left forever as it signaled that he would remain stagnate from hence forth.

      • J_Joestar

        New Trainer + Starter > Orange League Champion’s Dragonite…
Kinda sad to think about that…

    • almostautumn

I still don’t know what that means. All I remember is that in the game the point was to catch them all— but then in the television show, Ash walks by about 90% of pokemon and doesn’t catch shit.

  • Guest

    ¿Profesor Plátano? ._.

    • Detrimont

      Prof. Platane (plata-nay)
      it’s Sycamore’s japanese name

      • Guest

Yeah :P it’s just it amused me how that sounded, just like the Spanish word “Plátano”

  • ReidHershel

This reminds me a lot of the Gen 3 anime, I am tempted to watch this :3

  • Spirit Macardi

It’s funny, even though the anime keeps getting worse, the voice work in it keeps getting better. Though it’s dubbed in New York they’ve managed to bring in LA talent like Vic Mignogna, Todd Haberkorn, and Cristina Vee, and even good ol’ Chris Sabat from Texas.

Just a shame that they’re given pretty much nothing to work with.

    • Slayven19

How does it get worst exactly? I mean none of them were particularly great but black and white and diamond & pearl was better than advance and jhoto journey’s.

      • zaidandzhadow

actually black and white are the worst series

        • Renaldi Saputra

every pokemon anime is the worst, except the first and movies..

          • zaidandzhadow

not really black nd white were really too over cliche that even i couldn’t stand

          • Renaldi Saputra

well, you got a point.. best wishes is ok at first, but it became the same worst thing again

          • Renaldi Saputra

okay, I got downvoted by some PokeFags

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

They werent cliche it was just stupid writing and retcons , bah ever since they brought in the Darkrai trainer to make him loose lol

          • Renaldi Saputra

well, it’s reasonable.. in Japan, only kids (3-10 years old) that watch pokemon.. and pokemon is popular in family’s entertaiment

          • zaidandzhadow

Our last hope is the special

        • Renaldi Saputra

every pokemon anime is the worst, except the first and movies..

    • Herok♞

How exactly is the anime getting worse in anyway shape or form? If all you have to work with is OMG Ash is such a bad trainer then that’s not a good argument.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        DP>BW
        Hoenn was best.

        Cilan>Dawn though lmao

        • J_Joestar

          But he ain’t no Brock.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

            He’s a Sommelier lol

(stupidest sublplot yet, still better than Iris though)

        • Herok♞

          that doesn’t answer the question.

      • Renaldi Saputra

getting worse = get hundreds more episodes without any sense

        • Herok♞

The sense they make is Ash travels to a new land and meets new pokemon, what else do you want from a tie in anime that plot has and always will make sense.

          • Renaldi Saputra

at least no 95% filler in the whole anime again

          • Herok♞

The anime has always had filler and lots of it: the challenge of the Samurai season 1 episode 4 was not apart of the games last I checked. Plus there is no problem with the anime having a ton of filler, if it was just straight plot, then I guarantee a season would be over way before more games come out, which leads to whole filler seasons, like Orange Islands, Battle Frontier, BW2, etc.

          • Renaldi Saputra

I mean, can’t they be just like other kids show that only contains no more than around 50 episodes?

yeah, there is no problem with the anime having ton of filles indeed, because kids in Japan and hardcore Pokefans (mostly they who say anything about Pokemon is always and will be always good) still enjoy Pokemon anime just the way the anime is..

          • Herok♞

Pokemon has and always be a different beast then other kids animes, especially when they decided not to change the protag that sealed its fate

          • Renaldi Saputra

            it’s true after all

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

It was great in Sinnoh got worse in Unova but XY will be better

  • Sergio Briceño

He does look a little older (maybe a year or so) like many of you said after the last trailer.

    • Steven Higgins

I just saw ” Battle of the Badge” from Indigo League and Ash says it’s been a whole year since they were in Viridian city, that would make him 11 at the end of Indigo League. Maybe he just looks it now.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        1 year in pokemon world = 0,000000000000000000…………………………………1 Ash’s age

  • Scarletmoonwish

I know most people have negative comments to say, but here a positive, the animation looks a lot more high quality than Best Wishes IMO anyways https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OYdRh1LeVw

    • Renaldi Saputra

pokemon anime only focus on its animation quality..

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Everything about BW’s anime was stupid

        • Renaldi Saputra

team rocket was badass at first, until the time when Fire pokemon attacked, they became as usual

  • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

Looking back at all of Ash’s failures, I kinda wish they went the Digimon route and introduced a new protagonist for each region, or least for Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos. I lost interest in Ash during the battle frontier in Hoenn.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

anime target audience is 10 year old kids

      • Renaldi Saputra

        even lower..

      • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

I’m aware of that. Just wish Ash wasn’t so incompetent, then again he’s 10 and doing the best he can.

      • http://people.ign.com/princerevolver Surgeon Of Death

I’m aware of that. Just wish Ash wasn’t so incompetent, then again he’s 10 and doing the best he can.

      • Uso Ewin

Then make another 10 year old!

      • British_Otaku

That’s the same with Digimon and probably most anime around catching monsters/ becoming the best at ____. >_> Even Inazuma Eleven’s game series got a second protagonist quick.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          but digimon tamers seems not..
also Digimon X Evolution is rated PG 13++

          • British_Otaku

I don’t see a big gap between PG 13+ and 10 year old kids if you ask me. Given that manga and anime targetted at that range can have children’s penises (Beelzebub and Dragon Ball) and bare breasts (Dragon Ball again – not so much now, but they don’t shy from fanservice as much as you may expect), the gap is often more in the mood and degree of violence unless sexual acts are displayed in full.

Digimon Tamers is the only Digimon series I feel like watching because the writer (Chiaki J. Konaka) is amazing and the reported dark themes, though I’ll probably watch the first two seasons in advance to get some contrast.

          • J_Joestar

Tamers was the best season, although it doesn’t hurt to be familiar with at least Adventure 01 (Since Tamers takes place in the “Real World” like ours where Digimon is an existing anime/game series)

          • British_Otaku

Adventure 01 is what season exactly… >_> Oh, it’s the first season but since the second season is called Adventure 02, that’s what you call the first season… >_>

I usually follow it when it comes to video games or movies like calling Spiderman, “Spiderman 1″, got completely thrown off by the 0 in there as if there was a side series of OVAs titled that.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll put it on my anime list or something. Watching Tamers sounds like it’ll be fun, along with the rest of them, but I’m more keen to finish manga on my shelf or anime I bought years ago than over one hundred episodes of Digimon still… >_>

          • Renaldi Saputra

for a -mon shounen anime, at least Tamers had an anti-mainstream main protagonist and also way more realistic characters

          • Renaldi Saputra

in games CERO, 10 years old is still caterigozed as CERO A, and for 13++ is CERO B.. well, yeah maybe not much gap..

but, still, many of kids seem can’t watch X-Evolution because.. they cut wings and tails, eat digimon, stomp until the tusk is broken (well, that Triceramon X), and deaths everywhere..

          • British_Otaku

You have probably played enough games and seen enough movies that you have noticed that less than half a dozen ratings (or even 100 ratings in my opinion) will never well represent what we should see or play with… >_> I’ll go for recent examples, Senran Kagura Burst is rated T along with Smash Bros and Ace Attorney 5 being M along with GTA V. >_>

I do understand that a monster raising/catching series where there is actual bodily harm to the monster and the monsters are eaten is much less idealistic and ideal for the younger ones. Still, this child is eating fish, while raising a goldfish and training their Magikarp into a Gyarados. >_> The ratings are rough guides at best.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Inazuma Eleven is on a whole nother tier man

          • British_Otaku

I don’t really watch the shows, but it seemed like I made the right call by mentioning it as it is part and one of the most successful of the Gaist Crusher/Hero Bank/Youkai Watch/Star Force/Battle Network rush of games to anime that want to get a fanbase like Pokemon.

If Inazuma Eleven is a lot better than I guessed, oh well, I’ll have fun when I get further into the games and maybe watch a few episodes.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I watched the entire series, and like 30 episodes of Go ( I kinda stopped watching anime for a good while, will start again when Blazblue comes out and I have the time to go update MAL)

            Its some good shit.

          • Renaldi Saputra

Inazuma Eleven is such a good anime, too..

they have deep characterization and character development per character, even though there are plenty of characters in there

also the story is quite interesting..

      • Steven Higgins

        So is Digimon.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          depends..
          some are yes, even lower

    • J_Joestar

to be fair, they have been going half-way with the secondary lead switches, although it is kind of an issue that contest story routes for the girl protagonists seemingly left with Hikari.

  • Espoir

Ah, Pokemon anime… as much as they progress, nothing can still beat the nostalgia of the Ash, Brock and Misty dream team.

    • Renaldi Saputra

nothing can beat the first movie

  • http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/mgbenz mgbenz

Man, I imagine him saying this with a vodka in one hand, and drunk out of his mind.

  • Virevolte

For now, enjoy the show dear little ones. One day, you will hate Ash too.

    • Herok♞

I have been watching the show since the beginning and still don’t hate ash.

I want to see ash snorlax mega evolution too.

So, are those NOT flames on Mega Blazikins wrists? ‘Cause flames shouldn’t cast shadows. And YAY! Long-hair Jenny is back! I did not care for the Unova Jenny’s haircut.

  • J_Joestar

Ash should just grow up and return to Kanto, I’m sure she is waiting for him still.

  • Kamakuma

There’s something I never understood… Ash’s Pikachu should be lvl 100 by now. So why after every region it gets its tail handed to it by like lvl 1-5 starters? I feel bad for the little guy… Pikachu anyway. XD

    • Renaldi Saputra

it’s pokemon logic, and it’s kids show that’s targeted lower than 10 yrs old.. not much thing that you should understand.. kids in Japan theirselves still enjoy just the way the anime is..

there’s more pokemon logic in the anime..
      1. pikachu can damage golem with electric moves
      2. when Ash/Satoshi meets a not-new pokemon that actually he had known, he’s still saying “what’s that pokemon??”
maybe if he added “I’ve seen that before, let me check first..” maybe I can still understand but in this case, he seemed that he hadn’t seen that thing before
      and more..

  • knightr

Oak: Hey ash, go explore the new region for another 3 or 4 years or something while I stay back here with your single mom

  • Vash bane

will Pikachu also get a mega form?

    • Renaldi Saputra

nope, it should be Raichu, not Pikachu

      • Vash bane

I know I was a little sleepy when I watched it and I thought I heard Pikachu mega evolve. my bad
