    Aaaaaaand we’ll never see maya fey ever again ;-;

    • Alos88

You really think they’re just going to pretend she didn’t exist? She’ll probably show up at the most dramatic moment, when Wright is at his lowest point.

      • KuroNathan

Well, she’s already confirmed to not show up in this game…

        • Dansar

So while she doesn’t appear in game, apparently you can find a letter that she wrote to Phoenix. But other than that, I think there’s basically no mention of here.

        • Göran Isacson

Seriously? Like, have people already played the game and she isn’t in it/the director stated outright she’s not there?

          • KuroNathan

People who played the Japanese version has stated she’s not there. There’s /another/ Fey that shows up but it’s not Maya

  • AuraGuyChris

Sam Riegel reprises his UMVSC role here, it seems.
    Go, Donny!

    • Spirit Macardi

His voice DOES give him super strength after all ;3

  • Space_Ghost

I love the music in these games.

  • gRiMmYdArK13

Sam Riegel? Wendee Lee? Really? They’re everywhere… Be more original! They should’ve used voices that got minor roles in other anime/video games. It would have been more unique!

    • I like Sam, but since really getting into anime in the 00’s, Wendee Lee is driving me nuts for literally being everywhere. She had like 8 NPC voices in Tales of Xillia, 2 in one cutscene as a mother….and son.

      • Marcelo Gouvea

But that’s the thing — she was cast as NPCs. It’s been a while since she’s been cast as main characters (I mean, I don’t see her as a main character these years nearly as often as, say, Cristina Vee or Cassandra Lee. (I’m not complaining though, love Cassandra’s voice alot)).

        • I think she was the project director, I know she does that a lot lately and usually does background voices (probably to save $$$). Problem is that her voice diversity isn’t that great and it’s just….real noticeable that it gets irritating to me.

    • jugss

isn’t he the voice of donnel in fire emblem?

    • Lynx

Lee hasn’t been in anything new recently in major roles, outside of one’s that she’s reprising. She’s more of a Voice Director now.

The last major role I can remember Haruhi all the way back. She might’ve had more but nothing as major as THAT one.

      • Bec66

She played Clover in Virtues Last Reward

  • Dual audio, please!

  • Soma Schicksal

    Dat Sam Riegel

  • British_Otaku

So the costumes are cheaper for late foreign players than late Japanese ones… I get the feeling it would be a brilliant statement of good will (EDIT: to make them free and in the game – no idea how I keep finishing posts without proofreading my main points), especially as we can’t exactly give the game away to anyone, but I guess they want to use that 99 cents to push people into buying early when that’s what happens anyway.

    Sales are naturally front loaded.

  • Marcelo Gouvea

    Just a few more weeks~ can’t wait, can’t wait!

  • XiaomuArisu

So Phoenix is voiced by Sam Riegel again
And Athena….not sure but she sounds familiar

edit: Wendee Lee aka Rozalin from Disgaea

  • Rolling Guy

I got chills when the familiar soundtrack came on! Will there be an American release? My 3DS is US. :T

    • XiaomuArisu

      Of course
24th october Europe AND Americaf yeah!!!

  • Pinwheel

I remember being skeptical about Sam Riegel when he was announced for UMVC3. Awhile later, I really can’t imagine anybody else voicing Phoenix. Dude’s perfect for the role.

    • British_Otaku

His performance in UMVC3 had a few rough spots (How was “Take That!” dubbed in late and sounded less powerful than the “Take This!”) but he is the only professional VA I’ll pick for the role now.

I would have liked dual audio or a Ben Judd mode just for novelty though, not even dubbing over cutscenes and stuff.

      • pressstart

Is Ben Judd the one who did the original English Objections! Take Thats!, and Hold Its!?

        • British_Otaku

Yep. The whole voice cast, both Japanese and English were made up of the localisation staff, directors and producers of the game and such. Ben Judd was Phoenix Wright for the original games and is currently on the team of Mighty No. 9.

          • pressstart

Then Ben Judd’s version was the best! Granted, it was only 3 lines and 5 words.

Sam Riegel’s Phoenix grew on me after a while though, so I’m glad they kept him for this game.

          • You should hear Ben Judd talk about the directions the voiceover director would give him during recording sessions.

“Say it like you’re a hot-blooded lawyer with passion!”

          • British_Otaku

Do you have a link to the interview or video by any chance?

          • It isn’t one specific interview or anything. He’s mentioned it on a few podcasts he’s guest-starred in on occasion. I think I also remember him talking about it in that old Bionic Commando Podcast he used to do. I used to listen to that religiously.

          • Aoshi00

While Ben Judd did the several phrases well (like Shu Takumi), w/ quite a few cutscenes and long dialogue, it’s better to let the VAs do it this time, Jpn got VAs this time as well just like the drama CDs. At least UMvC3 had Sam Riegel in Eng, in Jpn Nick was voiced by the live action actor who also did the Layton x Phoenix game which was not very good.

It’s cool they added some cutscenes here and there, but I actually prefer not to have them in retrospect.. felt a bit out of place compared to the past 6 games..also as good as the 3D is, the sprites were still the best.. wonder if they would go 3D again if there’s Investigations 3..

          • Shizumasa

Wrong, the Japanese Phoenix in UMvC3 was voiced by Kosuke Toriumi, not the Live-Action actor Hiroki Narimiya.

          • Aoshi00

I see, mustve gotten mixed up with Layton x Phoenix, Narimiya Hiroki from the live action movie sounded awful in the 3DS spinoff.. I like Kondo takayuki in gyakuten 5 and the drama CDs..

  • neocatzon

Just tried the demo. Tips: max the 3D, it’s awesome!

    • Ric Vazquez

The game was better than I expected overall, looks like this one may be the best one in the series

    • British_Otaku

It’s probably one of the most natural looking games in 3D, very little strain or ugliness, just beautiful. Novelty or not.

  • Dianatos

Sam Riegel doesn’t sound bad at all. Now I can’t wait to hear Kellam finally getting noticed with his CHORDS OF STEEL!!

  • British_Otaku

It costs £19.99 in the UK.

For Americans or others who don’t understand the value presented here, FIFA 14 (which is literally just a kit update) is £39.99 and 3DS games usually go for around £30 (roughly $50) at retail or less with some like Layton or Mario sneaking above that. It’s also cheaper to buy from the UK store over the French/Euro one, but that the language range goes beyond English… >_>

    • kthanxyousuck

All hyped 3ds games are $39.99 in the US. The exception I believe was SMTIV which came in at $49.99 but it’s rare.

  • Shizumasa

No obejections. I got used to Riegel’s voice after hearing him so much in Tales of Xillia as Jude. He’s okay.

  • MrJechgo

Why isn’t this an anime series yet? You can’t argue much about it, the quality’s there and the creators could use the manga as well as the games for the stories ^_^

    • British_Otaku

It will probably come in time or it’s a decision on Capcom’s part. It has got a live action movie adaptation which was apparently pretty good.

      • Pdugna

one of the best if not the best Video Game movies ever…minus maybe the filler cases being sectioned off weirdly to save time…they showed every case and got most of the actors who could like their counterparts in the game.

        • British_Otaku

Sounds worth a buy, after I get through my backlog or finish AA5. I believe Madman in Australia licensed it, I would like to see Manga UK or FUNimation bring it to more regions even if bypassing a region lock for a DVD is something almost as trivial as having a player.

  • artemisthemp

I really need to find time to play this demo.

  • SuperSailorV

Does anyone know if this is the same demo they had at places like Comic Con and Anime Expo?

Also, I like how Athena’s theme has that light, whimsical feeling that Maya’s and Trucy’s have! It feels so familiar.

    • British_Otaku

It seems to be the same demo as the one they had playable on Capcom’s website, taking a portion of the first case, having one fourth wall reference about a quick verdict being fine as there isn’t a lot of time in a demo.

I haven’t played the convention or expo demos, but I’m pretty sure there is only one going around.

  • kylehyde

I can’t wait to dowload and play the demo (I’m at work and the internet conection is terrible).

  • I was on edge and my mouth started to bubble as my mom walked in. I’m sure she doesn’t understand my excitement like you guys do ahaha. I’ll download the demo right away~ Does anyone know how many times the demo can be used? (I hope it’s not 5…)

    • British_Otaku

The European and Japanese demos have 30 uses.
I can’t say for sure how many the American demo has without someone confirming it but they seem to want to let us try it out a lot of times.

      • I played it today, it’s 30 uses~ I’m sure that’ll be enough for me (I’m already hooked really!)

        • British_Otaku

I’ve probably got my fill from trying the Japanese version and European version once each when they were new. I dived in again to see what Phoenix said if you didn’t ask for hints too but alternative lines are nice.

It’s good to hear that Capcom aren’t limited it to a small amount of tries, I wish we got another demo which had unlimited tries… >_>

  • darkbartz

Overflowing hype! Think I’ll do a re-playthrough of all the localized games next week as celebration for the upcoming release of this one. Probably not going to be the only one to do this.

Also, it’s 2027 and Phoenix is still using that phone, it’s probably museum-worthy by now. Wonder if he will ever change it, probably not, now that he has to pay both Apollo and Athena.

  • Ric Vazquez

layed the demo today, was way better than I hoped it would be, it may be the best one in the series, can’t wait for the complete game to see for myself.

  • MrJechgo

    Now I’m curious on who’s voicing Apollo…

    • Aaron K Stone

      Orion Acaba

    • British_Otaku

Orion Acaba. He also has video game roles in SMT4 (Jonathan), Tales of Xillia (Ivar) and Fire Emblem Awakening (Kellam and Gerome).

For whatever reason, no one knows for sure who voiced Apollo in AA4, but a lot of people including myself think it is Johnny Yong Bosch.

  • Fidelis

I hated Sam Riegel in UMVC3..
but here he sounds exactly like the voice I’ve always imagined in my head.

Probably because I’ve always imagined him as calm and snarky while in UMVC3 he sounded pathetic and whimpy. Here he’s got an air of confidence. I guess that’s all it took.

  • Göran Isacson

Hype. INTENSIFYING. Oh man I’m downloading that demo fast as hell and getting me some attourney action tomorrow!

  • Thiefofhearts

Okay, so Wendee Lee voiced Haruhi in the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, in one episode, her character does a Phoenix Wright impression. I’d say now with her in a AA game, it has come full circle. Can’t wait for the youtube play throughs.
