Corpse Party: Blood Drive Delayed To 2014

By Ishaan . October 4, 2013 . 1:32pm

The next game in the Corpse Party series, Corpse Party: Blood Drive, has been delayed to 2014, 5pb announced today.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive will continue the series’ story from chapter 8 of Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. The eighth chapter of that game, too, was named “Blood Drive”. The game will bring an end to the Heavenly Host school story.

You can find a brief tease for the game’s story here.

Hardly surprising. We haven’t heard a thing about it for a while after all, but I’m glad they didn’t forget it. I really want this game, and I hope it’ll be just as good as the first game.

And if it is, well… *insert usual comment about how much we want XSEED to localized it once it’s out*.

    • SprintsMcGee

I actually asked them about localizing the spin-off game Corpse Party – The Anthology – Hysteric Birthday 2U a few days ago. This is what they said: “Afraid we have no plans to bring 2U over, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no more partying planned for the future…”

This makes me think that they are already planning on bring this one over =D

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

I never doubted that XSEED would localize this (even though there’s no confirmation and there won’t be for months and months to come). XSEED would never start localizing a series and leave it hanging if the project would be within their reach (as opposed to something monolithic like LoH)~.

        It’s just a matter of when~.

      • mixedfish

There’s really no reason to localise that unless Corpse Party becomes a big cash cow, which it won’t. It’s completely fan-service with literally no connection or continuation of the main story except for one short chapter. And even then all that one chapter does is reiterate the ending of ‘Book of Shadows’.

  • FlobotingIt

Fudge. I wanted more details. I wanted at least a little bit of a screenshot. Just a small one. I mean, that new art is okay, but… I want gameplay!

  • SwiftWind

That picture is all types of suggestive…

    • MoriyaMug

That’s Corpse Party for you. The sexual suggestiveness of some parts (including panty shots of a little girl) really is off-putting, but the atmosphere/story/writing/music is to die for.

      • Juan Andrés Valencia

I find it weird that the sexual innuendos make you feel more uncomfortable than the non-stop insanely graphic gory violence towards children or teenagers that goes on in the game.

        • Kumiko Akimoto

          Thank you

        • mockturtle

        • MoriyaMug

I’m a horror buff. I appreciate a story that imposes no artificial limits on who can get hurt/killed (a bit like life, really). I just find the sexualization of little children to be disgusting. I’m funny that way.

          • Juan Andrés Valencia

Honestly, I feel the same way. However this game is so focused on the gore and dread that it makes the occasional panty shot really ignorable. You can’t say that in the case of Highschool Of The Dead (The OVA is practically soft-porn) or even A Serbian Film.

Also, lets not forget that Japan’s age of consent in some states can be as low as 13. It’s fucked up for us but it’s normal there so it all comes down to cultural differences.

          • MoriyaMug

I was referring more to the sexualization of Sachiko, who is, if memory serves, only eight. The rest, I can deal with.

      • DyLaN

Eh I don’t find the panty shots particularly offensive, just distracting.

I find the super detailed narration to be more horrifying.

  • Smooosher than ever

    Tentacleraep why

Anyway, really looking forward to Blood Drive, loved the first one and bought Book of Shadows not long ago. Gotta start playing it soon!

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

This is Siliconera so they legally have to post a suggestive picture or article each week.

As for the games I loved the first one and I’ve heard Book Of Shadows is better. I think they even added more binaural sounds to the game and that’s always a good thing.

      • MoriyaMug

Book of Shadows has some technical improvements (text skipping, friendlier save system, etc.), but virtually everything that makes it an actual GAME is gone. It’s 99% visual novel. It’s also not an actual sequel… it’s a bunch of alternate-universe stories, spun off from one of the Wrong Ends in the first game. The main draw is more character interaction, including a lot more of the characters who didn’t get a great deal of screen time in the original (Morishige, Ms. Yui, Mayu, etc.).

      • Barrylocke89

Yeah, I actually heard from many people that Book of Shadows is actually worse for wear thanks to the lack of gameplay elements (they were light in the original but I feel they added something to make the game feel more engaging). I like some Visual Novels, but Corpse Party’s Visual Novelish story wrapped around sprites progressing through a creepy environment really worked well for it, and BoS’s move to almost all VN was disappointing.

On the other hand, it does have the characters interacting more and you learn more about side characters, so that’s nice, but I’d personally rather future games in the series play a little more like how Repeated Fear did. Corpse Party 2 on the PC plays more in that style even if the graphics are more modern(ish) so that’s a plus in my book.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

So many questions left unanswered, so many tragedies left to unfold~.

  • ChiffonCake

Hmm. I hope that Xseed localizes this one as well… I really enjoyed the first Corpse Party (as well as what I played of Book of Shadows; didn’t finish it yet).

The art looks considerably better, too, which is a bonus.

  • Otoya

I hope this time there is a physical release…. Cause Asia PSN dont sell that game.

  • Jesse

Can’t say I like that picture they’re using, but it’s good to see news about it.

  • Brimfyre

“What time is it? It’s time for lunch. What time is it? It’s time for lunch. It’s Lunch time!” is what those little red bubble guppies are thinking.

  • Brandonmkii

    Dat picture.

  • Sardorim

Was kinda hoping for a Naomi pic.

  • Otaku-Sama

… I played the first two games on the PSP. Why did they have to finish the saga in the PS Vita? I won’t be able to play it… ¨orz
If its possible I want a PSP version of the game … If God’s Eater, Tokiuden and others are released for both. Why can´t they do the same?

    • Otaku-Sama

A PC collection pack with the entire saga would be great too, but that would be asking for a miracle, but if they could localize Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient instead, I would be more than satisfied.

      • MoriyaMug

You never know… the CP series has done pretty well for XSEED. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see both games.

    • TheExile285

Whose they? Those games you listed are from different companies.

It’s not like you can’t get a Vita for cheap now *cough**VitaTV*cough*

      • Otaku-Sama

I never said they were from the same company. I just said that they could follow their example and do the same kind of thing to please the fans. That´s all.
… and about the price of the Vita. With our currency the price is more or less $3500.

        • Pdugna

$3500….typo? there is no way in the world that a Vita costs that much anywhere…

          • Otaku-Sama

I wish it was a Typo. Search for the price in Argentina,

    • Kefkiroth

Vita needs exclusives in order to sell, it’s simple. Not everything needs to be a multiplat.

  • Cursingcomet

Ah, I love those bloody brutal scenes from the previous iterations, hope this game have more of it.

  • WingsOfEternity

Is that official art? Looks like it came out of a doujin

    • Jesse

      Yep, it’s official art.

    • KuroNathan

All corpse party art looks like it came out of a h-doujin for some reason

    • Barrylocke89

But the question is if it’s official art from 5pb, or TeamGrisGris/Grindhouse. From what I understand, 5pb has mostly been handling the Heavenly Host/Tenshin story beyond the remake of Blood Covered.

Team GrisGris did Blood Covered on the PC, and since Blood Covered Repeated Fear (aka the PSP one) was an update of that, 5pb and Team GrisGris worked together on that.

But BoS, Sachiko Birthday, and this game, Blood Drive, is pretty much all 5pb with maybe a bit of input from GrisGris.

EDIT: Ok, so I just did a little research and it seems that I’m wrong. Team GrisGris has had involvement in every Corpse Party game, including Book of Shadows and Sachiko’s Birthday. But with Book of Shadows at least, the story was created from the 5pb side, and I assume Team GrisGris worked together with 5pb to help develop it into a game. I’m not sure where the story came from with Sachiko Birthday or Blood Drive :/

Corpse Party 2:Dead Patient is definitely handled exclusively by Grindhouse (Grisgris) right now though.

      • s07195

Hopefully the narrative quality is better than in BoS….

    • Prinnydoom

      Yes………lets hope its a doujin……………………………….scuse me a sec.

  • Detrimont

in the end, everyone will die

  • Go2hell66

She looks like she’s enjoying it :/

    • XiaomuArisu

      No….Just no….

  • Jan Daryll Palanca

Bring the sprites back!!! Most preferable from the 8-16 bit era! Sadly I didn’t ‘enjoy’ playing bos as much as the first game. Bos was more of a visual novel than an actual game ( more reading than playing.. ) still kudos for 5bp/mages for continuing and reconstructing the series I bloody loved it!

  • Kumiko Akimoto

With what happened in dead patient i can only imagine the horror that’s about to come.I’m sure asami fucked up so much

  • artemisthemp

Hopefully won’t take Xseed long to bring Blood Drive to the West

  • DyLaN

………..The new art reminds me of SnU and/or sweet poll. *proceed to use brain bleach*

How the status of Dead Patient?

    • Jesse

Well, Chapter 1 is out…and we’ve not heard about the rest, yet.

  • Aristides

As long as it comes to the west I don’t really care when it’s released XP

  • DigitalFowl

Probably gonna be a lot of downvotes for this but I’m done with the Heavenly Host. Engaging as the story may be, I have no desire to play the ‘game’ anymore. The drastic departure from ‘Adventure Game with a decent number of puzzles and exploration’ to ‘Visual Novel with half assed puzzles and adventuring’ is not something I cared for. Of course the japanese fans ate it up so we’re stuck with that VN format. But since Blood Drive is ANOTHER god damned VN, I’m out. I don’t think the VN format is totally shit, but I loved the top down exploration heavy adventure game format of the first title. The school felt much more intimidating and terrifying and ‘alive’ in that isometric format and in VN picture format… I’m still uncomfortable but not as intimidated by its size, confusion and decrepitness.

Now if XSEED licenses Dead Hospital… You can bet your ass that will be a day one buy.

  • dahuuuundge

I only saw the anime OVA, what am I missing with all these Corpse Party games?

    • A lot, since the OVA cut out a bunch of stuff to fit it into 4 episodes.

      • ShadowDivz

I’ve been menaing to get corpse party off the PSN.

I’ve heard many good things, but is it trulyamazing?

I heard many good things about Fate/Stay Night and i gotta tell you, im not enjoying as much as i thought i would. In fact, i might just give up playing.

But i also heard many good things about Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright and THAT blew me a freaking way.
I love the setting, plot and characters. It’s just so awesome And…moving on.

And i like dark stories, so it being a horror actually peaks my itnerest. So CP. Your personal opinion.(dont just give me a “yeah its awesome”)

        • While it starts out SUPER slow, the story is very well done (In the first game, at least). I’ve never seen a complaint about the story, even from people who don’t like anime-styled things.

The gameplay, on the other hand, isn’t the best. If you’ve ever played an RPGmaker game like Ib, The Witch’s House, Ao Oni, or others like that, then you know how Corpse Party plays.

Sometimes the game makes it easy to get lost, and you occasionally have to remember vague things that you read in rooms you were in 10 minutes ago.

If you can ignore the gameplay, the story is well worth it (Once it gets going, of course).

          • ShadowDivz

Yeah i played Ao Oni. Damn that thing was scary but amazing.

So its similar to that, huh? How slow a start are we talking? You ever played Fate Stay Night? Is it THAT slow?

          • I’ve never played that, so I can’t say. But the first 30 minutes is all setup, and then when the game starts it’s still sort of slow for the first few chapters.

          • ShadowDivz

Hmm….. Still not too sure if i want it.
