Inafune And Hayashi Talk YAIBA, Action Games, Mighty No. 9 Collaboration

By Ishaan . October 11, 2013 . 11:05am

Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi and Comcept’s Keiji Inafune discuss YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z in a new developer diary video that Tecmo Koei shared this morning.

During the video, Hayashi briefly goes hands-on with the stylized ninja game, following which the two discuss action games in general.

Pure action games haven’t been as popular of late, the two feel, putting creators like Inafune and Hayashi in a tough spot. This is in part due to a lack of elements that surprise players, Hayashi theorizes. YAIBA’s surprise comes in part from the fact that it’s a combination of a ninja game and a zombie game.

Finally, Inafune briefly mentions Mighty No. 9, and jokes that he’d like to do a collaboration between YAIBA and Mighty No. 9 in the future; although it soon goes from sounding like a joke to a little more serious. “We’ll make YAIBA awesome on its own, and then we’ll do some fun stuff with the collaboration,” he says.

Beck and Call costumes? Or maybe some other cameo? I’m down.

  • RichyGaming

    Who can hate Inafune? :)

    • Chaos_Knight

      Capcom.

      • RichyGaming

Nah they’re best friends, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

        • Shady Shariest

Yeah…10 k to Mighty Numbero Nein’s Kickstarter made it pretty clear :)

          • InfectedAI

Was that confirmed to be from Capcom?

          • Shady Shariest

I didn’t really follow the Kickstarter that much after it was announced, so what i know is bits and pieces…

So going with my opinion and knowledge of the thing: I see no reason why it wouldn’t be from Capcom.

          • InfectedAI

It’s silly to assume it’s from Capcom with no proof. Plenty of people
donated a lot and plenty of Kickstarters get big donations. Could just
be the same group of rich gamers backing everything they like.

          • Shady Shariest

I am a weird person… And i know that backing thing… If you watch Humble Bundle’s they have sometimes the most ridiculous names on the highest bids :3¨

Never heard of that site, but instantly realized what kind of site it was.

            :3 It’s Friday, can i not joke around? :D

I thought CAPCOM had Megaman series. Oh wait, they don’t make Megaman anymore.

          • neocatzon

Didn’t know this article (or site) exist. Instead Capcom It’s like 10k from him and even that’s a scretch.

      • David García Abril

And people sick of his “Japanese games are dead. I’m here to save them” routine.

  • DragKudo

Ninja guy ( i don’t know his name) boss battle?

  • Göran Isacson

Have to admit, this IS looking better and better. The color and the look of the games cel-shading coming together helps it stand out, I think, even though I don’t know much about what it’s like to really PLAY the game. It’s got a neat look and spirit, at least, and you could do worse than that.
