Tales of Xillia 2 Gets A Brand New English Trailer

By Ishaan . October 14, 2013 . 9:00am

Namco Bandai have shared a new English trailer for Tales of Xillia 2, slated for release on the PlayStation 3 in 2014. The video shows Elle, one of the game’s main protagonists, on the run with Ludger, the game’s hero, from a mysterious organization, along with a variety of other scenes.

While Tales of Xillia 2 will be available in the west next year, it won’t be the only Tales games making its way over. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is scheduled for a 2014 release in the west as well.

Here we go with voice over complaints.

    • Rogerrmark

I’m surprised people are not saying they will boycot this yet, lol. Like Atelier Ayesha shitstorm.

      • MrTyrant

Maybe because fans were accustomed to have dual audio in atelier games where Tales was always dubbed.

        • Rogerrmark

Pretty much.Considering the things cut on the first entries(90% of Eternia’s skits, nodub in Symphonia/Abyss,no dub in half of Legendia’s skits) western Tales fans are living happy days nowadays.

          • Barrylocke89

Not half of Legendia’s skits. Half of Legendia. The entire 2nd half had no voices.

Compared to that, Namco’s been on a hotstreak with Tales fans in the west. Only the whiniest are complaining these days.

          • Rogerrmark

    • Maumac77

I’m only dissapointed with how the pronounced ludger’s name. However that doesn’t kill my hype for this game. Far from it.

      • DragKudo

That is the correct way to pronounce though.

        • Maumac77

I know but I still don’t really like it, probably because I’ve been pronouncing it differently in my head. However like I said, I’ll be fine with hearing it well before the game releases and still abundantly excited for it

  • SupaPhly

hmm, if they’re already putting an english trailer this early, I expect the release date to be really close to the symphonia chronicles release

    • KingGunblader

As much as I’d like that to be true, I don’t think so. Symphonia is scheduled for “early 2014” – probably January to April, depending on Lightning Returns and FFXHD. I would expect Xillia 2 to come out around the same time as Xillia 1 (July or August).

      • Sweet hell, I hope not. Voice recoding for Xill2 has already been completed. Same thing happened with the first game, recording was done, almost literally, a year before the game was actually released.

        • Barrylocke89

I think Namco can be excused with releasing Xillia 2 in July or August. Getting a sequel a year after the first game is already pretty damn fast, and Symphonia Chronicles is coming out in the mean time.

    • Dark Zerato

There is thing called budget and people don’t want to spend that much money in a short time.

  • MrJechgo

    Hmrph…. I need to finish ToX1 ASAP, I had to put it on hold due to other stuff ^^;

  • Sentsuizan_93

Very few words in the English language can describe how hyped I am for this. I bloody cannot wait! ^_^

  • LustEnvy

So hyped. I just finished Xillia last week. MOAR. Looks darker. I love darker.

    • Arcana Wiz

Xillia 2 is considered the darkest one in the tales of series.

      • GH56734

Blood (well, it’s red only in FMVs, and black/omitted everywhere else), Head shots, people being burned alive, and many of the possible endings are incredibly depressing. More dark Alvin back-story. Much more brutal deaths.
You play as two villains from Xillia (that were intended to be in the first game, but schedule decided otherwise)

It’s one of the best entries in the series too

        • ALfromHELLSING

Xillia is my favorite PS3 game now. Absolutely lovin’ every minute of it. So glad that Bamco brought it here and bringing sequel as well.

More Alvin the merrier. Alvin rocks!

        • Anthony Birken

And now I get to play it alllllll over again in english~ huehuehue it must be my birthday~

        • Alex Shadov

Wow… I haven’t finish Xillia, I’m at the end of it… but this trailer and most of what you wrote here literally kick me in the balls… I’m not mad or anything, is my fault all over… but wow… just… wow… yeah… endings huh? Man… now I have a headache… I hate different kinds of endings… and… well… I’ve being far from the series since Phantasia (best game in the series IMO.) but… huh… being a villain isn’t exactly something that bad…. you could be an anti-hero, which is good enough.
          So, anyway, I’m hype… or something… man, I need a beer.

      • No Items Ever

It gets very dark. Especially with the potential ending you choose pending on your choices. I ended up beating it around last week and I’m more so than ever pleased it’s gonna be coming here.

However I personally think Rebirth is the darkest in the entire franchise simply due to how much messed up stuff happens during the game. That and focuses on a lot more adult issues like the idea of racism (way more than Symphonia btw) and and in all honesty just the complex issues of humanity itself.

    • Linhua

…wow, you… really made me start to miss Pascal again .-.

  • I love the necessary “epic Latin choir” music. Cool trailer — can’t wait to play

  • Michael Connell

Can’t wait for 2014; so many great looking JRPGs coming out and Xillia 2 is at the top of my to get list.

  • Monterossa

Xillia 1 disappointed me badly… with its poor contrast and brightness. and from this trailer I still see the issue going on in Xillia 2.

    • LustEnvy

My biggest disappointment with Xillia was in it’s generic field maps. Almost all the roads from town to town looked the same. This is where I find restricted camera angles to be a blessing. It makes locations vary more, because the designers put more work into what you see on screen. When you have such a full view, things tend to get lazy. Xillia’s maps where pretty mediocre and samey.

You can go back to Vesperia, Graces F, and you’d see much more varied map designs and locations. Nothing looked the same. Xillia kind of let me down in immersing me into it’s world like the other Tales before it.

Don’t get me started on the Seahavens. Those WERE all the same. Just… bad map design decisions.

      • MrTyrant

I think Xillia 2 have improvements overall so you should really try this new entry.

        • LustEnvy

Oh, I still loved Xillia overall. I was just really put off by the map design, that’s all.

        • LightZero

Its an improvement in everything except what he/she is complaining about it. Xillia 2 recycle a lot of things and the areas being among them

          • LustEnvy

It’s like… “hmm, which high road had this particular thing… gee, let me warp to each one until I finally nail the right one”. Or which Seahaven has the fell arms guy? Let me go to each one until I find him.

These are things that didn’t happen back in the days of prerendered maps, and more recent non-controllable camera views (i.e. FFVII, Eternal Sonata, Vesperia, Graces, etc). Every area had it’s own memorable look. You KNEW which town or dungeon was which.

Xillia… not so much. I’m really starting to hate going fully 3D… it’s made programmers lazier when it comes to certain things.

      • Rogerrmark

I really wish they made a Dragon Quest VIII-like in future entries.

Xillia’s map felt totally huge to me,although I do agree it felt repetitive and bland.

The developer team is probably trying to reformulate the traditional world map formula(with Graces, Hearts and both Xillia as examples)but are not quite “there” yet.

    • Bec66

Because visual quality decides how good a game is not story or characters or hell not even gameplay but visual quality!

      • 65daysofstatic

Though I don’t disagree with your comment, I think what “Monterossa” was referring to was the inconsistent visual quality removed him/her from the immersion that s/he would have experienced otherwise, due to the story, characters and gameplay. Contrast that with, say, Tales of Vesperia, which (in my opinion) offered a more consistent visual experience, vis-a-vis the cell shaded locales, character and enemy designs.

        • Bec66

Guess I never really cared enough to notice.

  • Spirit Macardi

Kind of wondering who will end up being Ludger’s speaking voice for new game +. I could honestly see Vic Mignogna playing him, and it’d be rather cool if that were the case since he’s about the only LA voice actor to have never been in a Tales game yet x3

    • Wappuli

Sorry but there isn’t much to look forward to, He’s pretty much silent even in new game+.

  • Somber

  • John Diamond

    yeaaah! french dub es #1

  • Kornelious

Dang. There making sure we know about this one. I CANT WAIT!

  • Tales of Xillia gave me a (playable) cast that I loved. Rowen ftw! I can’t wait for this one.

Love Baba and the whole Tales team for bringing me a series I’ve just grown to love (,my first Tales was Graces F).

    • that was my first as well xD greatest series ever!!

    • Alex Shadov

      Phantasia… Cless and Mint.

  • Soma Schicksal

Can’t wait for this! So excited! ^.^

  • Learii

I be waiting for this <3

  • Hau To

I’m sorry, but I am the only one who noticed that there were spoilers in this article?

    • Arcana Wiz

you’re complaining about spoilers in a trailer?

      • Hau To

No. I’m saying there is a spoiler in the article. I played the game already, but I’m not going to point it out.

        • Arcana Wiz

well, as someone that didn’t play the game i can guarante to you that this article didn´t spoil anything for me.

        • Ferrick

no one would’ve noticed it if you hadn’t pointed it out, just fyi

        • Anime10121

Those of us who havent played the game wont recognize a spoiler unless someone explicitly tells us what it is. So, it really isn’t a spoiler for us :P

    • Wappuli

There really isn’t any, but I played it too and know what you mean.
But you know, in these kinds of situations it doesn’t really help that someone who know the story comes and points it out.

    • all i see in the article is what i saw in the trailer. but i also havent played the game, so i guess i wouldnt know.

  • Scipio

So how many hours long is Xillia?

    • Xillia 1: 40-50+ hours.
Xillia 2: 60-100+(very depending on what you do) hours.

    • DragKudo

Xillia 1: 150 Hours if you Level up everyone, Find all fell beasts, All mysterious orbs, Every skit and side mission.
60 Hours Just Playing through the story.

      • School Idol Addict

Lol, you double the normal number at least.
It’s more like 30 hours if you only play through the story and 75 hours if you try to do everything.

  • Arcana Wiz

    wanna this soooo bad >.<
2014 will be a great year to rpg gamers.

  • HerosLight

Does Ludger talk in this trailer? If so, I couldn’t tell.

I already feel bad for the little girl after seeing the scene at 1:55.

    • MrTyrant

Ludger doesn’t talk at all. I think he just scream attacks in battle but he doesn’t talk in cutscenes.

      • Wappuli

Yup, he only has random grunts during cutscenes and yells out arte names during battle.
But on new game+ you can buy “Ludger voice” from grade shop and after that he will also voice all choises that you make too, though it isn’t really much.

        • AuraGuyChris

…Wait. He doesn’t talk at all in the main game while the rest of the cast does? What is this, Persona?

          • MrTyrant

Baba was trying to do that actually.

You can turn his voice on in the new game+ but he will only talk when you give a response. This new Xillia make the player to participe in dialogues by picking responses for Ludger in most skit or events.

          • Lynx

He’s actually pretty easy to tell how he’s feeling due to his expressions and what not.

  • mojack411

I need to finish Xillia 1 first, but this thing called Pokemon is keeping me from doing so now.

  • Maumac77

Very excited for this game, however the pronounciation of ludger’s name will take getting used to. “Looger” doesn’t sit well with my childish side considering how close to “Booger” it is in my head :p

    • Jesse

      I think it’s supposed to sound like “Lood-ger”, though it’s VERY difficult to hear the “D” sound in the trailer. ^^;

      • Maumac77

Maybe so. Regardless I’ll be fine with the name by the time it comes out :p

  • Charles

Now that’s a ****in epic trailer.

  • هاكو ممممممممم

doesnt the hero looks alot like squall from final fantasy viii ?

  • looks so much more epic!!!

  • kamiyan89

knowing the ending for this game already i don’t have the desire to buy it, loved the first one, my first tales of but… really hated that ending and they didnt fix it in the second so meh.

    • Ferrick

it’s not the destination, but the journey

      • kamiyan89

why can we have a good journey and a good destination? :( or am I the only one who likes cheesy endings?

        • Ferrick

maybe it’s because life is being generous ? ._. (there’s a “can’t” missing around there)

joking aside: there’s nothing wrong with trying new ways, and besides there’s a “cheesy” ending if you want if (both survives), though it’s kinda hard to obtain, and it’s non canon, though hilarious

  • I can’t wait!!!! O_O

  • Seasqwaa

hmm, wow. Well, I do like the look of this trailer. So, this is a direct sequel, right? I feel like I want to get into this game, but the first one turned me off (I haven’t played it, just the trailers, news, etc.) I did play Vesperia though, and was very very unhappy with it overall.
So…. how does Xillia compare? And I would need to play the first, correct?

    • AkuLord3

just seeing trailer and some news and you didn’t want to play it…that’s stupid. Xillia isn’t perfect and Tales Team did get lazy on many things in it (which are fixed in Xiilia 2) but gameplay is still much more fun and characters are enjoyable. If you can get Xillia cheap, then grab it. Xillia 2 is of course a sequel but i remember something on that that its sorta doesn’t take place in the same world (i’m not too sure, i go into each game blank on any news so i don’t spoiler myself).

      • Seasqwaa

I’d say it was more Vesperia that turned my away. I exaggerated the problems I had with it, and it turned to illogical hate.
It probably would be a good idea to give myself second opinions of the series as a whole though, because it seems like they’re starting to get a lot of love in localizations now. Which I am all for!
Can’t judge a whole series on one game, after all.

Thanks for responding. Opinions are always something I like to take heed of.

    • Wappuli

      Yes, it’s a direct sequel.
In my opinion the first Xillia is far from best, and compared to Vesperia is pretty bad, but story is still pretty good and I think that is reason enough to play it. Xillia 2 fixed alot of things from the first one and it is really good in overall.
But then again, you didn’t like Vesperia, so your opinions on both Xillias might differ alot from mine.

      • Seasqwaa

I’m willing to give it a try though. I played Vesperia loving it for awhile. Then near the end, I just started looking at everything and disliking it. I think the melodrama (which I usually don’t mind) just hit me too hard near the end there. Not what I’d call a BAD game though.
I’m just more partial to darker stories with death and suffering. I do enjoy touching stories too though.

I guess it’s really just better to try myself though, right?
Thanks for the response by the way! Really appreciate it.
I’ll look a bit deeper into it. And sort my funds. hohoho

  • CirnoLakes

    I need this game already.

    • Anime10121

      I needed this game yesterday.

  • Bablioteca

    most real tales game ever?

  • Michael Connell

Does the save data from the first game transfer over? Are there more story sidequests in Xillia 2 than in the first game? Does the Wonder Chef come back (I miss the guy)?

  • AkiraScare

this looks pretty badass… plz say its also coming to the states …

    • Zero_Destiny

It’s coming out in North America as well. :)

    • Anime10121

The trailer’s in English…of COURSE its coming to the states :P

      • AkiraScare

lol i just saw the europe flag on top so i figured that it would come out first in Europe and they way later (1 month) it will come out in the states (0_0)

  • 栗場 江理久

minemineminemineminegimmegimmegimme-wait I haven’t beaten the first one yet… JUST GIVE ME THIS ALREADY BEFORE I BURN AN KITTEN ORPHANAGE DOWN >:l

  • Yan Zhao

Just beat Xillia this week, now to wait for this :3

  • Crimson_Cloud

Those little interactions that characters say and comment on every freaking map is what I really adored. Commenting on the sea breeze, saying stuff about heights while climbing cliffs, those are the stuff I really appreciate in a good RPG with loveable cast. Hopefully more of those are present in second game. ^^

  • Clairis Cannon

    Omg…the hype….i just-i cant

  • XiaomuArisu

    Ludger you ridicoulus badass!!!!
