Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land Looks A Lot Nicer Than Its Predecessor

By Ishaan . October 18, 2013 . 12:00pm

Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land is slated for release in February 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS, and Marvelous AQL have shared a batch of screenshots for the game, giving one a glimpse at the ranch and a couple of the game’s characters.

Elize and Veronica.

Your ranch, which looks a whole lot nicer than the previous game.

It looks like Marvelous are giving Connect to a New Land a more interesting look than their previous Harvest Moon title, A New Beginning. Not only do the character portraits look more stylish, the visuals for the ranch look much more detailed, too.

You can read about some of the new features in Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land in our previous report on the game. It will cost 5,040 yen when released.

    wow, this does look nice

  • Chim_era

I have to agree it looks nice ….. I just started with the previous and now I really want this one :’(

  • Samurai_Heart

I hope the frame rates waay better… New Beginning was =/

    • ronin4life

      This.

  • ronin4life

It looks… the same to me.

    ? _.

Hey, downvote all you want.. the character designs use the same color palate, water brush look with the same chubby face style they did in NB. And the engine looks the same too.

Was there something wrong with that or my comment? I fail to see it.

    • Guest

there isn’t anything wrong with your comment, people are just ignorant

    • Arrei

Well, from what I can tell, the textures and models are cleaner and smoother, the UI and conversation windows look fancier, and the lighting effects are better (by which I mean it actually HAS lighting effects now).

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Just off the top of my head:

Textures have more detail to them, especially ground textures.

Character portraits have shadows behind them, which is a nice stylish touch and helps tham stand out.

Lighting, as mentioned below, actually seems to exist now.

Dialogue boxes look a lot more stylish than before.

I shall be awaiting the day I can play it!!!

  • Dream

Harvest Moon looks like it has made an improvement. I only played A New Beginning for a couple hours, never played it again. I feel like Harvest Moon has a boring theme to it, nothing really exciting. Connect to a New Land does look better, and if it has internet access where you can connect to other players towns, that’d be pretty cool.

  • jugss

I like the graphics hate the art style.

  • Euphoria

I’m hoping they don’t use the same overly bright/untextured and undetailed surfaces that they used in A New Beginning. :P

  • Luis Enrique

I personally hope they get rid of town customization, it wasn’t necessary at all, and as for ranch customization, it’s nice for some buildings but I rather have the old dirt field back, but it seems that won’t be happening.

    • Hraesvelgr

I prefer the town customization, but it wasn’t done that well. Most of the customization was just “put five such-and-such around town” or “someone wants this oddly specific type of house to move into!” It’d be better if I could properly customize the town how I wanted, rather than how the game wanted me to.

      • katamari damacy

It would have been better with Dark Cloud’s georama system too. Instead of just customizing the town ONCE to accommodate your gift run schedule, you fit houses near each other based on some criteria (I want to live next to the bakery but want to be 5 houses away from this guy)

I wanted to get a new MH but i guess ill just wait for this one (^_^)

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

??? MH? What does Monster Hunter had to do with Harvest Moon here? O_o”

      • Chris Evan Jonance Ingeniero

        Time sink :3

  • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

wow I might actually start playing HM again… I stop playing the DS series HM since I hate the very chibi-like character potraits. Although this one is still somehow chibi it is not that bad and looks better than the nds series.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Natsume, you know what i want right?^_^

    • Guest

I’d rather see Xseed aka Marvelous USA bring it over

  • SerendipityX

Its actually reminds me of Tree of Tranquility/Animal Parade only the character portraits got a little more pizzazz

I’d like to see a remake of the original Harvest Moon that isn’t limited to two
ingame years, has the full dirt field and other additional features from more recent Harvest Moon games

The Marriage Rival System is one feature that would be nice not to make a return

    • Hraesvelgr

I like the rival system, if only because it’s weird to see others around your age stay single all of their lives while you’re going around courting multiple men/women around town.

      • $36598391

The Rival System wasn’t in the original SNES version, so I hope it stays that way if there is ever a remake of it

    • katamari damacy

I like the rival system simply because that means everybody has someone else for them to marry so the town grows and progresses without you. HM64 did it and once you got married and had children, the town grew with you and your generational rivals got married and had children too. HM1 was charming, but having the town stay static for more than 2 years is kind of depressing. Everyone else you don’t marry ends up growing old and alone.

64 version was awesome; I saved Popuri from a fate worse than death more than once in that game ^ ^

  • Rogerrmark

I’ll never get tired of this franchise. Looking forward to become a farmer again.

  • Aristides

I have a feeling this game is going to be among the next XSEED localizations.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Natsume hold the rights to Harvest Moon in the west, so no.

  • Rue

I don’t know why, but characters, kind of look like they are from a victorian era because of those outfits. But that’s just me. I think this look’s pretty and I like the outfits for elize and veronica. The artstyle and coloring looks pretty. I can’t wait to see new screenshots of the rest of the bachelorette’s and bachelors(hehe).

  • Akira Takeshima

I want it! Any idea how long it will take to get from Japan to US?

    • thefinestpiece

It’ll probably take a year or so. Sometime earlier.

  • Akira Takeshima

Woah! I think the mayor is that woman! That’s a first.

    • thefinestpiece

Ina was the first female mayor.

  • Priley

I miss a lot of the more classic HM characters: Karen, Maria, Popuri, Cliff, Gray, Kai. :(

I would love to see another Harvest Moon that featured them, or even a game that featured the BTN or AWL casts.

Maybe I’m just wearing nostalgia glasses, though.

  • caqeepa21

Recently I was extremely low on cash and debts were eating me from all sides! That was UNTIL I decided to make money on the internet! I went to surveymoneymaker dot net, and started filling in surveys for cash, and surely I’ve been far more able to pay my bills!! I’m so glad, I did this! – 6eWb

  • thefinestpiece

It’s gonna take awhile for Natsume to get the game localize..
