In Kingdom Hearts III, Sora Will Have Two New Abilities

By Sato . October 22, 2013 . 10:15pm

We recently got a look at a new Kingdom Hearts III trailer during Disney’s D23 Expo event, that showed off action scenes that incorporate Disney rides, like a spinning pirate ship and Big Magic Mountain. This week’s issue of Famitsu shares some new details on the game.

In Kingdom Hearts III, Sora’s new skills will all have two systems: one that involves a transforming Keyblade, and the other will involve attraction park rides, as seen in the latest trailer.

For the Keyblade transforming feature, not only does it change the appearance of the weapon, but it also changes the style of how it’s used.

Meanwhile, the attraction park ride features are considered an evolved version of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance’s Freeflow Action, which will allow you to attack nearby enemies with various skills that correspond to the attraction ride. While active, Sora will automatically perform the attacks on his own. These actions will be a big part of Kingdom Hearts III.

Additionally, the magazine reports that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix will more polished compared to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, and Square Enix are currently putting in their best efforts in that regard.

Kingdom Hearts III is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

  • Rohan Viajar

I’m just gonna wait for “Kingdom Hearts: Complete Mix” (or something of that nature)

    • IDSD

      That would be amazing tbh

      • Rohan Viajar

yeah especially because I’m trying to save money (*sigh* stupid college expenses)

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

and then it will be announced as…. handheld game

  • Leon_Tekashi

I’m glad Nomura and co. know what they must do with 2.5 remix. I’m also more interested in those new systems in KH3.

  • Ferrick

so sora’s skill is basically terra armor tier now ?

  • Kilim

    >Sora will automatically perform the acts on his own

    pls

  • Warboss Aohd

am i the only one dat doesn’t like da idea of usin’ attraction rides.

    • Bobby Jennings

I don’t like the idea either. It sounds like a lazy idea of Free flow. I loved 3DS’s free flowing.

      • s07195

They’d need justification for being able to do it in the real world though, since 3D took place in dreams.

        • Kornelious

I think the rides are just a taste of what’s to come. Since we don’t know what Disney worlds we’re getting yet, this is one of the only things that Disney owns but isn’t exactly licensed to a particular film and such.

        • Bobby Jennings

Just allow him to do it. I mean he was already doing these things in cinematics in KH2…

      • EX+

In the trailer at E3 Sora was doing DDD Flowmotion. I’m sure they’ll implement it.

    • RazeXI

Does this mean we’re going to see the merry-go-round as an attack?…

    • MrRobbyM

It sounds a little weird to me. But I’ll reserve judgement until I see it in action(not concept videos).

    • Altumn

I actually like the IDEA of having rides involved. I think the series needs more disney personally though, and this is a great way to incorporate disney. The problem I’m concerned with is what the idea will end up like.

    • Ronldbx6

The use of attraction rides is weird to me because I don’t know any of them from Disney World.

    • Sergio Briceño

I never pondered about this. I just figured everybody loved the idea, or at least, everybody that has ever visited Disneyland or watched some of the movies that inspired the attractions and liked them.

Now here’s somewhat a bit of mystery. Sora as described in this article that he gains the skill to change his Keyblade into other weapons like the guns for his “Two Shoot Blaster.”

So far, the other known Keyblade wielder who can do this was Terra, who can transform his own Keyblade into the almighty Ultima Cannon. Whereas his two friends, Ventus and Aqua never displayed such ability.

    • Kaihedgie

Actually they have. Both Ventus and Aqua’s Keyblades transform into those rider forms they use to race and travel between worlds.

    • Ferrick

well to be fair, aqua is mostly stuck in that beach, and ventus is currently floating around in lalaland, while terra’s armor have time to work out lol

      • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Well the only thing Lingering Will can do is sitting on that empty land screaming ‘XEHANORT’.

Though he somewhat become 100% faster and stronger than BBS version with ridiculous new abilities like Keyblade whip and projectiles

        • Draparde

The things rage can do to a person…erm..armor?…

          • MogCakes

            Rage + Time + stuck-on-a-piece-of-dirt = boredom and experimentation.

        • Ferrick

          well, we may never know
maybe he takes a rage break and start lifting ?

          • Nice Boat Quatro

It must work considering by KHII Final Mix Terra grew a cape.

          • Ferrick

            he lifts and knits!

    • http://momentsreprieve.com/index/ Aushria

Actually, Terra can do more than that, since his Lingering Will in KH2 FM can turn his keyblade into a whip, bow, cannon, his keyblade glider, and a freaking fist.

    • RegReach

Aqua could transform her keybalde into a giant energy bow
they only let us do it in certain situations though
same as they took aways terrs drill/ whip/land mines etc and only gave us his cannon. They nerfed them in bbs becasue they would be too powerful

    • Göran Isacson

      OBJECTION!

Even if it is a VERY obscure one that relies on vacuuming the net for info, but ANYHOW- the secret boss in Birth By sleep Final Mix, Xehanort from the days of his youth, also has the ability to shape his Keyblade into various forms. He turns it into a shield, a set of boots for kicking, and a scissor-like claw. I presume that when you become skilled enough as a Keyblade master, you will attain the ability to transform our keyblade into various forms.

      • Steven Higgins

He didn’t use a Keyblade though, he used energy blades like Xemnas.

        • Göran Isacson

Au contraire, he did in fact use a Keyblade.

Perhaps “Xehanort from the days of his youth” was not the best term, because… well, Kingdom Hearts and it’s MASSIVE time travel fuckery. WHat I am referring to was the secret boss in BBS Final Mix that is ARMOR-clad Xehanort from when he was the most powerful, or perhaps “at the top of his game”: THAT secret boss uses Xehanorts Keyblade and morphs it into a variety of different forms.

          • Steven Higgins

Ah I see, I thought you meant the black-coat clad Young Xehanort, the teenager.
That wasn’t actually Xehanort, just his abandoned armor , like Terra’s Lingering Will. That’s why it didn’t register.

          • Göran Isacson

Ah, I thought that since those battles take place in the Mirage Arena they were “holograms” if you will, representing Xehanort and Eraqus in the days of their youth. My bad! Still, haha, you can tell KH has one strange story when we have to get into a several posts-long discussion of WHICH version of the same character it is that we’re referring to :)

  • Kaihedgie

“one that involves a transforming Keyblade,” Bout friggin time

  • SMT

So basically, KH got the “Bleach” treatment and the keyblades go Bankai?

    • Shady Shariest

We’ll need to wait for more information…

    • Draparde

i would hope they mean similar to how Terra changed the shape of his blade to a cannon (and the trio changed them into ships) among other things.

as opposed to a single powered up transformation.

      • Steven Higgins

Well it seems like the Keyblade trasformation system works like the Command drives from BbS, meaning that they time out and the Keyblade goes back to Normal. I also read part of an interview that the transformation will be different of each keychain.

    • SMT

Whoa, why so many dislikes? I don’t like Bleach either, but if the keyblades transform with crazy power-ups that give unique gameplay elements, like the swords in Bleach did, that just sounds awesome…

      • hawk222

        “FRIENDSHIP-KAI!! Tensa Kingdom Key-getsu.”

  • Rogerrmark

I wish they wouldn’t fill the game with QTEs like II. Doesnt seem to be the case.

    • Brian Douglas Macleod

You literally have no idea what you’re talking about. They haven’t even made the game yet.

  • Notquitesure?

I want to see Sora use a Ghost drive thing mixed with an more aggressive style. Or be similar to master form.

  • LBattle0819

I just love how Keyblade powers are based on their personality. The amusement part attacks just prove how much of a kid Sora is and I love it!!

  • anthony apduhan

Transforming Keyblade? So will there be a lightsaber version?

  • greeeed

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix will be more polished compared to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix?

I guess the fact that KH1.5 remix sold a lot of copy world wide help to add more funds to KH2.5 remix ^________^

  • Ryumoau

I wish Square would tell us why they aren’t allowed to put the kingdom hearts series on psn.

    • Bobby Jennings

      Something to do with Disney.

      • Steven Higgins

Which makes no sense because Disney puts their other games on it.

        • Bobby Jennings

          Yep.

  • Rodrigo Branco

Just as I feared, those “summon” rides will do most of the work :/
Can’t say that idea pleases me that much

  • colorblindnightmare

The whole “Auto action thing” is not that great of an idea in my oppinion. How ever, transforming keyblades is a great.

  • MrRobbyM

2.5 more polished than 1.5? That’s good to hear. 1.5 was pretty good for an HD remaster but there were some things that just took you out of it and honestly, I was expecting better from Square. I’m really excited now.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Took you out of it? I haven’t played it myself, would you mind telling me a few examples? Curious

      • MrRobbyM

Mostly just the changing between character models in cutscenes. In some cutscenes the models will change back and forth like 3 or 4 times, it’s just really annoying.

Another complaint, farming Serenity Power is a lot more annoying now that the triangle button calls Goofy and Donald to attack when it’s also used for certain abilities like Ragnarok. You really can’t get 100 hits on the Pink Agaricus without breaking the game and get Donald and Goofy stuck somewhere so they won’t attack it. If you didn’t know, if Goofy or Donald attack the thing while you’re wailing on it, the hit counter goes down for every time they hit it, decreasing the chances or obtaining a Serenity Power. 100 hits isn’t a requirement to obtain it but I think it’s a trophy? I’m not sure.

        • MrSirFeatherFang

I see. Well thanks for sharing. Hopefully it doesn’t bother me that much, although I feel like it would lol

          • MrRobbyM

They’re sort-of minor things depending on how you look at it but it doesn’t take away much fun from the game. It’s Kingdom Hearts after all!

  • Syed Sameer Rahman

Transforming Kyeblade, huh? I loved the designs for every new Keyblade you’d get in previous games. Looking forward to more info on this :)

  • EX+

Sora’s new abilities sound very interesting. His skill level is sounding like the level of Terra’s abilities.

  • Göran Isacson

Keyshaping into different weapons? Awesome, I am totally one hundred percet up for that. The rides replacing the Dream Drop Distance system and mostly being automated on the other hand? I was not a fan of the lack of activity in KH2′s fighting system, and if this isn’t simply a mistranslation or we’re misinterpreting the information and this IS indicating that we’ll just summon the rides and then sit back and don’t do that much over and over again… well. I don’t know if I’ll be a fan of that.

    • Steven Higgins

Well, at least you have the choice not to summon them.
And you must have some control when using them because the trailer showed what are almost certainly commands.

  • The_Superior_Spider-Mon

It would be interesting if whether or not Disneyland (the theme park) will be one of the new worlds for Kingdom Hearts III

  • James Li

I really miss the DRIVE Forms…
