Devil Survivor 2: Break Record Delayed To 2014

By Ishaan . October 31, 2013 . 9:30am

Hey, remember Devil Survivor 2: Break Record? Atlus announced the enhanced Nintendo 3DS version of Devil Survivor 2 earlier this year, and were shooting for a July release in Japan. The game was then delayed from July to fall.

Fall is right around the corner, however, and word on Break Record has been quiet… and for good reason. The game has been delayed once again.

Devil Survivor 2: Break Record has been delayed to 2014, Atlus announced today, citing quality issues as the reason for the delay. The publisher have not yet announced just when in 2014 they’re aiming to release the game.

As previously reported, Devil Survivor 2: Break Record will feature a brand new story that will take place after the events of the original game. This new story is said to constitute the length of a full-blown RPG by itself, and you’ll be able to access it right away if you’d like.

  • Quality issues? Uhoh. I’m hoping that means they’ll nail all of it prior to release. Considering it was supposed to be out last summer and they cited quality issues then…

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

UGH the more its delayed in JPN the later and later ATLUS usa will have to put this out, we may not even get it until 2015 at this rate, creying :(

    • Thatguy

Europe will get it in 2016 :D

Is it bad, that i am crying right now?

      • InfectedAI

At least you guys finally got the DS version.

    • Not necessarily! Maybe localization will begin early?

  • Dsvkb

Fair enough. There’s enough that came out this year as it is.

  • British_Otaku

And people thought some of us Europeans were silly for getting DS2, when Break Record was “around the corner”… >_> I may be done with my whole current DS/3DS RPG library before this even have an English release (American or European) lined up. >_>

That said, I hope this still comes around worldwide and all.

    • My DS version is sealed, patiently waiting, until I hear one way or another about the localization. :)

  • gk2012

“Quality issues” = Sonic’s not in it.

    • gk2012

11 downvotes? People need to lighten up. ;)

It’s merely a joke about the Sega + Atlus merge.

  • Ty Austin

Take your time, I can respect delaying it if it’s not meeting up to their standards.

  • LM009

I don’t mind delays but I’m more worried that we have heard nothing of localization.

    • Strain42

Except for a couple of recent Atlus titles that broke this trend, it’s pretty rare for Atlus USA to talk about localization before the game is even out in Japan. I’m certain you have nothing to worry about.

      • LM009

        Let’s hope you’re right :)

        • Ducki

Well if you actually THOUGHT about it, it wouldn’t make sense that they don’t localize this one.
They brought over the first one and it’s 3DS remake, brought over the original DS2. Not to mention that 2 was more popular.
It’s a dumb to think that they’re not localizing this game for the US. And it would be a very bad move for them to not localize this game.
EU I’m not completely sure of though, they probably will but just not as fast. Like they always do.

          • LM009

To us it wouldn’t make sense but there’s a lot about releases that don’t make sense. Some games are brought over and others aren’t(like fate ccc, LoH series, ys series, valkyria chronicles 3, i can go on and on). Like why does game x have no sequel even though it sold so well? why does game series y continue to get releases? Yes obviously I think Desu1 did sell pretty well so Desu2 BR has a pretty good shot but other than that you really can’t make any claims here.

          • Ducki

I can see you point there and yes I can’t really make any “claims”, but all those games weren’t published or made by ATLUS. And don’t doubt Atlus on not bringing it over.
If you knew ATLUS they wouldn’t do something like that. They never have.
The only games to never have received a localization are the first one (like SMT 1 and 2) SMT IF…, and NINE.
I’m not sure about the one that was released for the original xbox got localized.
But in other words. Atlus USA knows their fans and knows their fan base. They’re not stupid enough to not localize a game for no reason. They have yet to never localize anything recently that was part of a series. They brought over P4G, DSO, Soul hackers, and SMT IV.
Unless there are major complications with it (Like P4U for EU) then it might take some time but we’ll most likely get it eventually.
Sega is letting Atlus and Atlus USA continue their thing.
But from RUMORS, the only things you should worry about are the titles that have nothing to do with the SMT series.
But this isn’t an argument on my part (and I don’t think on your’s either) but more that I’m just trying to show you, Atlus isn’t Sega, they got bought by them but Sega is letting them continue on with their thing. So you don’t have to worry about anything SMT related (and I hope those rumors are just that, rumors and aren’t true, about everything else that’s not SMT) not being localized.
I think Atlus knows what to do and that they’re not stupid enough to pull off a stupid move on not localizing Break Record.

  • I wonder why they feel the need to delay it. Unless Im missing something both the original ran in a similar if not same engine. So if they have a working engine ported to 3DS I’d think they’d have an easier rather than harder time.
Not to mention they already delayed the game for the same reason.

I think there’s other reasons for development hell…

    • InfectedAI

This doesn’t qualify as development hell by a long shot. It’s not even a year since it has been announced. There are plenty of reasons. It could be a new engine. Many people complained that DS:O was a very bare bones port. They could be shooting for taking more advantage of the system’s hardware. Like the 3D effect. Also it features an entirely new campaign that takes place after the original game. So it’s not just a port, there’s lots of new content to worry about.

    • The only thing I can think of is that they want to get the added stuff just right. Maybe it was not measuring up and they have to keep going back to the drawing board. But I agree; it’s pretty weird.

    • DyLaN

Personally, I think the biggest reason is wht Chris Yuen posted above.

  • Strain42

They’re probably just working out some kinks. No big deal. It’ll get here when it gets here. Yeah, waiting kinda sucks, but I’m sure they’re just working hard to make it a worthwhile port. The more they work on this and elevate it from the original game the better, right?

    • AuraGuyChris

Some kinks really shouldn’t cause a delay like this.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

        Bug Kinks.

        Namely Sega

  • AuraGuyChris

Oh, hey! Suddenly having the DS European version doesn’t sound that bad to have now!

  • Azzrem

I’m okay if its Atlus..take your time :)

    (ughhhhhhhhhhh dem!!)

  • Chris Yuen

It’s kind of understandable, what’s with the recent bankruptcy issue and acquisition and all.

    I’ll wait.

Most of us have already waited 5 years for Persona 5…and others still waiting for a Valkyria Chronicles 3 localized version…

    • InfectedAI

VC3 people are dreaming. Maybe a Vita version. At least I hear there’s a group working on a fan translation patch.

    • Göran Isacson

That’s a pretty reasonable deduction. I wonder if that means that maybe they’ve had to lay off people from the development team and that is what’s causing the delays, trying to do the same work but with less personnel. Or maybe some developers or such have to spend their time trying to run the company instead of developing the games, and so on and so forth.

Well, either that or there are bugs in the game which I THINK I heard was the case with the previous game? That there were some really bad bugs they had to stamp out, so they’re being extra cautious about that sorta stuff now?

  • Ethan_Twain

Huh – that’s sort of unlike Atlus. Normally they’re all about the tight development schedules and budgets. Delaying a simple DS to 3DS expanded rerelease not once but twice is unlike them. I wonder what’s up?

    • Chris Yuen

Their parent company Index Holdings became bankrupt, Atlus and other assets were brought over by SEGA SAMMY Holdings, so yea, there’s a lot behind-the-scenes stuff that went down. Wasn’t too surprised that some game titles might be delayed.

  • Vitor Duarte

Devil Survivor 2: Episode Aegis is getting delayed so they can replace some grinding with more cut scenes.

  • Slayven19

But it will never break the record of duke nukem forever being delayed so this doesn’t bother me.

  • Gaminglord3

How is the Shin Megami Tensei games? Just asking so I can experience how the games are with the upcoming crossover with Waifu- I mean Fire Emblem. Lol. So I can have a little knowledge of the series and be ready for the crossover.

  • mockturtle

I’m just glad it’s not dead. I was just thinking the other day how strange it was that we’ve heard nothing about it for months.

  • komiko12

Improved battlefield sprites should be done. As well as 3D effects to character portraits during conversations.

More things should be done so that it would like an upgrade instead of just an extended version.

  • Espoir

Aaww boo!! Well at least they mentioned about it..

  • Kamakuma

Damn… Seriously they need to put the flag on the mobile version of this site. I thought it was gonna be a localized from the sound of it. T.T

  • Jose Coronado

I’m just glad they aren’t rushing the release of the game. They can take as much time as they want as long as it is to improve the game, i love Devil Survivor 2 on my DS great game i also have both version of Devil Survivor 1 and well i love the 3ds version mostly cuz of the voice acting and the extended ending.
I’ll wait for the game but i’m a impatient person but for Atlus games i’ll accept waiting they’re games are always great love all of them
